D-Seal JointMaster
Heavy-duty recess-mounted aluminium floor joint cover with a free-floating, self-centring centre plate — 1,000 kg point load and +95/−40 mm horizontal movement, manufactured in India by D-Seal.
What is it?
A recess-mounted aluminium expansion joint cover for floors, built around a free-floating centre plate with EPDM seals. It bridges structural joints up to 100 mm wide while finishing dead flush with the surrounding floor.
Where is it used?
Airport terminals, metro stations, shopping malls, hospitals, commercial slabs with light vehicular access, and exterior podiums and plazas — wherever a moving joint crosses a trafficked floor.
Why use it?
It carries a 1,000 kg point load, accommodates +95/−40 mm of horizontal movement, keeps trolleys and foot traffic rolling smoothly over the joint, and accepts fire, moisture and acoustic barrier accessories.
How is it applied?
The aluminium side frames are anchored into a formed recess (blockout) on each side of the joint, so the assembly sits flush with the finished floor. The centre plate is left free to slide and self-centre as the structure moves.
About D-Seal JointMaster
Every large building in India is really several buildings standing side by side, separated by expansion joints that let each block expand, contract and settle on its own. The problem is that those joints run straight across lobbies, concourses and corridors — and an open or badly covered gap becomes a trip hazard, a trolley obstacle and a housekeeping headache. D-Seal JointMaster is designed to make that gap disappear from the user’s point of view. It is a recess-mounted aluminium cover system that sits flush with the finished floor, spans joints up to 100 mm wide, and follows the structure through +95/−40 mm of horizontal and ±3 mm of vertical movement without lifting, rattling or leaving an edge to catch a wheel.
JointMaster is manufactured in India by D-Seal, the expansion joint brand of Dhawan Associates, under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certified systems. The extrusions are aluminium alloy 6063-T6 conforming to ASTM B221, supplied in a practical mill finish, with EPDM seals at the interfaces. For corridors with constant trolley movement — hospital wards, airport baggage routes — the AL-HDC variant adds a secondary centre plate for a quieter, harder-wearing ride. Space Arc Engineering supplies JointMaster across Delhi NCR and pan-India, and can install it through trained applicator teams so the recess detailing and anchoring are done right the first time.
The technical insight
The engineering idea behind JointMaster is deliberate freedom. The centre plate is not bolted rigidly across the joint; it floats between the two anchored side frames, held in position but free to slide. As the slabs on either side drift together or apart, the plate self-centres over the gap instead of binding, buckling or working its fasteners loose — the usual failure modes of rigidly screwed cover plates. That is how a 100 mm joint can safely accommodate movement approaching the full joint width. Load capacity comes from the recess-mounted geometry: because the frames are set into a blockout and anchored into the structural concrete, a wheel crossing the joint transfers its load through the frame into the slab rather than through screws in a screed. The result is a rated 1,000 kg point load with no rocking or dishing underfoot, while the 6063-T6 aluminium sections and EPDM seals shrug off moisture and daily traffic in both interior and exterior exposure.
