Dr. Fixit Prebond DS Tape
The double-sided tape that keeps a Dr. Fixit Prebond HDPE membrane watertight where the sheets meet, at every end lap, cut edge and overlap.
What is it?
A cold-applied, double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive tape with a silicone release liner on both faces, made to bond HDPE pre-applied waterproofing membranes and the concrete poured against them.
Where is it used?
At the end laps, cut edges and overlaps of Dr. Fixit’s Prebond-series HDPE membranes (Prebond, Prebond S, Prebond Pro, Prebond W), typically on basement rafts, retaining walls, podium slabs and tunnels across Delhi NCR and pan-India sites.
Why use it?
A membrane’s field performance is decided at its joints, not its field area; this tape is the manufacturer-matched way to close those joints instead of trusting a generic tape never tested against HDPE film.
How is it applied?
Applied cold by hand: a hot-air gun strips the sand and adhesive coating off a 100 mm band at the lap, the tape is fixed after peeling its liner, the next sheet is dry-aligned, and the joint is roller-pressed firmly.
About Dr. Fixit Prebond DS Tape
Dr. Fixit Prebond DS Tape is the joint-sealing accessory for Pidilite’s Prebond family of pre-applied HDPE waterproofing membranes. It is not a membrane in its own right; it is a cold-applied, pressure-sensitive double-sided tape, protected on both faces by a silicone release liner, used to marry two ends of HDPE membrane sheet, or seal a cut edge, into one continuous waterproof plane before the concrete pour locks everything in place. The adhesive is formulated to key into HDPE film and concrete, a narrower job than a general-purpose tape is built for, since HDPE surfaces are notoriously hard to bond to.
On an Indian basement or podium site, membranes rarely lay down as one unbroken sheet; rolls run out, corners need cutting, pipe sleeves interrupt the run, and every project ends up with metres of lap joints that are only as good as the tape holding them. Prebond DS Tape ships as a 10 cm x 30 m roll and is meant to be used alongside the Prebond, Prebond S, Prebond Pro and Prebond W membranes so contractors are not guessing whether a substitute tape will bond.
The technical insight
Two very different peel-adhesion figures on the datasheet define the tape’s job: 1.25 N/mm to HDPE membrane against 0.5 N/mm to concrete. That gap is the point of the surface-prep step: hot-air-gun stripping of the sand and adhesive coating over a 100 mm band exposes bare HDPE film, because the tape bonds far better there than to a rough concrete face, and the membrane’s own adhesive layer is what ultimately keys into the pour. Skip the stripping and the tape grips a sanded, dusty surface it was never rated for. The -25°C flexibility rating matters more for winter and high-altitude work than a Delhi summer, but it means the joint stays sound in cold weather too.
Where it is used
- Sealing end laps and roll-to-roll joints of Prebond HDPE membranes before concreting
- Closing cut edges on a trimmed membrane roll
- Basement and podium raft waterproofing
- Retaining and shear wall waterproofing before backfill
- Tunnel and metro-box waterproofing under pre-applied membrane systems
- Overlap sealing on water/effluent treatment plant base slabs
- Detailing around penetrations and construction-joint returns
- Site repair of punctures in membrane sheeting before pour
Key advantages
- Adhesive matched to HDPE film, not a generic tape guessing at a hard-to-bond plastic
- Stays flexible without cracking at -25°C
- Double-sided liner on both faces keeps application clean
- No torches or primers needed, only a hot-air gun for prep
- Closes a membrane system’s single weakest point, the joint
- Compact roll is easy to store, cut and carry on site
- Works across the whole Prebond range, so one tape covers most jobs
Limitations & considerations
- Adhesion to concrete (0.5 N/mm) is markedly weaker than to HDPE membrane (1.25 N/mm), so this is a lap-sealer, not a substitute for a full waterstop at high-movement joints
- Bond quality depends heavily on the hot-air-gun surface-prep step
- It is an accessory, not a standalone waterproofing system, and only works within a Prebond membrane layout
- Fixed 100 mm working width means wide details may need extra rolls
- 12-month shelf life depends on storing rolls between +8°C and +35°C, away from moisture and sun
Selection & best practice
Keep the substrate dry and dust-free. Strip exactly 100 mm of sand/adhesive coating off the membrane at every lap using a hot-air gun; this bare-film band is what the tape needs to grip. Peel the liner, dry-fit the next sheet over the bared surface to check alignment, then commit, since repositioning after pressing tears the bond. Finish with a firm roller pass along the full joint to remove trapped air, and keep taped laps out of standing water until the pour locks them in. Store rolls between +8°C and +35°C, shielded from sun and moisture, within the 12-month shelf life.

Industry use cases
Residential & Commercial Basements
Sealing 30 m roll-to-roll end laps of Prebond S membrane under a raft slab so the basement reads as one continuous waterproof layer.
High-Rise Podiums
Closing cut-edge joints around column grids and lift pits on multi-tower Delhi NCR podium decks.
Infrastructure & Metro
Lap-sealing Prebond Pro/W membranes on tunnel boxes and underground utility structures, where joint failure is the most common cause of later leakage.
Retaining & Shear Walls
Sealing vertical membrane overlaps before backfilling, when the joint becomes inaccessible for repair afterward.
Water & Effluent Treatment Structures
Sealing membrane laps on treatment plant base slabs, where a failed joint risks contamination as well as leakage.

How we position Dr. Fixit Prebond DS Tape
Prebond DS Tape is not specified on its own; it’s the accessory that completes a Prebond HDPE membrane job, quoted alongside Prebond, Prebond S, Prebond Pro or Prebond W depending on the grade selected. Within Dr. Fixit’s range there’s no real substitute; the adhesive is built for HDPE film specifically. For teams on a competing membrane system, Fosroc’s Proofex Engage range uses a comparable reinforced bitumen-adhesive detail strip for the same role, a fair comparison on a Fosroc-specified job, though it’s not a drop-in swap onto a Dr. Fixit membrane and would need compatibility confirmed before substituting.
