Worker roller-applying waterproof coating to an Indian terrace roof under monsoon cloud

Point at the leak. We will tell you what stops it.

Dr. Fixit is the waterproofing name your site team already knows. This page is arranged the way a leak actually presents itself — by where the water is getting in, not by chemistry — because that is the only question anyone starts with.

Five places water gets into an Indian building

Pick the one that matches what you are looking at. Each gives you the cause, what to do about it, and the Dr. Fixit lines we actually stock for it.

The terrace — where most Indian leaks startPonding water, thermal movement and monsoon after monsoon. The honest question is not which product, it is how much you are allowed to disturb the roof.

Choose by how much you can disturb it

  • Occupied building, nothing can be broken — a liquid-applied elastomeric coating over the cleaned existing surface
  • Terrace that gets walked on — a trafficable reinforced coating rather than a thin film
  • New or fully stripped roof, project grade — torch-applied APP-modified bitumen membrane

What decides whether it lasts

  • Cracks cut out and filled before anything is coated
  • The stated film thickness actually achieved — this is what most re-coats get wrong
  • Outlets, parapet upstands and pipe penetrations detailed, not just the open field

Pidilite publishes warranties against the Roofseal tiers — those are the manufacturer’s, on Pidilite’s terms, and they assume the right system at the specified coverage over a properly prepared surface. Tell us the roof area, the age and whether it stays in use, and we will say which tier is honest for it.

A bathroom fails at the junctions, not in the middle of the floorNobody ever leaked through the centre of a bathroom slab. It leaks at the floor-to-wall corner, around the drain, and where the pipes come through — so a bucket of coating is not a system.

What the specification has to cover

  • The sunken floor bed and the screed above it
  • Floor-to-wall junctions and internal corners, taped
  • The drain and every pipe penetration
  • Walls taken up to at least shower height, higher behind a rain shower

The usual site failure

  • Coating applied to a dusty or damp screed so it never bonds
  • Corners left to the coating alone instead of being taped
  • Tiling started before the membrane has cured or been flood-tested

Flood-test the bathroom before the tiler starts. It costs a day and it is the only check that actually proves the membrane.

The only waterproofing your client can actually seeAn external wall coating is doing two jobs at once — it is the barrier and it is the finish. That is why it is worth more than exterior emulsion, and why it gets argued about.

Why it is not just paint

  • A 100% elastomeric coating goes on at roughly twice the film thickness of ordinary exterior emulsion, so it bridges hairline cracks instead of tracking them
  • It is the finish — you do not paint over it afterwards
  • UV and anti-algal performance is what keeps a north-facing NCR facade from going green

What to fix first

  • Fill plaster cracks properly — a coating over an open crack is a bridge with no support
  • Deal with the source of any existing damp before you seal the face
  • Check the parapet and sill details; walls usually get wet from above
Plinth, foundation and water tanksBelow ground there is no drying side, and a water tank has to be safe to drink from as well as watertight. Both are two-part problems: what goes into the concrete, and what goes onto it.

The two-part logic

  • An integral waterproofing compound dosed into the concrete or mortar as it is cast or plastered — it only works on new work, not on something already built
  • A barrier coating on the plinth beam and foundation face to stop water rising and bringing salt efflorescence up into the walls

Water tanks specifically

  • Pidilite states that Pidifin 2K and Dampguard are CFTRI certified for potable water contact. That is the manufacturer’s certification and claim, and we report it as such rather than restating it as ours.
  • Positive side wherever you can reach it; negative-side treatment is a remedy, not a plan

LW+ and a roof coating are not alternatives and the confusion costs people money. LW+ goes INTO concrete or mortar while it is being cast. A coating goes ON a surface that already exists.

Cracks, patches on the inside wall, and rising dampInternal damp is a symptom with an external cause almost every time. Sealing the inside face without finding where the water enters just moves the patch.

Find the cause first

  • Damp high on a wall usually comes from the terrace or a parapet, not the wall itself
  • A patch around a bathroom wall means the wet area behind it
  • Damp low on a wall with salt bloom is usually rising, and needs the plinth dealt with

Then repair properly

  • Cut cracks out to a clean edge rather than smearing filler over them
  • Use a shrink-free filler so the repair does not open again in a season
  • Re-plaster with a bonding agent so the new work stays attached
The manufacturer

Who is actually behind Dr. Fixit

Worth knowing, because warranties, certificates and supply all come from Pidilite rather than from us.

Owned byPidiliteIndustries Limited, Mumbai

Dr. Fixit is Pidilite’s waterproofing brand — the same company as Fevicol and M-Seal. It is a brand, not a separate company, which is why you buy Dr. Fixit but deal with Pidilite’s terms on things like warranties.

Indian-owned since1959founded by Balvant Parekh; still Parekh-controlled

Pidilite was founded in 1959 and listed on the BSE and NSE in 1993. The founding Parekh family retains control. Unlike most brands in this catalogue, there has been no change of ownership to get wrong.

Scale₹13,093 crnet sales, with 67 manufacturing units in India

Pidilite reports roughly ₹13,093 crore in net sales, more than 8,900 employees, 67 Indian manufacturing units and 25-plus brands. The point for a builder is supply: this is a brand you can actually get, in quantity, almost anywhere in the country.