Where it is used
- Airport terminals, metro concourses and other transport hubs with heavy pedestrian and trolley flows
- Shopping malls, atriums and multiplex circulation floors where joints cross public areas
- Hospital corridors and institutional buildings with constant stretcher and trolley traffic (AL-HDC variant)
- Commercial and office building slabs with occasional light vehicular access
- Exterior podium decks, terraces and plazas, paired with the moisture barrier accessory
- Hotels, convention centres and exhibition halls needing flush, trip-free floor joints
- Long-span structural joints in institutional and public buildings
Key advantages
- Free-floating centre plate self-centres over the joint, so the cover tracks structural movement instead of fighting it
- Rated 1,000 kg point load — trolleys, pallet trucks and light vehicles cross without deflection or rattle
- Generous movement range of +95/−40 mm horizontal and ±3 mm vertical on joints up to 100 mm
- Recess-mounted design finishes completely flush with tile, stone or screed — no raised edges or trip hazards
- 6063-T6 aluminium extrusions (ASTM B221) with EPDM seals suit both interior and exterior exposure
- Fire, moisture and acoustic barrier accessories let one joint line satisfy multiple performance requirements
- AL-HDC variant with secondary centre plate for corridors dominated by trolley traffic
- Made in India under ISO 9001/14001/45001 systems, with local technical support through Space Arc
Limitations & considerations
- Needs an accurately formed recess in sound concrete on both sides of the joint — it is not a stick-down retrofit over uneven or friable screeds
- Point load rating is 1,000 kg; joints under forklifts, trucks or fire-tender routes need a heavier D-Seal system such as LoadMaster or ParkGuard
- Vertical movement capacity is ±3 mm, so joints expecting large differential deflection or seismic racking call for a seismic system like SeismoGuard 100
- Standard mill-finish aluminium will scratch and dull under abrasive traffic; it is a working finish, not a decorative one
- The base cover alone is not a fire or waterproofing seal — the fire and moisture barriers are separate accessories that must be specified
- Joint gaps wider than 100 mm are outside this model’s range and need a wider-joint system from the D-Seal floor range
Selection & best practice
Get the recess right and JointMaster does the rest. Form the blockout to the specified width and depth on both sides of the joint in sound structural concrete — not in a weak topping — and check the actual joint gap against the design gap at the time of installation, since a joint installed at peak summer temperature sits at a different point in its movement cycle than one fixed in January. Anchor the side frames per the D-Seal installation detail, then verify the centre plate slides freely by hand; never bed it in adhesive or allow screed slurry into the mechanism. On exterior podiums, terraces and wet areas, install the moisture barrier beneath the cover before fixing the frames, and lap it into the deck waterproofing. Where the slab carries a fire rating, fit the fire barrier in the joint cavity first. Protect the installed cover from construction traffic and grinding debris until handover. In service, clean with neutral detergent and water, avoid acidic cleaners, and keep grit out of the floating-plate zone during periodic maintenance.

Industry use cases
Airports & Metro
Terminal concourses and station floors see baggage trolleys and cleaning machines cross expansion joints thousands of times a day. JointMaster’s flush, self-centring plate keeps wheels rolling silently while the structure moves beneath.
Healthcare
In hospital corridors, a rattling joint cover under a stretcher is unacceptable. The AL-HDC variant’s secondary centre plate gives a smooth, quiet crossing for trolleys, beds and wheelchairs on institutional floors.
Retail & Malls
Atrium and circulation-floor joints in malls must vanish into the flooring design. Recess mounting lets tile and stone finish flush to the frame, removing trip hazards in high-footfall public areas.
Commercial & IT Parks
Office slabs with occasional light vehicular access — loading corridors, service routes — use the 1,000 kg point-load capacity to carry pallet trucks over structural joints without damage.
Podiums & Plazas
On exterior podium decks and terraces, JointMaster with the moisture barrier accessory covers the movement joint while helping keep water out of the occupied spaces below.

How we position D-Seal JointMaster
JointMaster sits in the middle of the D-Seal floor range: the everyday workhorse for trafficked interior and exterior floor joints up to 100 mm. Where the duty is heavier, step up within the same family — LoadMaster for higher load demands, ParkGuard and DriveFlex for parking decks and drive aisles, and SeismoGuard 100 where seismic movement governs the joint design. To carry the same joint line up walls and across roofs, D-Seal’s wall and roof cover systems match the floor profiles, and D-Seal EPDM seals and polysulphide joint treatments handle joints that need a sealed rather than covered finish. For the narrower, low-movement construction joints found on every project, Space Arc also supplies gun-grade sealants from the Fosroc Nitoseal and Sika Sikaflex ranges — talk to our team and we will map the right system to each joint on your schedule.
