What is it?

A 3-ply, rubber-coated, fleece-lined tape (120mm wide, 25m rolls, grey) that is embedded between two coats of any Dr. Fixit waterproofing product to reinforce the joints a flat membrane can’t handle on its own.

Where is it used?

Bathroom and kitchen wet-area corners, floor-to-wall junctions, balcony and terrace parapets, swimming pool corners and step joints, and pipe entry points — indoors and outdoors, under tiling or exposed coating.

Why use it?

Corners, junctions and penetrations move differently from the flat surface around them, so a rigid waterproof coating tends to hairline-crack exactly at these points first. The tape’s fleece core stretches up to 300% across its width to absorb that movement while staying bonded and watertight, something a coating film alone cannot do reliably.

How is it applied?

Cut to length and pressed crease-free into the wet first coat of a Dr. Fixit waterproofing product, running up to 60mm onto each face of the joint, with runs overlapped by a minimum of 50mm; once cured, a second coat is applied over it extending at least 20mm beyond the tape’s edge.

About Dr. Fixit Corner Joint Tape

Every waterproofing job has a weak point, and it is almost never the flat wall or floor — it is the corner where two planes meet, the junction where a wall meets a slab, or the spot where a pipe punches through a coated surface. These are exactly the places where a rigid, film-forming waterproof coating cracks first, because the two adjoining surfaces move slightly differently under thermal expansion, structural settlement, or vibration, and the coating has nowhere to absorb that difference. Dr. Fixit Corner Joint Tape exists specifically to solve that problem. It is a 120mm-wide, grey, 3-ply fleece-lined tape with a rubber coating, engineered to be strong and dimensionally stable along its length but highly elastic across its width — so it can be handled and positioned without stretching out of shape, then flex with the joint once it is buried in the waterproofing system.

For Space Arc’s applicator teams across Delhi NCR, this tape is a routine but non-negotiable line item on any bathroom, terrace, balcony or pool waterproofing scope. It isn’t sold or used as a standalone product — it goes in wet, sandwiched between the first and second coats of a compatible Dr. Fixit coating like Pidiproof LW+, Raincoat, or Pidifin 2K, at every internal and external corner, wall-floor junction and pipe entry before the flat field gets coated. Done properly, with clean crease-free embedding and correctly overlapped runs, it turns the statistically weakest points of a waterproofing job into some of its most reliable ones. Skipped or rushed, those same corners are usually where a leak shows up first, often years after the rest of the membrane is still performing fine — which is why site teams treat this as a discipline step, not an optional extra.

The technical insight

What makes this tape work is its deliberately anisotropic construction — Pidilite’s data sheet lists a tensile strength of 10 N/mm² lengthwise against just 1.5 N/mm² across the width, and elongation figures that flip the same way: 70% longitudinal versus 300% transverse (ISO 527-3:2018). In plain terms, the tape resists stretching or sagging along its length while it can move freely side to side, which is exactly the behaviour a corner joint needs — dimensional stability during handling and application, and crack-bridging flexibility once it’s buried under a coating that itself has almost none. The fleece lining gives the coating something to key into on both faces, and the rubber coating itself is rated impermeable, with a hydrostatic pressure resistance above 1.5 bar (EN 1928:2000, Method B) — the same class of test used on roofing and below-ground membranes, which is why the tape is confidently specified in submerged conditions like pool corners and not just splash zones.

Where it is used

  • Bathroom and toilet wall-to-wall and wall-to-floor corners before tile-on-waterproofing
  • Kitchen and utility/laundry area wet-zone junctions
  • Balcony and terrace parapet-to-slab junctions on RCC roofs
  • Swimming pool corners and step joints under ceramic cladding
  • Pipe penetrations and floor drains, used with Dr. Fixit Pipe Collar for the round profile
  • Water tank internal corners and wall-base junctions
  • Overlap and stop-end detailing on larger waterproofed terrace decks
  • Inner and outer external wall corners exposed to weather

Key advantages

  • 300% transverse elongation bridges corner cracks that form after the coating has cured
  • 10 N/mm² longitudinal tensile strength keeps the tape taut and in place during embedding, unlike a limp fabric
  • Rubber coating is impermeable, cutting off the lateral water travel that plain fabric-reinforced joints allow
  • Hydrostatic pressure resistance >1.5 bar makes it credible for submerged and below-grade detailing, not just splash zones
  • Chemical resistant, so it holds up in chlorinated swimming-pool water where ordinary tapes degrade
  • Bonds to the full range of Dr. Fixit coatings, so one detailing material works across brush, roller or trowel-applied systems
  • No special tools or equipment needed — scissors or a razor knife and a brush or trowel are enough on site
  • 12-month shelf life from manufacture makes it easy for applicators like Space Arc to keep stock ready for retrofit jobs

