Fosroc Dekguard Textured
A textured, water-based acrylic weather-resistant coating system for exposed concrete and masonry, applied over a penetrating silane-siloxane primer to mask surface defects and protect reinforced structures from the elements.
What is it?
A single-component, water-based acrylic textured protective coating applied over a penetrating silane-siloxane primer, forming the decorative and weather-resistant finish of the Fosroc Renderoc concrete repair system.
Where is it used?
Exposed reinforced concrete and masonry on facades, bridges, flyovers, water-retaining structures, industrial buildings and repaired surfaces where a uniform textured finish is needed to disguise patchy substrates.
Why use it?
It combines long-term weather and UV resistance with a high-build texture that hides repair patches and surface irregularities, while remaining vapour-permeable so the structure can breathe.
How is it applied?
Grit-blast and clean the substrate, apply Dekguard Primer at 0.4 litres/m2, allow 12 hours to dry, then brush or roller-apply Dekguard Textured at 0.5 litres/m2 to a wet film thickness of not less than 500 microns, texturing with a suitable roller.
About Fosroc Dekguard Textured
Fosroc Dekguard Textured is the textured, decorative grade within the Fosroc Dekguard family of protective and anti-carbonation coatings. Where Dekguard S and Dekguard AC deliver a smooth elastomeric or acrylic film, Dekguard Textured is engineered specifically for situations where the concrete surface is uneven, patch-repaired, or visually inconsistent and the client wants a single, uniform finish across an entire elevation. It is supplied as a complete two-part system: a clear, penetrating silane-siloxane primer (Dekguard Primer) and a single-component, pigmented, water-based acrylic textured top coat. Both parts are factory-prepared and ready for on-site use, with no field mixing of resin and hardener required.
The role of the primer is more than a simple bond coat. Dekguard Primer is a reactive silane-siloxane dissolved in a penetrating organic carrier; it migrates into the surface pores of the concrete and chemically forms a hydrophobic barrier, reducing the passage of water and waterborne contaminants such as chloride ions. The textured acrylic top coat is then laid over this primed surface to provide the visible weather shield, the decorative colour, and the texture itself. The acrylic binder gives low dirt pick-up and good resistance to UV light, rain and general atmospheric exposure, so the finish stays cleaner and weathers more slowly than conventional masonry paints.
For Indian projects, the most useful characteristic is that Dekguard Textured is a recognised component of the Fosroc Renderoc concrete reinstatement system. After a corroded or spalled column or soffit has been broken out and rebuilt with Renderoc repair mortars, the repaired patches are almost never the same colour or texture as the parent concrete. Dekguard Textured is applied across the whole element, levelling the visual difference between repair and substrate while adding a protective barrier against further environmental attack. Rougher substrates can first be levelled with Renderoc RP252, and minor blemishes with the Renderoc FC fairing coat, before the textured coating goes on. This makes it a natural specification choice on bridge rehabilitation, flyover refurbishment and building facade restoration work where both protection and a clean uniform appearance are demanded.
The technical insight
The defining feature of Dekguard Textured is that it is a system rather than a single film. Anti-carbonation and water-resistance performance is delivered by the silane-siloxane primer working in tandem with the acrylic top coat, not by the top coat alone. The primer (Dekguard Primer, or the alternative Nitoprime DG on more porous surfaces) is applied first at 0.4 litres/m2 to establish a hydrophobic, chemically bound barrier in the pore structure, then left to dry for a minimum of 12 hours at 20 degrees C before overcoating. The water-based acrylic textured top coat is applied at 0.5 litres/m2 to a wet film thickness of not less than 500 microns per coat, with the practical coverage of Dekguard Textured working out to roughly 2 m2 per litre and Nitoprime DG to around 2.5 m2 per litre. The high film build is deliberate: it is what allows the texture to bridge and mask surface defects. Critically, Fosroc notes the coating is breathable, allowing water vapour to escape from the structure rather than trapping it behind the film, which is why it can be used on damp-prone concrete without blistering, provided the substrate temperature is above 5 degrees C at application. For maximum protection against acid gases, chloride ions, oxygen and water, Dekguard Textured is specified in combination with Dekguard S, which adds a dedicated anti-carbonation barrier beneath the textured finish.
