D-Seal GalaxyJoint
Surface-mounted aluminium floor expansion joint cover for 50–125 mm gaps, with a serrated anti-slip tread and integral microseal — built for terminals, hospitals and malls where trolleys never stop rolling.
What is it?
A surface-mounted floor expansion joint cover from D-Seal (Dhawan Associates) with an extruded aluminium tapered frame, serrated slip-resistant tread and a factory-fitted microseal beneath the cover plate.
Where is it used?
Interior floor-to-floor joints of 50–125 mm (2″–5″) in airports, metro stations, hospitals, convention centres, malls and stadiums — anywhere heavy footfall meets rolling loads.
Why use it?
It closes wide structural gaps flush enough for trolleys and wheelchairs, resists slip under crowds, keeps debris and spilt liquid out of the joint, and can be fixed onto existing slabs without breaking the floor open.
How is it applied?
Frames are surface-fixed level along both joint edges on sound, flat substrate; the microseal and cover plate are then inserted and pressed home. Worn seals or plates are replaceable later without removing the frames.
About D-Seal GalaxyJoint
Every long building moves. Thermal cycling, shrinkage and live loads make the structural gap between slabs open and close through the day, and in public buildings that gap sits directly in the path of thousands of feet, luggage trolleys, stretchers and wheelchairs. An uncovered or poorly covered joint becomes a trip point, a debris trap and a maintenance headache. D-Seal GalaxyJoint is Dhawan Associates’ answer for exactly this situation: a surface-mounted aluminium cover system that bridges floor joints from 50 mm up to 125 mm while presenting a serrated, slip-resistant walking surface to traffic above.
Two details set it apart in the D-Seal floor range. First, the frames are tapered, easing rolling loads on and off the cover so trolleys, carts and wheelchairs cross without a jolt. Second, an integral microseal sits below the cover plate, blocking dust, grit and washing water from entering the joint cavity — the usual causes of jammed covers and stained soffits. Because the system fixes to the slab surface, it suits retrofit work on operational buildings as readily as new construction. Space Arc Engineering supplies and installs GalaxyJoint across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
The technical insight
A floor joint cover has one structural job: transfer traffic load across a gap that must stay free to move. GalaxyJoint does this with extruded aluminium sections (ASTM B221, 6063 alloy) anchored to each slab edge, carrying a cover plate that spans the gap while the joint breathes beneath it — accommodating movement of about ±18% of the nominal joint width. The serrations on the tread do double duty: they raise slip resistance underfoot and mask the fine sliding movement between plate and frame so the cover never telegraphs the joint’s cycling to users. The microseal is the quiet workhorse — a compressible barrier that flexes with every movement cycle yet keeps the cavity clean, because most joint-cover failures start not with load but with grit packing the gap until the system can no longer move.
Where it is used
- Airport terminal concourses, check-in halls and baggage-trolley routes
- Metro, railway and bus interchange platforms and circulation areas
- Hospital corridors carrying stretchers, beds and medical trolleys
- Convention and exhibition centres with high crowd density and cart traffic
- Shopping mall atria, walkways and food courts
- Stadium and auditorium concourses handling surge footfall
- Retrofit covering of worn or hazardous joints in operational public buildings
Key advantages
- Covers wide structural gaps of 50–125 mm (2″–5″) with a single system
- Accommodates thermal movement of around ±18% of joint width
- Serrated tread gives dependable slip resistance under wet-mopped, high-traffic floors
- Tapered frames let trolleys, carts and wheelchairs roll across without impact or jolt
- Integral microseal keeps debris and spilt liquids out of the joint cavity
- Surface-mount fixing suits retrofit on existing slabs — no breaking of finished floors
- Seals and cover components are replaceable in service without removing the frames
- Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certified systems
Limitations & considerations
- Being surface-mounted, the cover sits proud of the finished floor; the tapered edges manage this, but a fully flush look needs a recess-mounted system such as D-Seal JointMaster
- Sized for 50–125 mm gaps only — narrower joints are better served by sealant systems, wider or seismic gaps by SeismoGuard or SeismoMax
- The microseal is a debris and liquid barrier, not a warranted waterproofing membrane; wet areas or joints over occupied space need a separate water barrier or drained gutter detail
- Designed for interior floors — exposed roof or facade joints call for weather-rated systems like D-Seal SkyBridge
- Not fire-rated as standard; joints in fire-compartment lines need a tested fire barrier within the joint
- Performance depends on level, sound slab edges — spalled or uneven arrises must be repaired before fixing
Selection & best practice
Start with a joint survey: confirm the actual gap width at several points and at different times of day, since thermal movement can vary the opening noticeably. Slab edges must be sound, level across the joint and free of spalls — repair damaged arrises with a suitable repair mortar and let it cure before installation. Set the frames dead level along both edges, checking alignment across the joint continuously; a step between frames is the most common cause of trolley impact and premature wear. Fix at the manufacturer’s specified anchor centres, insert the microseal without stretching it, then press the cover plate home. At the commissioning stage, roll a loaded trolley across every length to verify smooth transition. In service, sweep regularly, wash with neutral detergent, and clear any debris from the seal line — and order replacement seals rather than tolerating a torn one, since the frames stay in place during changeover. Space Arc’s applicator team handles measurement, supply and installation as a single package.

Industry use cases
Airports & Transit
Terminal concourses and baggage routes where trolley trains cross joints hundreds of times an hour — tapered frames prevent the repeated impact that destroys square-edged covers.
Healthcare
Hospital corridors where stretchers and medicine trolleys must roll smoothly and floors are wet-mopped several times daily; the serrated tread holds grip and the microseal keeps wash water out of the joint.
Metro & Railways
Station concourses and platform-level circulation zones with surge crowds, where a retrofit-friendly surface-mount system can be installed during night blocks without demolishing finished flooring.
Malls & Convention Centres
Atria and exhibition halls where wide structural joints cross public walkways and stall-loading routes, and where appearance and trip-safety are audited constantly.
Stadiums
Concourse and vomitory floors that see short, intense bursts of crowd loading on event days and mechanised cleaning between them.

How we position D-Seal GalaxyJoint
GalaxyJoint sits in the heavy-pedestrian middle of the D-Seal floor range. If your gap is 50–125 mm in a busy interior with rolling loads, it is the right first choice; its sibling D-Seal StarGuard addresses the same gap band where specification calls differ. For a fully flush, recess-mounted finish with fire and acoustic ratings, step up to D-Seal JointMaster; for fork-lift traffic and multi-directional movement, look at D-Seal SeismoGuard 100; for parking decks, D-Seal DriveFlex or LoadMaster carry vehicular loads. Wall and ceiling continuations of the same joint pair naturally with D-Seal JointShield or Aerostar, and exposed roof joints with D-Seal SkyBridge. Where the joint is narrower than 50 mm, a mechanical cover is usually overkill — a gun-applied polysulphide or polyurethane sealant system from our Fosroc or Sika range is more economical, and Space Arc can detail the transition between sealed and covered joints on the same project.