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a standalone waterproofing product — it only works sandwiched between two coats of a compatible Dr. Fixit coating; laid dry or used alone it does nothing
  • Fixed 120mm width means wide or irregular junctions need multiple overlapping runs, which adds planning and material wastage if not measured out first
  • Needs a genuinely clean, sound, primed substrate and full cure time between the two coats — rushing this is the most common cause of blistering or edge lift
  • Must stay fully buried under the topcoat and subsequent tiling or screed; it isn’t meant to be left exposed to sunlight or foot traffic
  • On-site failures are almost always detailing errors — creases, skimped overlap, or corners not dressed before the flat field — rather than the tape itself
  • The published tensile and hydrostatic figures are lab results on the tape in isolation; real joint performance still depends on substrate prep and applicator workmanship, which is why Space Arc insists on trained crews for this detail

Selection & best practice

Treat every corner, junction and pipe entry with the tape before waterproofing the flat field — never after. Grind the substrate to a sound, slightly rough finish, fill any bugholes or voids first, and keep the tape completely free of creases as it’s pressed into the wet first coat with a brush, roller or trowel up to 60mm on each face. Overlap adjoining tape runs by at least 50mm, let the first coat cure fully before applying the second, and carry that second coat a minimum of 20mm past the tape’s edge so no fleece is left exposed. Give inner and outer corners extra attention — dress them individually rather than trying to wrap one length around a change of direction — and keep the finished work off foot traffic until the full system has cured.

Industry use cases

Residential renovation

Bathroom and balcony corner retrofits in Delhi NCR apartments, where old grouted joints have started leaking into the slab below and need a proper flashing detail before re-tiling.

Hospitality and institutional wet areas

Hotel and hostel bathroom corners and floor drains that see constant washdown and can’t afford recurring leak call-backs.

Swimming pools and water-retaining structures

Pool corner and step junctions under ceramic tiling, where chlorinated water and permanent submersion rule out ordinary tape products.

Commercial kitchens and laundries

Wet-zone wall-floor junctions in institutional kitchens subject to frequent washdown and standing water.

New construction — terraces and roofs

Parapet-to-slab junctions on new RCC terraces, detailed at the corner-tape stage before the main roof waterproofing coat goes down.

Frequently asked questions

Can Corner Joint Tape be used by itself, without a Dr. Fixit coating?
No. It’s a reinforcement component, not a waterproofing coating in its own right — it has to be embedded between a first and second coat of a compatible Dr. Fixit waterproofing product (Pidiproof LW+, Raincoat, Pidifin 2K and similar) to actually stop water.
Is it suitable for a swimming pool?
Yes — the manufacturer rates it chemical resistant and usable in chlorinated pools, with hydrostatic pressure resistance above 1.5 bar, but the coating system it’s embedded in also needs to be pool-rated, so confirm the full system with your applicator.
How much should tape runs overlap at joins?
A minimum of 50mm, per the manufacturer’s application procedure — anything less risks a weak point at the seam.
How far up the wall or across the floor does the tape need to go?
The tape is placed up to 60mm onto both the vertical and horizontal faces of the corner joint, with the topcoat then extending a further 20mm beyond the tape’s edge on each side.
How much area does one roll cover?
Each roll is 120mm wide by 25 metres long. Actual coverage depends on how many linear metres of corner, junction and pipe entry you’re treating, plus roughly 50mm extra at every overlap — Space Arc can work this out from your site drawing before ordering.
What’s the shelf life, and how should unused rolls be stored?
12 months from the date of manufacture if kept unopened, away from heat and flame, in a cool and dry place.

How we position Dr. Fixit Corner Joint Tape

Corner Joint Tape is a detailing component, not a system on its own, so it’s almost always specified alongside a Dr. Fixit coating — Pidiproof LW+ for concrete-stage waterproofing, Raincoat WPC or Raincoat Classic for roof and terrace topcoats, or Pidifin 2K for bathroom and wet-area systems — and paired with Dr. Fixit Pipe Collar wherever a pipe passes through the treated area. Within the Dr. Fixit range it sits next to Crack-X Shrinkfree, which handles surface-level hairline cracks rather than the movement-prone corners and junctions this tape is built for. There isn’t a genuine like-for-like Fosroc tape equivalent in the same fleece-and-rubber format; Fosroc’s comparable detailing typically runs through liquid-applied fillets and reinforcing strips within its Proofex and Nitoproof membrane systems instead of a pre-fabricated tape, so specifiers choosing between the two brands are really choosing a detailing philosophy — pre-formed tape versus site-formed fillet — rather than swapping one product for another. Space Arc supplies and applies the tape as part of a full Dr. Fixit waterproofing scope across Delhi NCR, so corners get detailed correctly the first time rather than left as the weak point in an otherwise sound membrane.
