D-Seal ParkGuard
Heavy-duty surface-mounted expansion joint cover for parking structures — 6063-T6 aluminium side frames with a replaceable, oil-resistant nitrile insert, engineered for pneumatic-tyre loads up to 90 kN across 50–65 mm joint gaps.
What is it?
A surface-mounted mechanical expansion joint cover system: twin extruded 6063-T6 aluminium side strips anchored to each slab edge, bridged by a replaceable nitrile rubber insert.
Where is it used?
Interior floor joints in basement and multi-level car parks, podium decks, ramps and warehouse floors carrying medium-heavy vehicular traffic.
Why use it?
Protects joint arrises from wheel impact, accommodates structural movement, resists oil and fuel drips, and lets you renew the wearing insert without disturbing the frames.
How is it applied?
Frames are fixed flush with the finished floor through pre-drilled holes into sound concrete nosings; the nitrile insert is then zipped into the frames in continuous lengths.
About D-Seal ParkGuard
Every parking structure moves. Thermal cycling, traffic vibration and long-term creep all work the structural joints, and in a car park those same joints take direct wheel impact hundreds of times a day. Left open or covered with an improvised plate, the joint edges spall, tyres thump across the gap, and debris and drippings collect below. D-Seal ParkGuard is a purpose-built answer: a surface-mounted joint cover that carries the traffic, absorbs the movement and keeps the joint line neat and serviceable for the life of the deck.
ParkGuard is manufactured in India by Dhawan Associates under the D-Seal brand, produced in ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certified facilities — which matters when a project needs replacement inserts or extra lengths at short notice rather than a months-long import cycle. Space Arc Engineering supplies ParkGuard across Delhi NCR and Pan-India as an authorised distributor and applicator, supporting joint measurement, profile selection and installation on live parking projects.
The technical insight
The system works by separating the two jobs a trafficked joint must do. Load transfer is handled by the extruded aluminium side strips: 6063-T6 temper (per ASTM B221) gives a hard, corrosion-resistant section that seats on the concrete nosing and spreads each wheel pass into the slab instead of the joint edge. Movement is handled by the nitrile insert sitting between the frames, which flexes in compression and shear as the 50–65 mm gap opens and closes without transmitting stress to the fixings. Nitrile is the deliberate choice over EPDM here — car parks see engine oil, fuel and grease drippings, and nitrile keeps its integrity where general-purpose rubbers swell and soften. Because the insert simply engages into the frames, the sacrificial wearing element is renewable: a worn or gouged section is cut out and replaced from a 15 m roll while the anchored frames stay in service.
Where it is used
- Basement and multi-level car park floor joints
- Commercial parking decks in malls, offices and IT parks
- Podium slabs and entry/exit ramps in high-rise developments
- Warehouse and logistics floors with light-truck movement
- Hospital and airport parking structures with continuous traffic
- Floor-to-wall joint terminations at cores and perimeter walls
- Industrial floors where joints cross forklift-free vehicle routes
- Refurbishment of spalled, failed or plate-covered parking joints
Key advantages
- Rated for pneumatic-tyre vehicular loads up to 90 kN — covers cars, vans and light trucks
- Replaceable nitrile insert renews the wearing surface without removing the anchored frames
- Nitrile rubber resists engine oil, fuel and grease drippings common on parking decks
- 6063-T6 aluminium frames resist corrosion in humid, chloride-laden basement environments
- Flush, low-profile section gives a quiet, comfortable drive-over with no tyre shock
- Pre-drilled 3 m side strips speed up setting-out and anchoring on site
- Floor-to-floor and floor-to-wall configurations from one system family
- Indian manufacture means short lead times for extra lengths and spare inserts
Limitations & considerations
- Designed for joint gaps of 50–65 mm; wider structural gaps need a different D-Seal profile selected against actual movement calculations
- A trafficked cover, not a waterproofing barrier — exposed or leak-critical decks need a membrane or drainage gutter detail below the joint
- Load rating assumes pneumatic tyres; solid-wheel forklifts, steel-wheeled trolleys and point loads must be referred to the manufacturer
- Needs sound, level concrete nosings — spalled or weak joint edges must be repaired with a suitable repair mortar before fixing
- Aluminium surfaces should be cleaned with neutral detergent only; acidic or strongly alkaline cleaners will etch and dull the frames
Selection & best practice
Start by surveying the joint: confirm the gap sits within the 50–65 mm working range along its full run and check the condition of both arrises. Repair any spalled or hollow edges with a polymer-modified repair mortar and let it gain strength before fixing. Set the side strips so the finished profile sits flush with the floor level — a proud frame takes tyre impact, a recessed one traps water and grit — and anchor through the pre-drilled holes with fixings appropriate to the slab. Run frames in continuous 3 m lengths with tight butt joints, and mitre neatly at direction changes and floor-to-wall junctions. Install the nitrile insert only after the frames are fully fixed, working it into both frames in the longest practical lengths from the 15 m roll to minimise field joints. In service, clean with neutral detergent and water, keep acidic cleaners away, and inspect the insert during routine maintenance — worn sections can be cut out and replaced individually.

Industry use cases
Commercial Real Estate
Mall and office-tower basement parking sees the harshest joint duty in the building — constant turning traffic over the same lines. ParkGuard keeps arrises intact and lets facility teams swap inserts during night hours without closing bays for frame replacement.
Residential High-Rise
Podium parking decks over habitable or retail space combine structural movement joints with resident traffic. The flush profile removes the thump-thump complaint at speed bumps’ worst cousin — an open joint — while the floor-to-wall variant closes off core and shear-wall junctions.
Healthcare & Institutional
Hospital and campus multi-level car parks run around the clock and cannot tolerate long shutdowns. Pre-drilled 3 m frames install bay-by-bay in phased possessions, and locally available spares keep maintenance predictable.
Warehousing & Logistics
Floor joints on light-truck routes and loading circulation areas take repeated wheel passes. Within its 90 kN pneumatic-tyre rating, ParkGuard protects joint edges that would otherwise spall and ravel into a maintenance liability.
Refurbishment Projects
Older decks with failed sealant joints or welded checker plates are prime candidates: edges are repaired, ParkGuard is surface-mounted over the existing joint, and the deck returns to service with a renewable, engineered detail.

How we position D-Seal ParkGuard
ParkGuard sits in the middle of the D-Seal expansion joint range: for wider gaps, heavier loading or seismic movement, D-Seal’s other floor profiles and heavy-duty covers pick up where it stops, while D-Seal wall and ceiling covers complete the same joint line vertically. Where the joint also needs a wet seal, D-Seal polysulphide and PU joint sealants or EPDM strip seals handle the waterproofing layer below the cover. For deck-wide protection, we typically pair parking joints with a trafficable deck coating system from Fosroc or Sika, and joint-edge repairs before installation are usually done with Fosroc Renderoc or Dr. Fixit repair mortars — all available through Space Arc with application support.
