D-Seal SealMaster-HV
A single preformed EPDM compression seal that closes both floor and wall expansion joints up to 120 mm wide, holding out water, oil and chemicals while the structure keeps moving.
What is it?
A solid-profile EPDM rubber compression seal (JD Series) that presses into an expansion or movement joint and stays elastic across a wide temperature band.
Where is it used?
Horizontal slab joints and vertical wall joints in industrial floors, plant rooms, firewalls, steelwork connections and ventilation ducting.
Why use it?
One product covers both joint orientations and resists oil, water and chemical attack, cutting the number of SKUs a specifier has to schedule.
How is it applied?
Cut to length, faces and reglets cleaned, then compressed and seated into the prepared square joint gap, with priming or adhesive where the size profile calls for it.
About D-Seal SealMaster-HV
SealMaster-HV is D-Seal’s dual-orientation EPDM compression seal, part of the JD Series manufactured by Dhawan Associates. It is designed to sit inside a square-edged expansion or movement joint and hold a watertight, elastic bridge across the gap while the surrounding concrete or steel expands, contracts and vibrates. The “HV” in the name signals its defining feature: the same profile family is engineered to work in horizontal floor joints and vertical wall joints, so a project team can standardise on one seal rather than sourcing separate horizontal and vertical products. Ten standard profile sizes are catalogued, covering gaps up to 120 mm, with custom extrusions available where a joint falls between standard widths.
The seal is a solid EPDM rubber section rather than a foam or a gun-grade sealant, which is what gives it its working life. EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is chosen across the joint-sealing industry for its resilience: it stays flexible from roughly -60°C to +125°C, shrugs off ozone, UV and weathering, and resists water, dilute chemicals and many oils. For Space Arc’s clients that means a joint treatment suited to industrial floors that see forklift traffic and spillage, plant areas exposed to process chemicals, and external elevations where UV and rain would degrade a lesser material. Individual sections can be replaced if damaged, so the joint stays serviceable over the life of the building.
The technical insight
A compression seal works on stored elastic energy, not adhesion. The EPDM profile is sized slightly larger than the joint gap and forced into it, so the rubber is permanently held in compression against both joint faces. As the structure moves, the gap widens and narrows and the seal simply relaxes or compresses further, keeping continuous contact pressure on the faces and maintaining the watertight line. Because EPDM’s polymer backbone is fully saturated, it has no reactive double bonds for ozone and UV to attack, which is why it retains elasticity for years where natural rubber or cheaper elastomers would harden and crack. That same chemistry gives it broad resistance to water, dilute acids and alkalis, and many industrial oils. The solid cross-section also damps vibration, so on ducting and steelwork connections the seal doubles as an anti-vibration element rather than just a water barrier.
Where it is used
- Firewall expansion and movement joints in industrial and commercial buildings
- Horizontal concrete slab and structural floor joints
- Vertical wall-to-wall movement joints on elevations and internal walls
- Steelwork connection joints and cavity joints
- Ventilation and HVAC ducting joints needing anti-vibration sealing
- Industrial plant floors exposed to oil, coolant and chemical spillage
- Warehouse and factory floors under forklift and pallet-truck traffic
- Floor-to-wall junctions where a horizontal joint turns up a skirting
Key advantages
- One seal family covers both horizontal and vertical joints, simplifying specification and stock
- Accommodates joint gaps up to 120 mm across ten standard profile sizes
- EPDM stays elastic over a wide temperature range, roughly -60°C to +125°C
- Resists water, oil and many chemicals, suiting aggressive industrial floors
- Excellent ozone, UV and weather resistance for long service life outdoors
- Provides anti-vibration sealing on ducting and steelwork connections
- Individual damaged sections can be replaced without redoing the whole joint
- Custom profiles available where a joint falls outside the standard sizes
Limitations & considerations
- Suits square-edged joints; badly spalled or irregular arrises must be repaired first to give a true compression face
- Compression sealing depends on correct profile selection for the measured gap; an undersized seal will not hold pressure
- Solid EPDM resists many chemicals but is not universally compatible, so confirm suitability against specific concentrated solvents or fuels
- Not a self-levelling flush finish; the seated profile sits within the joint and needs the right size to match required trafficability
- Effective movement range is fixed by the chosen profile, so joints with unusually large or dynamic movement need careful sizing
Selection & best practice
Start by measuring the actual joint gap at several points and at the site temperature, because thermal state changes the reading; select the profile whose working range brackets that measured width with the seal in compression. Prepare square, sound joint arms: saw-cut or repair damaged edges so both faces are straight and clean, then remove dust, laitance, oil and old sealant. Where the profile size specifies priming or a bonding adhesive on the contact faces, apply it per the size sheet before seating. Compress the seal and seat it to the correct depth in continuous lengths, keeping joints between lengths tight and, on chemical or wet-exposed floors, sealed. On vertical and corner runs plan the seal so it turns cleanly at changes of direction. After installation keep the joint clear of grit and debris and inspect periodically, replacing any locally damaged section rather than leaving a breach in the line.

Industry use cases
Industrial and Warehousing
Horizontal floor joints in factories and warehouses that carry forklift traffic and see oil or coolant spillage, where a chemical-resistant elastic seal outlasts a poured sealant.
Manufacturing and Process Plants
Plant-room and process floors exposed to chemicals, plus anti-vibration sealing on connected ducting and steelwork.
Commercial Buildings
Firewall movement joints and vertical wall joints where one HV profile handles both the wall run and the floor return.
HVAC and Services
Ventilation ducting joints that must stay sealed while damping vibration from fans and plant.
Structural Steel and Precast
Steelwork connection joints and cavity joints between frames and cladding that move under thermal and live loads.

How we position D-Seal SealMaster-HV
SealMaster-HV sits in D-Seal’s EPDM joint range alongside SealMaster-H for horizontal square joints, GatewaySeal and DuraEdge Seal for floor joints needing skirting or edge protection, TrafficFlex Seal for traffic-heavy horizontal transitions, and the Vertical Compression Seal and Corner Joint System for wall and corner details, so we can match the exact profile to each joint on a project. Where a joint calls for a gun-applied elastomeric sealant rather than a preformed compression profile, we cross-sell from our other brands, including Fosroc’s Thioflex and Nitoseal polysulfide and polyurethane sealants with the correct primers, and closed-cell backer rod and Fosroc Expandafoam joint filler as back-up and bond-breaker. This lets a specifier keep the preformed seal for the movement gap while using a compatible sealant brand for terminations and secondary joints on the same job.