Positioned onAvailabilityas much as on performance

Pidilite’s own claim for Dr. Fixit is India’s most widely available waterproofing brand with the widest range. That is a genuinely different proposition from a specification-led European brand, and it is the honest reason many Indian sites standardise on it.

Organised bySurfacenot by chemistry

Pidilite structures the range by where the water is — roof, bathroom, internal wall, external wall, below ground, water tanks — and by whether the job is a repair or new construction. This page follows the same logic, because it is how site teams actually think.

A bathroom is a system, not a coat of paint

The membrane has to run up the walls, turn the corners, seal the drain and wrap every pipe penetration before a single tile is laid. Skipping the tape at the junctions is the single most common reason a new bathroom leaks into the flat below.

Coat: Pidifin 2K and the Bathseal range on a clean, cured screed
Tape: Junctions and corners taped rather than trusted to the coating
Test: Flood-test before the tiler starts — it costs a day

Damp inside is usually a wall or a parapet outside

Salt bloom, peeling paint and a dark patch under a window sill are the wall telling you where the water gets in. Sealing the inside face without fixing the outside just moves the patch along.

Repair: Cut out and fill cracks with a shrink-free filler first
Coat: An elastomeric Raincoat-type system that is the finish as well as the barrier
Check above: Parapets, sills and terrace outlets — walls get wet from the top

Bought properly, and applied by people who have done it before

Waterproofing is the easiest thing on a site to buy badly — old stock, the wrong tier for the job, or the right product applied at half the specified thickness. Everything we supply moves through our own warehousing with batch and date records intact, and where you want it applied as well as delivered, the same team is accountable for both halves.

Why Space Arc

Why buy Dr. Fixit through us

We will talk you out of the wrong tier

The premium system is not always the right answer, and the cheap one often is not either. Tell us the roof and we will say which one is honest for it.

Genuine, in-date stock

Batch and manufacturing date recorded on the dispatch and the invoice. Waterproofing that has sat through a summer in an open shed is not the product you paid for.

Crews who detail the junctions

We are an authorised applicator as well as a distributor. Corners, drains and penetrations are where these systems fail, and that is where trained crews matter.

Project quantities, not just counter sales

Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad supplied directly, dispatched pan-India.

Straight answers on warranties

The Pidilite warranties are real but conditional. We tell you what a tier requires before you buy it, not after a claim is refused.

Questions, answered

Dr. Fixit — frequently asked

Is Dr. Fixit the same company as Pidilite, and is it still Indian-owned?

Dr. Fixit is a brand of Pidilite Industries Limited, Mumbai — the same company behind Fevicol and M-Seal. Pidilite was founded in 1959, listed on the BSE and NSE in 1993, and the founding Parekh family still controls it. There has been no change of ownership, which is more than can be said for most brands in this sector.

My terrace is leaking. Do I need LW+ or a roof coating? I get told both.

They do different jobs and are not alternatives. Pidiproof LW+ is an integral compound that goes INTO concrete or mortar while it is being cast or plastered, so it only helps on new work. A Roofseal-type coating goes ON a surface that already exists. If your terrace is built and leaking, LW+ cannot help it; you need the surface system, and you need the cracks cut out first.

Can a leaking terrace be fixed without breaking and re-laying it?

Usually yes — that is exactly what the liquid-applied roof systems are for. They go over the existing surface once it has been cleaned and the cracks repaired, so an occupied flat or a working office does not have to be shut down. Breaking up and re-laying is the answer when the screed itself has failed or the falls are wrong and water is ponding.

Is Raincoat just expensive exterior paint? Do I still have to paint afterwards?

No to both. It is a 100% elastomeric waterproof coating applied at roughly double the film thickness of ordinary exterior emulsion, so it bridges hairline cracks — and it is the finish. You do not paint over it. That is why comparing it per litre against emulsion is the wrong sum.

What do the 7, 10 and 12-year warranties actually cover, and who honours them?

Those are Pidilite’s warranties, issued on Pidilite’s terms — not ours. In practice they assume the correct system was used at the specified coverage and film thickness over a properly prepared surface. We will tell you what a given tier requires before you buy it, and we will not promise a warranty on a specification that will not qualify for one.

Is Pidifin 2K or Dampguard safe for a drinking water tank?

Pidilite states that these are CFTRI certified and safe for potable water contact. That is the manufacturer’s certification and we report it as the manufacturer’s claim rather than restating it as our own. If the tank is for a project where this has to be evidenced, ask us and we will get you the current certificate rather than a forwarded screenshot.

Is Dr. Fixit taken seriously on real projects, or is it mainly a home-repair brand?

Both, which is unusual. The consumer advertising is what makes it famous, but the same brand supplies torch-applied APP-modified bitumen membranes, trafficable reinforced coatings and integral admixtures that go into project work. Judge the line, not the television advert.

Do you supply project quantities across Delhi NCR, and can you apply it too?

Yes to both. We are an authorised distributor and applicator based in Ghaziabad, supplying Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad directly and dispatching pan-India. We are not Pidilite and we do not speak for Pidilite — but we do stock the range and we do put crews on site.
