Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU
Single-Component Polyurethane Waterproofing Membrane for Terraces, Decks and Water Features
Authorized Project Distributor — Dr. Fixit by Pidilite | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU is a single-component (1K) moisture-cure polyurethane (PU) liquid waterproofing membrane manufactured by Pidilite Industries for application on concrete and masonry substrates where a high-performance, highly elastic, seamless waterproofing membrane is required. Unlike two-component polyurethane systems that require precise mixing of resin and hardener components at site, Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU cures automatically by reaction with ambient moisture from the atmosphere and the substrate, eliminating the mixing step and the associated risk of incorrect mix ratios that can compromise membrane performance. The cured Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU membrane is a fully crosslinked polyurethane rubber with outstanding elongation at break (greater than 500 percent), significantly exceeding the elongation performance of acrylic coatings (100 to 150 percent) and cementitious membranes (40 to 100 percent). This extreme elongation allows Aquashield PU to bridge active cracks — cracks that continue to open and close with thermal cycling and structural movement — up to 2 to 3 mm width, making it suitable for application on concrete structures with structural cracking, post-tensioned slab systems with tendon-related surface cracking, and existing waterproofed structures being renovated where crack activity is a known concern. The single-component format and roller or brush application method make Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU practical for application by trained waterproofing contractors without specialized mixing or pumping equipment. The membrane is applied in two to three coats with Dr. Fixit Fibertape mesh reinforcement embedded at all cracks, construction joints, and changes of plane to provide additional structural reinforcement at the highest-stress points. A UV-protective topcoat (aluminized paint, ceramic tile screed, or cool roof coating) is recommended over the PU membrane on exposed terrace applications to prevent UV-induced chalking of the polyurethane surface. Space Arc Engineering supplies Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU for premium terrace waterproofing, rooftop garden waterproofing, water feature lining, and infrastructure rehabilitation projects throughout Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.
Applications
- Flat concrete terrace and roof deck waterproofing — premium single-component PU membrane system
- Rooftop garden and planter base waterproofing — root-resistant PU membrane under growing medium
- Water feature and fountain basin lining — PU membrane for water containment in landscape features
- Bridge deck and flyover waterproofing — high-movement-accommodation membrane for infrastructure
- Renovation of cracked terraces — applied over existing concrete with active thermal crack movement
- Balcony and podium deck waterproofing — flexible membrane under tile or screed finish
Key Advantages
- Single-component — no mixing required, cures automatically from atmospheric moisture
- Extreme elongation — greater than 500 percent bridges active cracks up to 2 to 3 mm width
- Seamless liquid membrane — no joints, laps, or seams that can delaminate or allow water ingress
- Root resistant — cured PU rubber resists root penetration for rooftop garden applications
- Superior to acrylic coatings — higher elongation, better crack bridging, longer service life
- Cold-applied — no heat application, safe on occupied buildings and in confined spaces

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU compare to Dr. Fixit 201 Acrylic and Dr. Fixit Roofseal for terrace waterproofing, and when is the higher cost of PU membrane justified over acrylic coating?
Three liquid-applied waterproofing membranes in the Dr. Fixit portfolio address the terrace waterproofing requirement at different performance and cost levels: Dr. Fixit 201 Acrylic (acrylic polymer), Dr. Fixit Roofseal (bitumen-modified PU), and Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU (pure single-component PU). Understanding when each is the correct specification requires comparing their key performance parameters relevant to Indian flat roof conditions. Dr. Fixit 201 Acrylic provides elongation of 100 to 150 percent, total DFT of 1.0 to 1.5 mm, material cost index of approximately 1.0 (baseline), UV-stable white or coloured surface, and is suitable for standard residential terraces with hairline to 0.3 mm dormant cracks. It is the correct choice for new-build residential terraces with good quality concrete and minimal crack risk, renovation of terraces with hairline cracking only, and budget-conscious projects where the lower performance is acceptable. Dr. Fixit Roofseal (bitumen-modified PU) provides elongation of 300 percent, total DFT of 1.5 to 2.5 mm, material cost index of approximately 1.5 to 2.0, requires UV-protective topcoat or coating, and is suitable for trafficable terraces, podium decks, and industrial roofs with moderate crack activity. It is the correct choice for heavy-duty trafficable terraces, rooftop gardens, and large commercial roofs where the thicker membrane and higher elongation justify the cost premium over acrylic coating. Dr. Fixit Aquashield PU provides elongation greater than 500 percent, total DFT of 1.0 to 1.5 mm, material cost index of approximately 2.5 to 3.5, requires UV-protective topcoat, and is suitable for terraces with active cracks, post-tensioned slabs, bridge decks, and long-span structures. It is the correct choice for the following specific situations: terraces with visible active thermal cracks (cracks that open and close visibly with temperature change) where 201 Acrylic and Roofseal would fail by membrane rupture at the crack; post-tensioned slab terraces (common in multi-storey commercial buildings) where tendon-related surface cracking creates irregular active crack networks; renovation of terraces with previous waterproofing system failures and confirmed structural crack movement; bridge deck and flyover waterproofing where live load-induced dynamic crack movement requires the highest elongation membrane available; and rooftop garden applications where root penetration resistance is a specific requirement (PU rubber is more root-resistant than acrylic or bituminous coatings). In summary: for standard new-build residential terraces without special crack risk, 201 Acrylic at the lowest cost is the correct specification. For trafficable and heavy-duty terrace applications, Roofseal at medium cost is appropriate. For post-tensioned slabs, active crack structures, bridge decks, and rooftop gardens, Aquashield PU at the premium cost is the technically correct and ultimately most economical specification, as its superior performance prevents the premature failure and costly re-waterproofing that would result from using a lower-performance product in these demanding applications.
