STP Extender 90
A graded, non-toxic silica aggregate that turns any STP epoxy or PU floor coating into a hard-wearing, high-grip, non-skid surface.
What is it?
A single-pack, non-toxic graded silica aggregate (medium-to-fine crystalline grains) used to build slip resistance into STP epoxy, PU and coating floor systems.
Where is it used?
Ramps, car park decks, loading bays, wet-process areas and high-wear industrial floors where a positive non-skid texture is needed.
Why use it?
It delivers a consistent, heavy-duty grip surface with chloride- and sulphate-free grains that will not corrode reinforcement or alter the coating chemistry when dosed correctly.
How is it applied?
Either stirred into the wet coating (stir-in) or broadcast onto the freshly applied wet film, with excess grains reclaimed before the sealer coat once the base has gelled.
About STP Extender 90
STP Extender 90 is the aggregate that quietly does the hard work inside an anti-slip floor. On its own it is simply a bag of graded silica, but paired with an STP epoxy or polyurethane coating it becomes the texture that stops a forklift tyre or a worker’s boot from sliding on a ramp, a wet bay or a wash-down area. STP (formerly Shalimar Tar Products) supplies it as a single-pack, non-toxic, white crystalline aggregate blended from medium and fine particle sizes, so a single product can serve both a coarse, aggressive grip and a finer, more comfortable texture depending on how it is used.
For engineers and applicators in Delhi NCR and across India, the appeal is control and compatibility. Because the grains are chloride- and sulphate-free with a solids content of 100 percent, they add mechanical texture without introducing anything that attacks the substrate or the resin. The two application routes, stir-in and broadcast, let a contractor dial the surface in: stir-in gives a uniform, self-textured coat in one pass, while broadcasting onto a wet film builds a heavier, more pronounced non-skid profile for the toughest traffic. It is not a decorative product and it is not a standalone floor, it is the grip component of a system, and used with the matching STP coating it is a dependable way to meet a slip-resistance requirement.
The technical insight
Slip resistance is really about micro-texture: a smooth resin floor offers almost no mechanical key for a tyre or sole, so under water or oil it behaves like glass. STP Extender 90 works by seeding thousands of hard silica grains across the coating surface, each one projecting slightly above the resin film to create a multitude of contact points that break the lubricating film and restore friction. The graded blend is the key, roughly 90 to 100 percent passes a 35 mesh sieve while only up to 10 percent passes 100 mesh, so there is a controlled spread of larger grains for aggressive grip and finer grains that fill between them for an even, consistent finish rather than sharp isolated peaks. Because the aggregate is inert, chloride- and sulphate-free and 100 percent solids, it changes only the surface profile, not the cure chemistry or long-term durability of the STP coating, provided the recommended dosage is respected. Overdose it and you starve the resin of binder and disturb flow and mechanical strength; underdose it and the texture is too shallow to grip. That dependence on correct dosing is exactly why it is treated as a system component rather than a general filler.
Where it is used
- Broadcast anti-slip texture on epoxy and PU floor coatings in industrial units
- Non-skid finishing of vehicle ramps, spiral ramps and car park decks
- Grip layer for loading and unloading bays and forklift traffic aisles
- Wet-process and wash-down areas in factories and processing plants
- Food, beverage and pharmaceutical floors requiring a hygienic, non-toxic non-slip surface
- Stir-in texturing of general workshop and warehouse coating systems
- High-wear circulation zones and equipment gangways subject to spillage
- Refurbishment of worn resin floors where grip has polished away
Key advantages
- Compatible with the full range of STP flooring and coating systems, so it drops into an existing spec without a chemistry change
- Produces a genuine heavy-duty, non-skid surface with maximum grip for foot and vehicle traffic
- Two application options, stir-in for a uniform one-pass texture or broadcast for a heavier, aggressive profile
- Non-toxic grains suit food, beverage and pharmaceutical environments where hygiene matters
- Chloride- and sulphate-free composition will not corrode embedded steel or attack the substrate
- 100 percent solids with no solvents or volatiles added to the system
- Single-pack, ready-to-use aggregate with no site mixing or ratio to prepare
- Consistent factory grading gives a repeatable texture from one batch and area to the next
Limitations & considerations
- Not a standalone product, it only performs as the grip component of a compatible STP epoxy or PU coating system
- Performance depends entirely on correct dosage, over- or under-application alters flow, texture and mechanical properties of the floor
- Must be spread into a wet film during application, timing with the coating’s pot life and gel time is critical
- Silica grains must be protected from water and moisture contamination before use or grip and adhesion suffer
- The textured, profiled surface is harder to clean than a smooth resin floor and can trap debris in aggressive broadcasts
- No independently published coverage or DIN/EN slip-rating class is stated on the data sheet, so trials are needed to confirm a target grip level
Selection & best practice
Treat STP Extender 90 as part of the coating system, not a loose additive. Decide the method up front: stir-in for a uniform, moderate texture across large areas, or broadcast where you need an aggressive, heavy-duty grip on ramps and wet bays. For broadcasting, apply the STP base coat and, while the film is still wet, cast the grains evenly to full refusal (rather than dribbling them on) so coverage is consistent; once the base has gelled, sweep or vacuum off the loose, unbonded excess before applying the sealer or top coat, which locks the grains in and controls the final grip and cleanability. Always confirm the dosage against STP’s recommendation for the specific coating grade, because too much aggregate starves the resin and too little leaves the floor slippery. Keep the bags dry and sealed until the moment of use, spread only into a wet film, and have applicators wear appropriate PPE. On any new specification, lay a small trial bay first and check the texture and grip with the client before committing the whole floor.

Industry use cases
Warehousing & Logistics
Broadcast into epoxy coatings on ramps, dock levellers and forklift aisles to keep loaded traffic from sliding on inclines and at wet dock edges.
Food & Beverage Processing
Provides a hygienic, non-toxic non-slip texture in wash-down and wet-process zones where standing water and spillage make smooth floors hazardous.
Automotive & Parking Structures
Creates a durable non-skid deck on spiral ramps and car park slabs that stays grippy under tyre wear and monsoon-season moisture.
Pharmaceutical & Clean Manufacturing
Adds controlled grip to resin floors in production and gowning areas without introducing chlorides, sulphates or toxic residues into a controlled environment.
Heavy Engineering Workshops
Stir-in texturing of workshop and gangway coatings gives underfoot grip around machinery, oil spillage and high-wear circulation routes.

How we position STP Extender 90
STP Extender 90 belongs with the STP flooring family and should be quoted alongside the STP epoxy and PU coating it will texture, rather than on its own. Space Arc typically pairs it with an STP primer and the compatible STP self-levelling or coating grade to deliver a complete anti-slip floor build-up. Where a project is specified around Fosroc instead, the direct equivalent is Fosroc Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains used with the Nitoflor coating range, and for smooth high-build resin floors that do not need broadcast grip we can offer STP or Fosroc self-levelling epoxy systems. As an authorised distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc can supply the aggregate as a standalone line item or as part of a matched flooring package with the correct primer, base and sealer.
Fosroc Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains — Choose the Fosroc grains when the floor is already specified around the Nitoflor coating range, so the aggregate grading and the resin system come from the same manufacturer.
