Dr. Fixit Tilemaster
Polymer-modified cementitious adhesive (EN 12004 Type C2) that bonds ceramic, vitrified and natural stone tiles far beyond what site-mixed cement slurry can achieve.
What is it?
A factory-blended, polymer-modified cementitious tile adhesive classified Type C2 (normal setting) under EN 12004, built on Portland cement, graded silica aggregate and proprietary polymer modifiers.
Where is it used?
Floor and wall tiling on concrete, masonry and cement render — bathrooms, kitchens, lobbies, terraces, facades and swimming pools, including large-format vitrified tiles.
Why use it?
Tensile adhesion above 1.0 MPa at 28 days (EN 1348), non-sag hold on walls and a 15–20 minute open window for adjustment — eliminating the de-bonding failures common with cement-sand bedding.
How is it applied?
Combed onto a prepared substrate at 4–6 mm with a notched trowel, tiles pressed and twisted into the ribs within open time, with back-buttering to achieve over 85% adhesive contact.
About Dr. Fixit Tilemaster
Dr. Fixit Tilemaster is a polymer-modified cementitious adhesive from the Pidilite stable, designed for fixing ceramic, vitrified porcelain and natural stone — marble, granite, slate, sandstone — on concrete, masonry and cement render. It carries a Type C2 (normal setting) classification under EN 12004, which means it has passed improved-adhesion testing rather than the base C1 grade, and it delivers tensile adhesion above 1.0 MPa at 28 days when tested to EN 1348. For site engineers, that number is the difference between tiles that stay down for the building’s life and the hollow-sounding, popping tiles that plague slurry-fixed work.
Space Arc Engineering supplies Tilemaster to contractors, builders and consultants from Sahibabad, Ghaziabad across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with application support on tile selection, substrate assessment and installation practice. Where a project needs a large-format grade for tiles of 60×60 cm and above, we help match the right variant to the tile and substrate before material reaches site.
The technical insight
Site-mixed cement slurry fails on modern tiles for a simple reason: vitrified tile has water absorption near zero, so cement paste cannot key into the tile back, and shrinkage of a thick sand-cement bed slowly peels the bond apart. Tilemaster attacks both problems chemically. As the mixed adhesive hydrates, its polymer modifiers coalesce into a film threaded through the cement matrix — this film wets the dense tile back that plain cement cannot grip, and gives the hardened bed enough flexibility to absorb the thermal and drying movement that would otherwise shear a rigid bond. The graded silica keeps the 4–6 mm thin bed dimensionally stable, so shrinkage stress stays low. The same polymer chemistry provides non-sag body on walls and holds a workable, tacky surface for 15–20 minutes at 23°C — the open time that lets a mason position, adjust and level a tile before the skin forms.
Where it is used
- Floor tiling with ceramic, vitrified and porcelain tiles on concrete and screeds
- Wall tiling in bathrooms, kitchens and utility areas on cement render
- Large-format vitrified tiles from 60×60 cm up to 120×120 cm (with the large-format grade)
- Natural stone installation — marble, granite, slate and sandstone flooring
- External terrace and balcony tiling over sound, waterproofed substrates
- Swimming pool and water-feature tile fixing over the waterproofing system
- Lobbies, corridors and retail floors where hollow or de-bonded tiles are unacceptable
- Exterior wall tiling where non-sag hold is essential during fixing
Key advantages
- EN 1348 tensile adhesion above 1.0 MPa at 28 days — well beyond typical cement slurry bonds
- Type C2 classification under EN 12004, giving verified improved adhesion, not just a marketing claim
- Non-sag consistency holds wall tiles in place without supports or spacer props
- 15–20 minutes of open time at 23°C for positioning and lippage correction
- Polymer wetting achieves full contact on dense, low-absorption vitrified tile backs
- Thin-bed fixing at 4–6 mm saves dead load and floor height versus 20–40 mm mortar beds
- Factory-batched consistency — no site-mix variation between masons or floors
- Workable pot life of roughly 2–3 hours after mixing, suiting practical batch sizes
Limitations & considerations
- Open time shortens sharply in hot, dry Indian summer conditions — the adhesive can skin over in 7–10 minutes, so spread areas must be kept small
- A C2 normal-setting adhesive without a declared S1/S2 deformability class — not for highly deformable substrates such as plywood, metal decks or unrestrained overlays
- Not a waterproofing product; wet areas and terraces need a proper membrane beneath the tiling system
- Requires a clean, dry, cured substrate — laitance, dust, oil or trapped moisture will defeat any adhesive, this one included
- Moisture-sensitive stones (green marble and similar resin-backed stones) need specialist adhesives; a standard cementitious grade risks staining or warping
- Skipping movement joints voids the benefit — perimeter and field joints at 4–5 m intervals per IS 13630 remain mandatory
Selection & best practice
Substrate preparation decides the outcome. Remove laitance, paint, curing compound and dust mechanically; the surface must be sound, clean and dry — never fix over green or damp concrete unless over a suitable membrane. Mix to a lump-free paste and let it stand briefly before remixing. Comb the adhesive at 4–6 mm bed thickness with a notched trowel — a 6 mm V-notch suits small formats, an 8 mm square-notch suits larger tiles — and spread only what can be tiled within open time; if the ribs have skinned (a dry finger touch tells you), scrape off and re-spread. Back-butter large-format tiles and target more than 85% adhesive contact in line with EN 1347 practice — lift the occasional tile and check. Press and twist tiles into the ribs, correct lippage immediately, and provide movement joints at perimeters and every 4–5 m per IS 13630. Protect fresh work from traffic and grout only after the bed has set.

Industry use cases
Residential & High-Rise
Apartment bathrooms, kitchens and balcony floors where thin-bed fixing cuts dead load on slabs and eliminates the hollow-tile complaints that dominate post-handover snag lists.
Commercial & Retail
Mall corridors, showrooms and office lobbies laying 60×60 cm and larger vitrified formats, where a C2 bond and full back coverage prevent cracked tiles under trolley and footfall loading.
Hospitality & Pools
Hotel wet areas, spa floors and swimming pools — fixed over the waterproofing membrane so the tile bond and the water barrier each do their own job.
Healthcare & Institutional
Hospitals, labs and schools that need dense, joint-disciplined tiled floors with movement joints per IS 13630 to survive thermal cycling and heavy cleaning regimes.
Exterior Facades & Terraces
External wall tiling and terrace decks where non-sag hold, polymer flexibility and correct joint spacing resist the sun-driven expansion that de-bonds slurry-fixed tiles.

How we position Dr. Fixit Tilemaster
Tilemaster is the workhorse C2 adhesive in the Dr. Fixit tiling system we supply. Pair it with Dr. Fixit tile grouts for joint filling — epoxy grout in wet or hygiene-critical areas — and with Dr. Fixit waterproofing membranes beneath bathrooms, terraces and pools, since an adhesive should never be asked to double as a water barrier. Within the same Pidilite family, the Roff range covers projects that specify higher deformability (S1/S2) or rapid-setting grades. Where a consultant’s specification calls for another approved system, Space Arc also stocks the SikaCeram range from Sika and Fosroc’s Nitotile line, plus Sika and Fosroc joint sealants for the movement joints every tiled floor needs. Tell us the tile, the substrate and the exposure — we will match the adhesive class to the job rather than force one product onto every floor.
