Polymer-Modified Concrete Repair Mortar for Structural and Non-Structural Concrete Repairs

Authorized Project Distributor — Dr. Fixit by Pidilite | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad

Product Overview

Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP is a two-component, polymer-modified, cementitious concrete repair mortar from Pidilite Industries comprising a liquid polymer component (Component A) mixed with a dry cement and aggregate blend (Component B) on site to produce a high-performance repair mortar for concrete reinstatement. The polymer modification gives Pidicrete URP significantly improved performance over plain cement-sand repair mortars: higher bond strength to concrete substrate (typically above 1.5 MPa in pull-off bond tests), greater flexibility and crack resistance, lower shrinkage on curing, and better resistance to carbonation and chloride penetration than unmodified cementitious mortars — the same failure mechanisms that caused the original concrete deterioration. Pidicrete URP achieves high compressive strength (typically above 30 MPa at 28 days) and can be used for both structural concrete repair (beams, columns, slabs, and bridge elements where the repair mortar contributes to load-carrying capacity) and non-structural cosmetic repairs (surface spalls, honeycombing, and surface defects in columns, walls, and architectural concrete elements where only the surface appearance is affected). The two-component system — liquid polymer mixed with dry cementitious powder — ensures consistent polymer dosing in every batch without the site-batching errors that occur when a separate liquid polymer is added to a site-mixed mortar. Pidicrete URP can be applied by hand trowel (for small patches and detailed work) or by spray (for large area repairs) at layer thicknesses from 10 to 50 mm per lift. The component set is supplied pre-proportioned so that the complete liquid component is added to the complete powder component without measuring on site. Space Arc Engineering supplies Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP for building renovation, concrete repair contracts, infrastructure rehabilitation, and precast concrete repair throughout Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.

Applications

  • Repair of spalled and delaminated reinforced concrete in buildings — columns, beams, slabs
  • Bridge pier, abutment, and deck concrete repair — carbonation and chloride-induced deterioration
  • Industrial building concrete frame repair — corrosion-induced spalling reinstatement
  • Parking structure column and soffit repair — de-icing salt chloride damage in northern India
  • Repair of honeycombed concrete at formwork removal — surface and deep void filling
  • Water tank and retaining wall concrete repair — reinstatement of deteriorated cover concrete

Key Advantages

  • Two-component factory-set system — no site proportioning errors, consistent polymer dosing every batch
  • High bond strength above 1.5 MPa — reliable adhesion to prepared concrete substrate
  • High compressive strength above 30 MPa — suitable for structural concrete repair
  • Low shrinkage — minimal shrinkage cracking in the repair zone after curing
  • Hand or spray application — suitable for small patch repairs and large area reinstatement
  • Improved resistance to carbonation and chloride — extended service life of completed repairs

Frequently Asked Questions

What substrate preparation is required before applying Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP and does it need a bonding slurry?

Correct substrate preparation is essential for Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP to achieve its specified bond strength and long-term repair performance. The preparation sequence is: Break out deteriorated concrete: all delaminated, carbonated, chloride-contaminated, and loose concrete must be broken out to sound substrate. Use a hammer and chisel for small areas or a chipping hammer or needle scaler for larger areas. Do not use large mechanical hammers that cause vibration damage to the surrounding sound concrete. The minimum break-out depth should reach sound concrete with a pull-off strength above 1.5 MPa — tested by a pull-off tester if required by the specification. Saw-cut perimeter: saw-cut the repair perimeter to a minimum 10 mm depth perpendicular to the concrete surface to create a clean, defined edge and prevent feathering of the Pidicrete URP repair at the edges. Feathered edges (less than 5 mm thick) will crack and debond. Prepare reinforcement: if reinforcing steel is exposed, assess its remaining cross-section and clean to bright metal by mechanical wire brushing or angle grinding. Apply Dr. Fixit Rebond (or equivalent zinc-rich anti-corrosion primer) to cleaned rebar before applying the bonding slurry. Surface preparation: sandblast, water-jet at high pressure, or scarify the prepared concrete surface to remove all laitance, contamination, and the carbonated surface layer. The substrate must be clean and rough to a minimum CSP 3 to 4 surface profile. Pre-wet the substrate to SSD (saturated surface-dry) condition. Bonding slurry: mix a slurry using Pidicrete URP liquid component and cement (or use the supplied bonding slurry if included in the Pidicrete URP system pack). Scrub the bonding slurry firmly onto the prepared concrete substrate. Apply Pidicrete URP repair mortar onto the bonding slurry while the slurry is still fresh and plastic — do not allow the bonding slurry to dry before applying the repair mortar.
