Asian Paints SmartCare SmartCare Tile Grout – Epoxy Based
A three-component epoxy grout built for zero-seepage, chemical-proof tile joints in Delhi NCR’s toughest wet areas — bathrooms, kitchens, pools and hygiene-critical floors.
What is it?
A three-component (3K), 100%-reactive epoxy resin grout — separate Resin, Hardener and Filler Powder packs — for filling ceramic, vitrified, porcelain and natural-stone tile joints up to 10 mm wide.
Where is it used?
Bathrooms, commercial and institutional kitchens, swimming pool decks, hospitals and labs, breweries and dairies, and any tiled wet area where hygiene or chemical exposure rules out ordinary cement grout.
Why use it?
Cures by chemical cross-linking rather than hydration, so the joint ends up dense and essentially non-porous — nil water absorption, nil linear shrinkage and a tensile bond strength over 4.5 MPa, well beyond what a cement-based grout can hold in constant-wet or chemically aggressive floors.
How is it applied?
Mix a full unit of Part A (Resin) and Part B (Hardener) first, then blend in Part C (Filler Powder) with a slow-speed drill mixer to a uniform paste; press it into joints with a hard rubber squeegee inside the ~60-minute pot life, then tool and sponge off the haze within 20-25 minutes before it sets.
About Asian Paints SmartCare SmartCare Tile Grout – Epoxy Based
Asian Paints launched this epoxy grout under the SmartCare umbrella as the step-up option above its everyday cement-based tile grout — for the jobs where a specifier or a fussy homeowner can’t risk a porous joint. Sold under product code 6719/6720, it’s built as a three-part (3K) system: a resin, a hardener, and a separately packed filler powder that gets folded in on site rather than pre-blended at the factory. That’s a meaningfully different (and more finicky) product than the single-pouch “just add water” epoxy grouts some competitors sell, and it’s worth understanding before a crew opens the tins for the first time.
What you’re really buying is chemical resistance and zero porosity, not just a fancier grey line between your tiles. Cement-based grout hardens by hydration, stays microscopically porous, and will absorb water, oil, and pigment over years of mopping — which is why bathroom grout lines in most Indian homes eventually grey out or grow mould in the corners. This epoxy system cross-links instead, closing that porosity almost entirely: the technical data sheet records nil water absorption and nil linear shrinkage, backed by ANSI A118.3 and EN 13888 compliance, the two standards most Indian project specifications reference when they call out an epoxy grout by name rather than just “waterproof grout.”
The technical insight
The “3K” in the name is the detail that decides whether this job goes well or badly on site. Unlike a 2K (two-component) epoxy grout where hardener is simply stirred into a pre-filled resin base, this is a genuine three-part system — Resin, Hardener and Filler Powder dosed separately at a fixed 20% : 10% : 70% ratio by weight. The sequence matters: resin and hardener are blended to a fully homogeneous liquid first, and only then is the filler powder worked in gradually. Add filler too early or stop mixing before the batch is uniform, and you get exactly what the datasheet warns against — partial curing, patchy colour, or joints that stay tacky. With a pot life of only about 60 minutes, crews used to the more forgiving working time of cement grout need to consciously downsize their batches — enough for roughly one wall or one bathroom floor section at a time — rather than mixing a full tub and racing the clock. The payoff for getting that discipline right is a joint with specific gravity 1.8 and tensile bond strength above 4.5 MPa after 14 days’ air drying, essentially a monolithic, chemically inert seal that will usually outlast the tile adhesive bed and even the tile itself before it needs attention.
Where it is used
- Bathroom and wet-area floor/wall tile joints in homes, hotels and hospitals
- Commercial and institutional kitchen floors exposed to oil, grease and daily acid-based cleaning
- Swimming pool tile decks and pool-surround paving
- Hospital, diagnostic-lab and pharma cleanroom tile joints where a sterile, non-porous finish is specified
- Breweries, dairies, bottling lines and food-processing wash-down floors
- Vitrified and porcelain flooring in high-footfall retail, lobby and F&B areas
- Natural stone, granite and marble joint filling where staining must be avoided
- Balconies, terraces, wash areas and other tile surfaces under near-constant moisture
Key advantages
- Nil water absorption and nil linear shrinkage — joints stay watertight and crack-free long after cement grout would have failed
- Chemical and stain resistant — shrugs off oils, mild acids, detergents and disinfectants without discolouring
- Tensile bond strength over 4.5 MPa, well above typical cementitious grout, so it holds up under heavy foot and wheeled traffic
- Hygienic, non-porous surface resists mould, mildew and bacterial growth — the reason hospitals and food plants specify it by name
- Certified to ANSI A118.3 and EN 13888, the two standards most Indian tender specs cite for epoxy grout
- 10 decorative shades, so grout lines can be colour-matched instead of defaulting to grey or white
- Handles both fine (2-3 mm) and wide (up to 10 mm) joints from a single product
- Effectively a one-time grouting job for wet areas — no periodic resealing the way cement grout needs
Limitations & considerations
- Costs several times more per kg than ordinary cement-based grout — a real budget factor on large-area residential jobs
- The roughly 60-minute pot life forces small-batch mixing; crews unfamiliar with 3K epoxy systems often waste material or end up with patchy cure
- Must be sponge-cleaned within a 20-25 minute window before the epoxy haze sets — this is skilled labour, not a casual weekend DIY job
- Cannot be applied on a wet or damp substrate, and needs the tile adhesive bed to cure a full 24 hours first — adds time versus grouting straight after tiling
- Correct 20:10:70 resin:hardener:filler mixing and thorough blending are non-negotiable — partial mixing is the most common on-site cause of soft or uncured joints
- Unnecessary spend for ordinary dry-area domestic tiling, where a good cement-based or polymer-modified grout already performs adequately
Selection & best practice
Always mix a full, unopened set of Resin, Hardener and Filler together — never eyeball a partial batch — and size each mix to what you can place and clean within the ~60-minute pot life, roughly one bathroom wall or floor section at a time. Run a small mock-up panel before the main pour, mask off unglazed, matte-finish or textured tiles beforehand so grout haze doesn’t bond permanently to the surface, and never grout onto a damp tile bed — give the adhesive its full 24-hour cure first. For hospitality, healthcare or large commercial floors, get an experienced applicator (or Space Arc’s own site team) to quote and run the job; with this product, correct mixing technique decides the outcome more than the product itself does.

How we position Asian Paints SmartCare SmartCare Tile Grout – Epoxy Based
Within the SmartCare range, this epoxy grout sits above the everyday SmartCare Tile Grout – Cement Based: reach for the cement version on ordinary dry-area domestic tiling, and step up to this 3K epoxy for bathrooms, kitchens, pools and any floor with real hygiene or chemical exposure. It pairs naturally with SmartCare Epoxy TriBlock or SmartCare Damp Proof under the tiles for a fully non-porous wet-area system, or with SmartCare Tile Coat where an existing grout line needs a cosmetic refresh rather than a full regrout. In the open market, the closest comparables are Pidilite’s Roff Rainbow/Xtreme epoxy grouts and Laticrete SpectraLOCK or Mapei Kerapoxy — all established epoxy tile grout names with Indian distribution networks. Fosroc, despite being Space Arc’s other major principal, doesn’t carry a direct retail tile-joint epoxy grout in its India catalogue; its grout range (Conbextra and similar) is formulated for structural and anchor grouting rather than decorative tile joints, so it isn’t a genuine substitute for this application.
