What is it?

A surface-mounted floor expansion joint system built from pre-drilled 6063 aluminium angles and an interchangeable nitrile rubber insert, covering structural gaps up to 60 mm at 35 mm height.

Where is it used?

Hospitals, malls, institutional buildings, entrances, outdoor walkways and warehouse zones carrying foot traffic and light pneumatic-tyred vehicles.

Why use it?

Fixed, specifiable dimensions, a hygienic plain-insert option for healthcare floors, and an insert that replaces without disturbing the anchored frame.

How is it applied?

Anchor the pre-drilled angles along both joint edges, cut the nitrile insert to length and press it into the channel until it sits flush with the finished floor.

About D-Seal GatewaySeal

GatewaySeal is D-Seal’s GFT-series solution for the everyday floor expansion joint: a structural gap of up to 60 mm running through a hospital corridor, mall concourse or warehouse service lane that must carry trolleys and foot traffic without becoming a trip hazard. Two pre-drilled aluminium angles, extruded in alloy 6063 to ASTM B221-02, form a channel that receives an interchangeable nitrile rubber insert. Space Arc Engineering supplies the system in 3 m sections and installs it through applicator teams across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

Its appeal to consultants is predictability. Every section arrives at a fixed 35 mm height with anchor holes factory-drilled, so the joint detail on the drawing is what actually turns up on site. Flat and angle versions cover floor-to-floor runs and floor-to-wall junctions from one family, and inserts come in black, grey or RAL shades to sit quietly within the flooring scheme. A plain-faced insert variant suits hospitals, where ribbed profiles trap dirt and slow down housekeeping. D-Seal manufactures the range under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certified systems, which eases institutional and PSU approval processes.

The technical insight

A floor expansion joint fails in one of two ways: the concrete arris spalls under wheel impact, or the fill material debonds as the slabs move. GatewaySeal separates the two problems. The anchored aluminium angles armour each slab edge, absorbing the repeated point loads from trolley and pneumatic-tyre wheels that would chip exposed concrete or tear a field-applied sealant. Movement is handed entirely to the nitrile insert, which flexes in compression and extension between the rigid frames instead of relying on adhesion to the substrate. Because the insert is press-fit rather than bonded, it behaves as a serviceable wearing part: when it hardens or wears, you lift it out and press a new length into the same frame, with no breaking out, priming or curing time.

Where it is used

  • Expansion joints in hospital and healthcare corridors, using the plain hygienic insert variant
  • Indoor commercial floors in malls, offices and institutional buildings
  • Outdoor walkways, building entrances and podium circulation routes
  • Warehouse and service areas trafficked by light trucks on pneumatic tyres
  • Floor-to-wall junctions using the angle version with flexible skirting configurations
  • Corridor and lobby joints in public and government buildings
  • Refurbishment of worn floor joints where a replaceable insert profile is preferred over re-sealing

Key advantages

  • Fixed 60 mm gap capacity at 35 mm height gives consultants an unambiguous, specifiable detail
  • Nitrile insert replaces by hand without removing the anchored aluminium frame
  • Plain-faced insert variant for hospitals and hygiene-critical floors
  • Pre-drilled angles speed up installation and keep anchor spacing consistent
  • Suitable indoors and outdoors on light-traffic floors
  • Flat and angle versions cover floor-to-floor and floor-to-wall conditions from one system
  • Inserts in black, grey or custom RAL shades to match the flooring scheme
  • Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 certified quality systems

Limitations & considerations

  • Not rated for heavy vehicular loads or solid-tyred forklifts; specify D-Seal DriveFlex or LoadMaster for those duties
  • Covers gaps only up to 60 mm; wider structural joints need the StarGuard or GalaxyJoint class (50-125 mm)
  • The 35 mm profile height must be detailed into the screed or recess in advance to achieve a flush finish
  • The nitrile insert is a wearing part and needs periodic inspection and replacement on busy corridors
  • Published data does not state a plus-minus movement rating; confirm the joint’s movement demand with Space Arc before specifying on seismic or high-movement structures
  • Not a below-grade waterproofing joint; pair with the D-Seal Below-Grade System where a water head exists

Selection & best practice

Treat frame alignment as the whole job. Cut back and clean both slab edges so the angles bear evenly, then set the pre-drilled aluminium angles parallel along the joint at finished floor level. Drill anchor positions through the factory holes and fix progressively, checking line and level as you go: a frame that wanders in height will telegraph through every wheel that crosses it. Only once both angles are secured should the nitrile insert be cut to length and pressed into the channel until fully seated and flush. On angle-version installations, finish the skirting leg neatly against the wall. In service, clean the insert along with the surrounding floor, inspect anchor fixings periodically, and renew worn inserts by lifting the old length out and pressing in a new one; no adhesives or hot works are involved.

Industry use cases

Healthcare

Hospital corridors and OPD blocks where stretcher and trolley wheels cross joints all day; the plain insert keeps the profile easy to disinfect.

Retail and institutional

Mall concourses, college blocks and lobbies where the joint must disappear visually; grey or RAL inserts blend into tile and stone floors.

Warehousing and logistics

Service lanes and light storage areas running pallet trucks and light pneumatic-tyred vehicles across slab joints.

Outdoor public realm

Entrance aprons, walkways and podium decks where the joint faces weather as well as footfall, in both flat and angle configurations.

Commercial offices

Atrium edges and corridor-to-core junctions where the angle version ties the floor joint into a neat skirting detail at the wall.

Frequently asked questions

What gap width can GatewaySeal handle?
It bridges structural gaps up to 60 mm at a fixed profile height of 35 mm. For wider joints, move up to D-Seal StarGuard or GalaxyJoint, which cover 50-125 mm.
Can forklifts run over it?
Only light trucks on pneumatic tyres. Solid-tyred forklifts and heavy vehicles concentrate load beyond its rating; specify D-Seal DriveFlex or LoadMaster for those areas.
How is a worn insert replaced?
Lift the old nitrile length out of the channel and press a new one in until seated. The anchored aluminium frame stays in place, so there is no breaking out or downtime for curing.
Is it suitable for hospital floors?
Yes. A plain-faced insert variant is made specifically for healthcare environments, avoiding the ribbed surface that traps dirt and complicates cleaning regimes.
What lengths and colours are supplied?
The system comes in 3 m sections with inserts in black or grey as standard, and RAL shades available on request to match the flooring.
Does Space Arc install GatewaySeal or only supply it?
Both. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised distributor and applicator, supplying material Pan-India and executing installation through trained teams in Delhi NCR and beyond.

How we position D-Seal GatewaySeal

GatewaySeal sits at the light-duty end of the D-Seal floor range. Where carpark decks or 50-65 mm gaps under wheel loads up to 90 kN are involved, step up to D-Seal DriveFlex; warehouses needing plated, solid-tyre protection are LoadMaster territory. Gaps beyond 60 mm move you into StarGuard or GalaxyJoint (50-125 mm), and fire- or acoustic-rated recessed joints call for JointMaster. DuraEdge Seal is the closest sibling where a simpler seal profile up to 60 mm will do, while basements and foundations pair with the D-Seal Below-Grade System. Where the joint is a narrow saw-cut rather than a structural gap, Space Arc also supplies Fosroc and Sika polyurethane and polysulphide joint sealants.