Where it is used
- Decorative and protective finishing of exposed reinforced concrete facades on commercial and residential towers
- Uniform overcoating of patch-repaired columns, beams and soffits after Renderoc concrete reinstatement
- Refurbishment of bridge piers, abutments, parapets and flyover structures in Delhi NCR and across India
- Weather-resistant coating of masonry and rendered surfaces requiring a textured, defect-masking finish
- Coating of industrial structures, water-retaining tanks (non-immersed zones) and water treatment buildings
- Restoration coating where a single uniform colour and texture is needed across mixed old and new concrete
- Anti-carbonation protection of structures when used with Dekguard S as the base barrier coat
Key advantages
- High resistance to long-term weathering and durable performance in all climatic conditions, including hot and humid Indian exposure
- Textured high-build finish that disguises patchy, repaired or unsightly substrates and levels visual differences across an elevation
- Vapour-permeable film that allows the structure to breathe and lets trapped moisture escape, reducing blistering risk
- Water-based acrylic top coat with low dirt pick-up, keeping facades cleaner for longer
- Good UV and rain resistance for stable colour and appearance over time
- Available in a wide range of decorative colours to meet architectural intent
- Complete factory-prepared system (primer plus top coat) that is ready for on-site use with no field mixing
- Compatible with the Renderoc concrete repair system and can be combined with Dekguard S for enhanced anti-carbonation and chemical protection
Limitations & considerations
- Not suitable for surfaces subjected to ponded or standing water; specify Dekguard S where occasional ponded water is anticipated
- Should not be applied when substrate temperature is below 5 degrees C
- Requires protection from rain for at least 2 hours at 20 degrees C, or up to 20 hours at 5 degrees C, after application
- Should not be applied when prevailing relative humidity exceeds approximately 90 percent
- Demands thorough surface preparation by grit blasting; oil, grease, laitance, curing compounds, moss and algae must be fully removed for adhesion
- When applied over existing coatings or paints, trial areas are essential as performance depends on the bond of the underlying coating to the substrate
- The textured finish is a high-build coating, so achieving uniform coverage requires care; non-uniform application produces varying textures
- Being a pigmented batch product, minor colour variation can occur between batches, so each elevation should be completed from a single batch where possible
Selection & best practice
Treat Dekguard Textured as a system, not a paint. Begin by grit-blasting the concrete or masonry to remove laitance, curing compounds, oil, grease and any moss or algal growth, and treat any biological growth with a proprietary biocide after blasting. Level rough areas with Renderoc RP252 and fill minor blemishes with Renderoc FC before coating. Apply Dekguard Primer (or Nitoprime DG on more porous surfaces) at 0.4 litres/m2 and allow it to dry for a minimum of 12 hours at 20 degrees C, and longer in cooler weather, before overcoating; never overcoat until the primed surface is properly dry. Stir the textured top coat thoroughly and apply it by brush or roller at 0.5 litres/m2 to a wet film thickness of not less than 500 microns, working a suitable roller to develop a consistent texture. Mask glass, window frames, sealants, asphalt and planting, and protect freshly coated surfaces from rain for at least 2 hours at 20 degrees C. Where one elevation requires more than one batch, complete whole, distinct elevations from a single batch to avoid visible colour variation, and always apply a site sample panel to agree the texture and colour before full-scale work. Where anti-carbonation or acid-gas protection is the priority, specify Dekguard S beneath the textured finish.

Industry use cases
Bridge & Flyover Rehabilitation
After Renderoc repair of spalled piers, abutments and parapets, Dekguard Textured is applied across the whole element to mask repair patches and add a weather barrier, a common requirement on NHAI and PWD structure refurbishment in Delhi NCR.
Building Facade Restoration
Exposed concrete and rendered facades on commercial and residential towers are coated to deliver a single uniform texture and colour while improving cleanliness through the low dirt pick-up acrylic top coat.
Water & Sewage Infrastructure
Above water-line concrete on treatment plant buildings, channels and tank exteriors is protected with the textured finish, with Dekguard S specified where occasional ponded water or stronger acid-gas exposure is expected.
Industrial & Commercial Structures
Warehouses, plant rooms and process buildings use the system to protect reinforced concrete from carbonation and chloride ingress while presenting a durable, low-maintenance external finish.
Heritage & Repaired Concrete
On structures where old parent concrete sits alongside new repair mortar, the high-build texture levels the visual mismatch, giving conservation and rehabilitation projects a coherent appearance.

How we position Fosroc Dekguard Textured
Within the Fosroc range, Dekguard Textured sits alongside the smooth-finish coatings Dekguard S (anti-carbonation elastomeric coating), Dekguard AC (acrylic anti-carbonation coating) and Dekguard E2000, differentiated by its high-build texture and defect-masking ability rather than barrier performance alone. It is most powerful when specified as part of the wider Fosroc protection and repair ecosystem: the Renderoc mortar family (including RP252 and the FC fairing coat) for concrete reinstatement, Dekguard Primer or Nitoprime DG for the hydrophobic base, and Dekguard S as the dedicated anti-carbonation layer where chemical protection is the governing requirement. Against competing systems available in India, credible textured or anti-carbonation alternatives include Sika SikaGard (for example SikaGard-550W Elastic and the textured SikaGard grades), MBS Multibond textured and protective coatings, Pidilite Dr. Fixit Newcoat and protective coating range, and STP (Shalimar Tar Products) protective coatings. The honest position is that Dekguard Textured is not the product to choose if a smooth, highly elastomeric crack-bridging anti-carbonation film is the sole objective; for that, Dekguard S or a SikaGard elastic grade is more appropriate. Its real strength is delivering a uniform, durable, breathable textured finish that hides repairs and surface irregularities while adding weather protection, which makes it the preferred specification on refurbishment and Renderoc repair projects where appearance and protection must be solved together. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies the complete certified system and can advise on whether Dekguard Textured alone, or the Dekguard Textured plus Dekguard S combination, best suits a given structure and exposure.
