Product Overview

Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2K is a two-component (2K) flexible cementitious waterproofing coating manufactured by Pidilite Industries, combining a liquid acrylic polymer emulsion component (Component A) with a specially formulated cementitious powder blend component (Component B). When the two components are mixed at site in the specified ratio, they produce a slurry coating that is applied by brush or roller in two to three coats to form a seamless, flexible, and watertight membrane adhered directly to the concrete or masonry substrate. Pidifin 2K occupies a performance tier above standard single-component cementitious waterproofing coatings (such as Dr. Fixit Krystalline or brush-applied cement slurries) and below fully flexible synthetic polymer membranes. The two-component format allows a higher polymer content in the mix than a single-component powder product mixed only with water, resulting in a more flexible cured membrane with greater elongation at break (typically 80 to 100 percent versus 20 to 40 percent for standard cementitious coatings) — sufficient to bridge dormant hairline cracks up to 0.3 mm in the concrete substrate without membrane failure. The cementitious base chemistry provides excellent adhesion to concrete and masonry substrates without adhesion primers, good compatibility with a cement screed or tile adhesive overcoat for trafficable surfaces, and alkaline environment resistance that makes the coating suitable for direct contact with potable water (once cured and leached) and for use as the waterproofing lining of drinking water tanks and cisterns. Pidifin 2K is rated for resistance to hydrostatic water pressure up to 3 to 4 bar positive pressure, making it suitable for basement inner-face waterproofing under moderate ground water pressure, swimming pool waterproofing (inner-face before tiling or mosaic), and water tank inner lining. Space Arc Engineering supplies Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2K for swimming pool contractors, water tank construction teams, basement waterproofing specialists, and large-scale building waterproofing projects throughout Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.

Applications

  • Underground and overhead water tank inner lining — potable and non-potable water storage
  • Swimming pool waterproofing — inner face coating before mosaic or vitrified tile finish
  • Basement inner-face waterproofing — negative-side hydrostatic pressure resistance
  • Retaining wall inner face coating — prevents moisture migration through retained earth pressure
  • Wet room and spa waterproofing — bathroom walls and floors before tile finish
  • Irrigation canal and water feature lining — secondary containment and seepage prevention

Key Advantages

  • Two-component — higher polymer content than single-component powders, greater flexibility
  • Crack bridging — 80 to 100 percent elongation at break accommodates dormant hairline cracks
  • Potable water safe — cementitious chemistry approved for contact with drinking water once cured
  • Hydrostatic pressure resistance — up to 3 to 4 bar positive pressure resistance
  • Cementitious bond — excellent adhesion to concrete and masonry without primers
  • Overcoatable — tile adhesive or screed can be applied directly over cured Pidifin 2K

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the complete application system for Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2K for waterproofing the interior of a domestic underground water sump, and what surface preparation is required before application?

A domestic underground water sump (RCC-constructed water storage cistern) is one of the most critical waterproofing applications because any failure of the waterproofing lining allows ground water infiltration into the stored potable water supply and structural damage from chloride ingress. The complete application system for Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2K in an underground sump involves the following sequential stages. Stage 1 — Surface preparation. The interior surfaces of the sump (floor slab, four walls, and the kicker/fillet joints between floor and walls) must be clean, sound, and free of all release agents, curing compounds, laitance, loose concrete, oil, and contamination. Concrete laitance (the thin layer of weak cement and fine aggregate that forms at the top of cast concrete after vibration) must be removed by wire brushing, grit blasting, or light grinding to expose the aggregate matrix. Honeycombed areas must be broken out to sound concrete and repaired with a low-shrinkage repair mortar (Dr. Fixit Repairite mixed with OPC cement) at least 24 hours before Pidifin 2K application. All construction joints, floor-wall kicker joints, and pipe penetrations must be chased, cleaned, and treated with Dr. Fixit Speed Watergrip if active seepage is present, then sealed with Dr. Fixit Fibertape embedded in the first Pidifin 2K coat. Stage 2 — Mix Pidifin 2K. Pour Component A (liquid) into a clean mixing container. Add Component B (powder) gradually while mixing with an electric paddle mixer at low speed to avoid aeration. Mix for 3 to 5 minutes until a smooth, lump-free slurry is obtained. Allow a 2-minute rest (slake) period, then briefly re-mix. Use within 30 minutes of mixing in normal temperature conditions (23 degrees C) — use within 20 minutes in summer (35 to 40 degrees C). Stage 3 — First coat application. Pre-wet the concrete substrate by misting with water until dark (saturated surface dry — SSD condition). Apply the first coat of Pidifin 2K slurry using a stiff-bristle masonry brush, working the slurry firmly into the concrete surface. Embed Dr. Fixit Fibertape into the wet first coat at all floor-wall junctions, construction joints, and pipe penetrations while the coat is still wet. Coverage for first coat: approximately 0.8 to 1.0 kg per square metre of mixed material. Stage 4 — Cure and second coat. Allow the first coat to cure for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours (overnight in Indian conditions) until firm and non-tacky. Lightly mist the first coat with water before applying the second coat to maintain SSD condition. Apply the second coat perpendicular to the first coat direction using a brush or roller. Coverage for second coat: 0.8 to 1.0 kg per square metre. Stage 5 — Third coat (recommended for water tanks). For underground sumps and water tanks, a third coat is strongly recommended, applied 6 to 8 hours after the second coat using the same procedure. Total Pidifin 2K consumption for a three-coat system: 2.4 to 3.0 kg per square metre of mixed material. Stage 6 — Curing. Keep the Pidifin 2K lining moist for 7 days by misting with water twice daily. After 7 days, fill the sump with water and allow 24 hours water-tightness testing before permanent use. Any seepage points observed during testing must be drained, dried, and re-treated with Speed Watergrip and additional Pidifin 2K coats. After 28-day full cure, the sump is ready for potable water storage.
