D-Seal DriveFlex
A mechanical floor expansion joint for interior carpark decks and ramps — pre-drilled metal side strips with a replaceable nitrile insert, rated up to 90 kN across 50-65 mm structural gaps.
What is it?
A mechanical expansion joint system from D-Seal combining pre-drilled metal side strips in 3 m lengths with a flexible, replaceable nitrile rubber insert supplied in 15 m rolls.
Where is it used?
Interior carpark decks, basement parking floors, access ramps and service or loading areas carrying slow-moving vehicles on pneumatic tyres.
Why use it?
It carries wheel loads up to 90 kN across a 50-65 mm gap while the insert absorbs slab movement — and a worn insert unclips and replaces in minutes without breaking out the joint.
How is it applied?
Side strips are anchored through pre-drilled holes onto clean, level joint edges, set parallel at the correct width; the nitrile insert is then pressed into the channel and trimmed at terminations.
About D-Seal DriveFlex
D-Seal DriveFlex is a mechanical floor expansion joint built for the places where vehicles and structural movement meet: interior carpark decks, basement parking floors and access ramps. Manufactured by D-Seal, the expansion-joint brand of Dhawan Associates, it pairs pre-drilled metal side strips with a flexible nitrile rubber insert. The strips anchor to each side of the structural gap and carry the wheel load; the insert sits between them and absorbs the thermal and structural movement of the slabs across gaps of 50 to 65 mm.
Space Arc Engineering supplies and installs DriveFlex across Delhi NCR and pan-India. The system comes in flat and angle versions for floor-to-floor and floor-to-wall junctions, with side strips in mill-finish aluminium, galvanised steel or stainless steel and inserts in black or grey to suit the floor finish. Aluminium sections are extruded to ASTM B221-02 in 6063 alloy, and the manufacturer operates ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified systems — useful backing when consultants ask for documentation.
The technical insight
The engineering logic of DriveFlex is load separation. Wheel loads up to 90 kN are taken by the two metal side strips, which finish flush with the floor and transfer load through mechanical anchors into sound concrete on each side of the gap — so tyres cross a supported metal edge rather than bearing on unprotected rubber. The nitrile insert locks into the channel formed by the strips and works purely in flexure: as the slabs expand, contract or deflect, it folds and recovers instead of tearing. Because the insert is mechanically clipped rather than bonded, wear becomes a maintenance item, not a reconstruction item — a worn length unclips and a fresh length presses in from the 15 m roll, with strips and anchors left untouched.
Where it is used
- Interior multi-storey carpark decks carrying car and light-vehicle traffic
- Basement parking floors in commercial and residential towers
- Vehicle access ramps with slow-moving traffic
- Service corridors and loading areas used by light vehicles
- Floor-to-wall junctions in parking structures (angle version)
- Expansion joints in screeded, natural-stone or cast-stone floor finishes
- Podium slabs and interior drive lanes at movement joints
Key advantages
- Replaceable nitrile insert — worn lengths unclip and swap in minutes without breaking out the joint
- Rated up to 90 kN for pneumatic-tyred vehicles, covering cars and light commercial traffic
- Pre-drilled 3 m side strips cut installation time and keep anchor spacing consistent
- Choice of mill-finish aluminium, galvanised steel or stainless steel side strips
- Flat and angle versions handle floor-to-floor and floor-to-wall details from one system
- Black or grey insert options blend with most floor finishes
- Accommodates thermal and structural movement across 50-65 mm gaps
- Low maintenance — routine cleaning and periodic insert inspection is all it needs
Limitations & considerations
- Intended for interior applications; for exposed exterior decks subject to weathering, confirm suitability with the manufacturer before specifying
- Covers structural gaps of 50-65 mm only — narrower or wider joints need a different D-Seal profile
- The 90 kN rating applies to pneumatic-tyred vehicles; steel-wheeled or small hard-wheeled equipment is far harsher on joint edges and needs manufacturer confirmation
- It is a trafficable mechanical cover, not a waterproofing system — where leakage to floors below must be prevented, detail secondary sealing or drainage within the joint
- Requires sound, level concrete arrises; spalled edges must be repaired before fixing, which adds time on refurbishment jobs
- The nitrile insert is a wear part under intense traffic and should be budgeted for periodic replacement
Selection & best practice
Success with DriveFlex is decided at the joint arrises. Check the structural gap along the full run — it must sit within 50-65 mm — and repair any spalled or out-of-level edges with a suitable repair mortar before fixing. Set the side strips parallel and at the correct width, anchor through the pre-drilled holes into sound concrete, and confirm the strips finish flush with the floor so tyres do not clip an edge. Press the nitrile insert firmly into the channel, working along the run without stretching it, and trim neatly at terminations and direction changes. Protect the joint from construction traffic until handover, then fold it into routine housekeeping: keep strips and insert free of grit, and inspect the insert periodically so worn sections are swapped before they lift.

Industry use cases
Commercial Real Estate
Multi-level office and IT-park carparks where joints see all-day car traffic and downtime is unacceptable — insert replacement happens overnight without closing the deck.
Retail & Mixed-Use
Mall basement and podium parking with intense light-vehicle movement; grey or black inserts sit discreetly within finished decks.
Residential Towers
Basement and stilt parking in group-housing projects, where budgets favour a repairable joint over full replacement cycles.
Healthcare & Institutional
Hospital and campus basement parking and service circulation, where stainless steel strips suit stricter cleaning regimes.
Industrial & Logistics
Light-vehicle service lanes and loading zones that stay within the pneumatic-tyre, 90 kN envelope.

How we position D-Seal DriveFlex
Within the D-Seal family, DriveFlex is the workhorse for interior parking traffic. For doorway and threshold joints, GatewaySeal (GFT series, 60 mm gap, 35 mm profile height) is its natural companion; for heavier duty, ask us about LoadMaster and ParkGuard, and for structures needing large seismic movement capacity, SeismoGuard 100 from the same range. Around the joint itself, Space Arc supplies the rest of the deck package: Fosroc Nitoseal or Sika Sikaflex gun-grade sealants for saw-cut and perimeter joints, and Fosroc or Sika deck coating and waterproofing systems where the carpark slab needs protection. One enquiry can cover the full joint schedule and the deck.
