Fosroc Decofill
Fast-setting, overpaintable white acrylic gap filler for interior skirtings, cornices, door and window surrounds, and adjacent plasterwork.
What is it?
A ready-to-use, white acrylic-based decorator’s caulk in paste form, gunned straight from a cartridge to fill interior gaps and cracks.
Where is it used?
Interior finishing joints: wall/ceiling angles, cornices, skirtings, staircases, and the gaps around door frames, window frames and fitted furniture.
Why use it?
It sets fast, stays flexible enough to absorb minor movement, and can be overpainted or papered, so a caulked line disappears into the finished wall.
How is it applied?
Load the 310 ml cartridge into a sealant gun, extrude into the gap, then tool it off within 15 minutes using a spatula or stick dipped in clean water.
About Fosroc Decofill
Fosroc Decofill is the acrylic gap filler that painters and finishing contractors reach for when a wall has to look seamless. It is a white, water-based acrylic paste supplied in cartridges and applied with an ordinary sealant gun, filling the untidy gaps that always appear where two building elements meet: the line between a skirting and the plaster, the shadow gap around a new door or window frame, the joint behind a fitted wardrobe, and the crack that opens along a ceiling cornice. Because it goes off quickly and can be smoothed with a wet spatula or damp sponge, a crew can caulk a run of joints and move on without long waiting times.
What makes Decofill a finishing product rather than a structural sealant is that it accepts decoration. Once it has set, the line can be painted over with ordinary emulsion, or papered, so the repair vanishes into the surrounding surface. It cures simply by losing water to the air, needs no primer on most substrates, and cleans up with water while still wet. Decofill is strictly an interior product for gaps that stay put or move very little; genuinely working expansion joints, wet-area perimeters and any exterior work call for an elastomeric sealant instead. Used within that brief, it is one of the quickest ways to turn a rough second-fix into a paint-ready finish.
The technical insight
Decofill is a plasticised acrylic emulsion carrying about 85% solids. It contains no reactive chemistry and no solvent cure: the paste simply loses its water into the surrounding air and substrate, and as that water leaves, the acrylic particles coalesce into a continuous, slightly rubbery film. That drying mechanism explains every quirk of how it behaves on site. It skins in roughly 15 to 45 minutes, which is why the joint must be tooled promptly, yet full cure through the depth takes about 3 to 5 days depending on bead thickness, temperature and humidity, so a thick 25 mm fillet dries far slower than a thin caulk line and shrinks back to a concave face. Because water has to escape, Decofill needs ventilation and does not like being applied in cold, still or persistently damp conditions, and it should not be trapped under paint before it has dried out. The cured film reaches a Shore A hardness of about 30, soft enough to flex with the small seasonal movements of a plastered interior and to take a coat of emulsion without cracking, which is exactly the balance a decorator’s caulk needs.
Where it is used
- Sealing the gap between skirting boards and adjacent plaster or masonry
- Filling wall-to-ceiling angles and cracks along ceiling cornices
- Caulking the perimeter of interior door and window frames against plaster
- Making good around fitted furniture, wardrobes and kitchen units
- Neatening the joints and margins around replacement window installations
- Filling shrinkage cracks and gaps in interior plaster before painting
- Sealing joints along staircases and interior trim ahead of decoration
- Priming very porous substrates when thinned one part Decofill to two parts water
Key advantages
- Fast setting, skinning in 15-45 minutes so crews can decorate sooner
- Overpaintable and paperable, letting the caulk line disappear into the finish
- Stays flexible at about Shore A 30 to absorb minor interior movement
- Excellent adhesion to concrete, brick, plaster, wood and glazed tiles
- Non-staining white paste that tools to a clean, smooth fillet
- Water-based, low-odour and free of any significant health hazard in normal use
- No primer needed on most common interior substrates
- Cleans up and thins with plain water, so no solvents on site
Limitations & considerations
- Interior use only, not recommended for exterior applications
- Resists water once cured but must not be used in permanently immersed joints
- Not a movement-joint sealant, avoid over genuine working expansion joints
- Cures by water loss, so it needs ventilation and dislikes cold, damp or high-humidity conditions
- Large fills up to 25 mm set slowly and shrink to a concave face on drying
- Store above 0 degrees C to prevent frost damage; 12-month shelf life
Selection & best practice
Work onto clean, dry, grease-free surfaces; Decofill grips concrete, brick, plaster, timber and glazed tile without a primer, but very porous substrates benefit from a brush coat of Decofill thinned one part to two parts water, left to dry first. Cut the cartridge tip, screw on the nozzle and trim it at 45 degrees to suit the gap, then gun the paste in so it fully contacts both joint faces. Tool the bead off within 15 minutes using a spatula or stick dipped in clean water, and run masking tape along the edges for a crisp line, lifting it immediately after tooling. Keep beads to a triangular fillet where possible; for wider gaps approaching 25 mm expect slower set and some shrinkage, and consider filling in stages. Allow at least an hour before painting, with overnight drying preferred, and use ordinary emulsion; oil paints only over fully cured sealant. Do not paint or paper over joints that actually move.

Industry use cases
Residential fit-out
Painters caulk skirting-to-wall lines, cornice cracks and frame margins across apartments so every junction is paint-ready and seamless.
Commercial interiors and offices
Finishing crews neaten partition trims, door surrounds and fitted-joinery gaps before emulsion, keeping handover snags to a minimum.
Renovation and window replacement
After swapping windows or doors, contractors make good between new frames and existing interior plaster without re-plastering.
Hospitality and retail interiors
Fit-out teams close the gaps around counters, cladding trims and built-in units so decorated surfaces read as one continuous finish.
Institutional and dry-service buildings
Maintenance teams fill interior plaster shrinkage cracks and wall-ceiling angles in dry, ventilated areas ahead of repainting cycles.

How we position Fosroc Decofill
Decofill sits at the finishing end of the Fosroc sealant range: it is a decorator’s acrylic caulk for interior, static gaps, not a structural or movement sealant. Where a joint actually moves, sits in a wet area, or faces outdoors, specify Fosroc Nitoseal MS600, the one-part MS-polymer elastomeric sealant Space Arc also supplies. For construction and floor movement joints, Fosroc’s Thioflex and Colpor ranges are the correct choice, while cementitious crack and gap repair is better handled by a Fosroc Nitomortar or Renderoc patching mortar. Across our other brands, Space Arc can pair Decofill with tile-joint grouts and silicone sanitary sealants for bathrooms and kitchens where Decofill itself is unsuitable. Talk to our team in Delhi NCR or Pan-India to match the right sealant to each joint condition rather than forcing one product across all of them.
