Dr. Fixit Primo White
The alkali-resistant primer that stops fresh plaster and concrete from undermining your waterproof topcoat before it’s even cured.
What is it?
A single-component, water-based acrylic primer engineered to resist the alkalinity of fresh plaster, poured concrete and asbestos-cement sheets, applied as the coat directly beneath Dr. Fixit’s waterproofing topcoats and exterior paints.
Where is it used?
New RCC parapets, chajjas and sunshades, freshly plastered brick or block walls, poured concrete surfaces, and AC roofing sheets — on both new-construction handovers and repainting jobs over old dark shades.
Why use it?
Fresh cementitious surfaces are highly alkaline and can attack ordinary topcoats from underneath; Primo White resists that alkalinity, seals chalky old paint, and gives the finish coat a bright, opaque, well-bonded base.
How is it applied?
Diluted 50% by volume (2 parts primer to 1 part water) and rolled or brushed onto a saturated-surface-dry substrate at 9-11 sq.m per litre per coat, left to dry 2-3 hours, then top-coated within 30 days.
About Dr. Fixit Primo White
On any waterproofing job the topcoat gets all the attention, but the surface underneath decides whether that topcoat survives its first monsoon. Fresh plaster and poured RCC carry a heavy alkaline charge for months after casting, and if a waterproof coating goes straight onto that raw surface, the alkalinity can attack the paint film from below — showing up within a year or two as peeling, staining, or a chalky bloom. Dr. Fixit Primo White is built to sit between the two: a single-component, water-based acrylic co-polymer primer formulated specifically to resist that alkaline attack while gripping onto porous plaster, poured concrete and even asbestos-cement roofing sheets.
What matters more than the chemistry, on an actual site, is the practicality — it’s a low-VOC, mercury- and lead-free water-based formulation, so applicators can use it on occupied buildings and enclosed balconies without the fumes a solvent-based primer brings. It isn’t a standalone waterproofing product; it’s the prep layer that decides whether the real waterproofing topcoat — whether that’s an elastomeric Raincoat-type coating or a standard exterior emulsion — bonds the way its own data sheet promises, or starts lifting off a chalky, alkaline wall within a season. Space Arc supplies Primo White as the standard companion to Dr. Fixit’s exterior waterproofing topcoat range, and applicators across Delhi NCR typically line-item it on any new-plaster or repaint scope rather than treat it as optional.
The technical insight
The primer’s job is defined by three numbers on its own data sheet: a cross-cut adhesion rating of 5B under ASTM D3359 (the top band on that scale, meaning no flaking along the cut lines at all), a pull-off adhesion strength rated “excellent” under ASTM D4541, and a tensile strength of at least 2.5 N/mm² under ASTM D412. Those aren’t marketing numbers — they’re the tests a specifier would actually ask for before approving a primer on a facade recoat. Alkali resistance itself is checked against SS-500 and SS5 Part E3, Pidilite’s internal methods for simulating prolonged contact with high-pH cementitious substrates. Two operational details matter more than the lab numbers on a real project: the substrate has to be saturated-surface-dry (SSD) before the primer goes on, and new plaster or concrete needs a full 8-week cure before it’s touched at all — skip either step and the adhesion figures above stop being relevant, because the primer is being asked to bond to a substrate it was never tested against.
Where it is used
- Priming freshly plastered brick or block masonry before applying Dr. Fixit’s waterproof topcoats or exterior emulsion paints
- Priming poured/exposed RCC surfaces — parapets, chajjas, sunshades, podium walls — ahead of an elastomeric waterproof coating
- Recoating asbestos-cement (AC) roofing sheets on factory sheds and godowns before a protective topcoat
- Repainting exteriors that are switching from a dark shade to white or a pastel, where the primer blocks show-through
- Sealing chalky, powdery old exterior paint so a new topcoat doesn’t peel within a season
- Priming crack-repaired sections after Crack-X Paste or Pidicrete URP patch work, ahead of the finish coat
- New-construction handover priming on builder/RWA projects before the facade’s first waterproofing cycle
- Priming external-facing bathroom and balcony walls before a water-based waterproofing coating is applied over them
Key advantages
- 5B cross-cut adhesion (ASTM D3359) — the top rating on that scale — so the topcoat above it doesn’t delaminate at the primer line
- Purpose-built alkali resistance for fresh plaster and concrete, which ordinary wall primers aren’t tested for
- Water-based, low-VOC, mercury- and lead-free, so it’s usable on occupied or enclosed sites without solvent fumes
- Fast cycle time — surface-dry in 30 minutes, recoat-ready in 2-3 hours — so priming doesn’t blow out a tight schedule
- High opacity and whiteness cuts down the number of topcoat coats needed to hide a dark base shade
- 50% dilution stretches coverage to 9-11 sq.m/litre/coat, keeping material cost per square metre reasonable
- Available in 1, 4, 10 and 20 litre packs, so a balcony touch-up and a full facade job are covered from one SKU range
- Backed by Pidilite’s pan-India service network and Dr. Fixit’s toll-free technical advisory line
Limitations & considerations
- It’s a primer, not a waterproofing coating in itself — skipping the topcoat leaves the wall unprotected no matter how well the primer is applied
- New plaster/concrete needs a full 8-week cure before priming; there’s no fast-track version for tight handover schedules
- White base only — it can’t be tinted and universal strainers aren’t compatible, so colour-matching happens at the topcoat stage, not here
- Once diluted it must be used within 24 hours, which rules out mixing a large batch for a multi-day job
- The 30-day window between priming and top-coating is firm — leave it exposed longer and the surface needs re-priming
- Application is temperature-sensitive: it needs the surface 10°C or more above dew point and stable conditions, which narrows the working window on a humid Delhi monsoon morning
Selection & best practice
Confirm the plaster or concrete has cured a full 8 weeks and is hard, non-powdery and free of laitance before treating it with a wire brush and a high-pressure water rinse; hose down any algae or fungus with a biocide wash first. Open cracks up to 3mm into a 5mm V-groove and fill with Crack-X Paste, and route anything wider to a polymer-modified mortar with Pidicrete URP before priming starts — Primo White is not a crack filler. Dilute strictly 50% by volume (2:1, primer to water), stir with a low-rpm paddle to a uniform mix, and confirm the wall is saturated-surface-dry, not merely damp, before rolling it on at the rated 9-11 sq.m/litre/coat. Hold the site to the 2-3 hour recoat window and the 30-day topcoat deadline — both are hard limits on the data sheet, not loose guidance — and never let diluted primer sit in the bucket past 24 hours.

How we position Dr. Fixit Primo White
Primo White sits at the start of Dr. Fixit’s exterior waterproofing sequence, not at the end — it’s typically specified alongside Crack-X Paste or Pidicrete URP for crack and surface repair, Feviseal Neutral Pro for frame and joint sealing, and then a topcoat from the Raincoat range (Raincoat Classic or Raincoat WPC) or an exterior emulsion for the finish. It is a distinct product from Dr. Fixit Primo Putty, which is a bonding primer for POP/white-cement-putty interiors rather than an alkali-resistant exterior primer, so the two shouldn’t be swapped. Outside the Dr. Fixit stable, the closest comparison is general-purpose acrylic exterior wall primers from paint majors such as Asian Paints SmartCare or Berger; Fosroc’s construction-chemicals range is stronger on structural repair mortars and waterproofing membranes (its Nitoproof and Renderoc lines) than on this specific alkali-resistant wall-primer category, so specifiers don’t typically substitute a Fosroc product at this particular step — Primo White remains the default choice here.
