Master Builders Solutions MasterTop 100
Non-metallic dry shake surface hardener that turns a fresh concrete slab into a dense, abrasion-resistant, low-dusting industrial floor in a single monolithic operation.
What is it?
A factory-blended, ready-to-use cementitious powder with hard natural mineral aggregate (7-8 on the Mohs scale), broadcast as a dry shake over freshly floated concrete.
Where is it used?
Warehouses, workshops, hangars, parking areas, loading platforms, basements, corridors and other floors that take steady rubber-wheeled and pedestrian traffic.
Why use it?
Concentrates wear resistance in the top few millimetres of the slab, cutting dusting and abrasion without a separate bonded topping — verified at under 0.75 g wear on ASTM C501 (H22 wheel, 1,000 cycles).
How is it applied?
Broadcast in two passes onto fresh concrete after bleed water evaporates, floated in, power-trowelled to the desired finish and cured immediately with a membrane curing compound.
About Master Builders Solutions MasterTop 100
MasterTop 100 from Master Builders Solutions is a pre-mixed, non-metallic floor hardener supplied as a free-flowing powder. It is applied as a dry shake over freshly placed and floated concrete floors or screeds, where it is worked into the surface to form a monolithic wearing layer. The blend is built around selected natural aggregates with a hardness of 7 to 8 on the Mohs scale, so the hardest material in the floor ends up exactly where trolley wheels, tyres and foot traffic actually act. Because the aggregate is non-metallic, the finished floor will not rust-stain the way iron-aggregate toppings can in humid Indian conditions.
For contractors, the appeal is programme and cost: the hardener goes down while the slab is being cast, so there is no return visit, no surface preparation and no bond line to fail later. For specifiers, it is a straightforward way to roughly double the serviceable wear life of a plain concrete floor in light and medium duty areas, with a modest range of colour options including light-reflective shades for warehouses and basements.
The technical insight
Concrete floors fail at the surface long before they fail structurally — the cement-rich laitance at the top of a slab is the weakest, dustiest part of the pour. A dry shake hardener inverts that. Broadcast onto the fresh surface once bleed water has evaporated, MasterTop 100 draws moisture up from the slab itself to hydrate its cement fraction, locking Mohs 7-8 mineral aggregate into the top few millimetres. Power trowelling then closes and densifies this layer, sharply reducing porosity. The result is a wearing zone that is integral with the slab — not a bonded topping — with tested abrasion loss below 0.75 g under ASTM C501 (H22 wheel, 1,000 cycles). Because all mixing water comes from within the concrete, timing is everything: apply too early and the shake drowns in bleed water; too late and there is not enough moisture left to incorporate it.
Where it is used
- Warehouse, distribution and storage floors with pallet-truck and trolley traffic
- Mechanical workshops and light engineering bays
- Aircraft hangars and maintenance aprons
- Parking areas and garages for light vehicles
- Loading platforms and dispatch yards under cover
- Basements, cellars, corridors and halls in commercial buildings
- Institutional and retail floors that must stay low-dust
- Vacuum-dewatered (VDF/Tremix) floors, at a capped dosage of 5 kg/m2
Key advantages
- Roughly doubles the wear life of untreated concrete in comparable service
- Verified abrasion resistance: under 0.75 g loss to ASTM C501, H22 wheel, 1,000 cycles
- Monolithic with the slab — no bond line, no separate topping to debond
- Dense, closed surface markedly reduces dusting and eases housekeeping
- Non-metallic aggregate cannot rust or stain, even in damp service
- Single-visit application during the pour keeps floor costs among the lowest of any hardening method
- Available in a selected range of colours, including light-reflective options
- Ready to use from the bag — no site batching or blending
Limitations & considerations
- Only applicable to fresh, plastic concrete — it cannot upgrade a hardened or existing slab
- Performance hinges on application timing and finishing skill; a mistimed shake can craze, delaminate or discolour
- Not resistant to acids, aggressive salts or chemicals that attack Portland cement — use epoxy or PU systems where spillage is expected
- Suited to light and medium rubber-wheeled duty; heavy forklift or steel-wheel traffic calls for a metallic hardener such as the MasterTop 200 series
- Inherits the base slab’s curing, joint and crack-control needs — it does not compensate for a poor concrete mix (minimum M25 grade, slump under 120 mm, air under 3%)
- Coloured floors need a site trial panel before ordering, as final shade depends on the concrete and finishing
Selection & best practice
Plan the pour in bays and stage the bags per bay before concreting starts. Place the base concrete (M25 or better, slump not exceeding 120 mm), screed and bull-float, then wait for bleed water to evaporate — never broadcast into standing water, and never sprinkle water on to help incorporation. Apply in two passes: roughly two-thirds of the total dose first, floated in as soon as the powder darkens with absorbed moisture, then the balance, topping up any lean areas. Keep any single pass below 4 kg/m2 or the shake will demand more moisture than the slab can give. Dose to duty — 3-5 kg/m2 for light traffic, 5-6 kg/m2 medium, 6-8 kg/m2 heavy, and no more than 5 kg/m2 on vacuum-dewatered floors. Power-trowel progressively, steepening the blade angle with each pass, but keep trowelling to a minimum in hot, dry or windy weather. Cure immediately after the final pass with a membrane curing compound such as MasterKure 107i or 181, barricade the area, and saw joints as early as the concrete allows without ravelling.

Industry use cases
Warehousing & Logistics
Distribution centres and godowns across NCR specify dry shake hardeners on new VDF slabs so pallet trucks and racking aisles stay dust-free; light-reflective shades also lift lux levels between racks.
Light Industry & Workshops
Machine shops, assembly halls and two-wheeler service bays get a hard, easy-to-clean deck without the downtime or cost of a resin screed — the hardener goes in with the original pour.
Parking & Basements
Multi-level car parks and basement circulation areas use MasterTop 100 to resist tyre abrasion and stop the chronic dusting that plagues plain trowelled concrete below grade.
Aviation & Defence
Hangar floors need flat, abrasion-resistant, non-rusting surfaces at very large areas and tight budgets — a natural-aggregate dry shake is the standard answer for light-aircraft and MRO bays.
Institutional & Retail
Schools, halls, corridors and back-of-house retail areas gain a coloured, low-maintenance floor finish that survives decades of foot and trolley traffic.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterTop 100
MasterTop 100 is the workhorse of the MasterTop family: the right call when a new slab needs economical, non-rusting wear resistance under rubber-wheeled traffic. Step up to the metallic MasterTop 200 series where forklifts and steel wheels dominate, and pair every pour with MasterKure 107i or 181 curing compound — curing quality makes or breaks a dry shake floor. Where chemical resistance or a seamless decorative finish is the driver, move to MasterTop resin systems such as MasterTop 1202 or 1230. Buyers standardised on Fosroc will find Nitoflor Hardtop an equivalent non-metallic shake, and Space Arc supplies both ex-stock with application support across Delhi NCR and pan-India.
Fosroc Nitoflor Hardtop — A like-for-like non-metallic dry shake hardener — specifiers on Fosroc-standardised projects can swap it in without changing the flooring method statement.
