D-Seal TrafficFlex Seal
A flush-fitting solid EPDM compression seal that keeps trafficked floor expansion joints watertight under forklifts, cars and heavy footfall — with no raised profile to trip over or rattle across.
What is it?
A pre-formed solid EPDM rubber compression seal for floor-to-floor horizontal expansion joints, manufactured in India by D-Seal (Dhawan Associates) and sized to your surveyed joint gap.
Where is it used?
Car park decks, warehouse and factory floors, loading bays, plaza decks and podiums, ramps and driveways — any horizontal joint that carries vehicles or heavy pedestrian traffic.
Why use it?
It seats flush with the finished floor, stays watertight along the full joint run, and flexes with slab movement instead of cracking or debonding the way rigid fillers and wet-applied sealants often do under wheels.
How is it applied?
The profile is compressed and inserted into a clean, primed joint gap using a lubricant adhesive, seated flush under uniform compression, then inspected before the area is reopened to traffic.
About D-Seal TrafficFlex Seal
Trafficked floor joints are where most expansion joint failures show up first. A basement car park or warehouse joint takes thousands of wheel passes a day, and a wet-applied sealant or rigid filler in that position tends to rut, tear at the bond line or pull away from the arris within a couple of seasons — after which water finds the slab edge and the levels below. D-Seal TrafficFlex Seal approaches the problem differently: it is a factory-formed solid EPDM profile that is compressed into the gap, so the seal’s own elastic recovery keeps it pressed tight against both joint faces while the running surface stays flush with the floor finish.
D-Seal is the expansion joint brand of Dhawan Associates, an Indian manufacturer certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, with profiles produced to order against the actual joint gap rather than forced from a limited stock range. Space Arc Engineering supplies TrafficFlex Seal across Delhi NCR and pan-India as an authorised distributor and applicator, which matters with compression seals — correct profile selection and installation compression decide whether the joint stays watertight for years or leaks in the first monsoon.
The technical insight
A compression seal works on a simple principle: the profile is manufactured wider than the joint gap, so once inserted it is permanently in compression and its elastic recovery loads both joint faces. When the slabs contract in winter and the gap opens, the seal expands back and maintains face contact; when the gap closes in summer, it compresses further without extruding above floor level. That is why gap survey and profile sizing come before everything else. The compound choice does the rest of the work. EPDM has a fully saturated polymer backbone, so UV, ozone and heat have very little to attack — the manufacturer publishes a compound service range of roughly −60 °C to +125 °C with a 20–50 year design life, comfortably covering an exposed Indian podium deck in June. Because the profile is solid rather than foam-cored, repeated wheel loading squeezes it and lets it recover instead of crushing it permanently. The lubricant adhesive used at installation eases insertion and then bonds the seal to the primed joint faces, backing up the mechanical compression with adhesion.
Where it is used
- Multi-level and basement car park deck expansion joints
- Warehouse and factory floors carrying forklift and pallet-truck traffic
- Loading bays and dock-leveller approach slabs
- Plaza decks and landscaped podiums over occupied basements
- Ramp and driveway expansion joints in exposed conditions
- Malls and commercial floors with heavy trolley and footfall movement
- Interior floor joints where a flush, dust-tight finish is required
Key advantages
- Seats flush with the finished floor — no raised metal edges to trip pedestrians or jolt forklifts
- Watertight along the full joint run, protecting slab edges and the levels below
- Solid EPDM section recovers from repeated wheel loading instead of rutting like wet-applied sealants
- Flexes with thermal and structural movement while staying in contact with both joint faces
- EPDM compound resists UV, ozone and weathering across a wide service temperature range
- Damaged lengths can be cut out and replaced locally without redoing the whole joint
- Made in India to order by an ISO 9001/14001/45001-certified plant, so profiles match your actual gap and lead times stay short
Limitations & considerations
- Needs sound, reasonably parallel joint arrises — spalled or ragged edges must be repaired with a suitable repair mortar before installation
- Each profile suits a specific gap range; joints must be surveyed along their full length, and gaps outside the profile’s compression range need a different size or system
- It is a seal, not a load-transfer device — joints with very heavy point loads or hard-wheeled traffic at the arris are better served by an armoured mechanical system such as D-Seal DriveFlex
- Standard black EPDM is not intended for continuous immersion or for zones with regular oil, fuel or solvent spillage
- Long-term watertightness depends on installation quality — priming, correct compression and unstretched insertion are non-negotiable, which is why we recommend approved applicators
Selection & best practice
Start with a gap survey, not a catalogue. Measure the joint width at several points along the run and note the ambient temperature at the time, because the profile must stay within its working compression at both the widest winter gap and the narrowest summer gap. Repair spalled arrises and let repair mortars cure fully. On installation day, clean the joint faces of laitance, dust and any old sealant, and prime as directed. Apply the lubricant adhesive to the joint faces, then compress and insert the seal — pushing it in, never stretching it along the run, since a stretched seal thins, loses compression and pulls back at the ends. Use the longest continuous lengths practical and keep field splices to a minimum. Seat the profile flush with the finished floor under uniform compression, check the line for dips or proud sections, and hold traffic off until the adhesive has set. In service, sweep and rinse periodically so grit does not grind into the trafficked face, and inspect high-traffic stretches — a worn section can simply be cut out and a new length installed.

Industry use cases
Commercial Real Estate
Basement and multi-level car parks in office and residential towers, where joints must take daily car traffic yet stay watertight over electrical rooms and parking below.
Warehousing & Logistics
Distribution centres and 3PL sheds with constant forklift and pallet-truck movement across floor joints, where a flush seal avoids wheel damage and product vibration.
Retail & Hospitality
Mall concourses, podium drop-offs and plaza decks where trolleys, delivery vehicles and heavy footfall cross joints that must remain safe, neat and leak-free.
Industrial Plants
Factory floors and covered yards with mixed vehicle traffic, where joint failure interrupts production and a cut-and-replace repairable seal keeps downtime short.
Infrastructure & Transport
Ramps, driveways and circulation decks in metro depots, terminals and institutional campuses exposed to weather and continuous vehicle movement.

How we position D-Seal TrafficFlex Seal
TrafficFlex Seal is the right choice when the joint is horizontal, trafficked, and needs a flush watertight seal. Within the same D-Seal family, SealMaster-H covers general horizontal floor joints without heavy traffic, SealMaster-HV handles wall-to-wall joints in both orientations, DriveFlex steps in where car park joints need armoured aluminium/steel load plates (50–65 mm gaps, loads up to 90 kN), and SeismoGuard addresses large seismic movement. For narrow sawn or isolation joints that only need a wet-applied sealant, we supply Fosroc Nitoseal and Sika polyurethane sealant ranges, and for podium decks we pair the joint system with a compatible trafficable waterproofing membrane. Not sure which system your joint schedule calls for? Send us the drawings — we will map each joint type to the right product.
