What is it?

A two-part elastomeric polyurethane tile adhesive from Sika, classified R2 T to EN 12004-2, made from polyurethane resin and selected quartz rather than cement.

Where is it used?

Fixing natural stone, marble and large-format porcelain onto tricky bases such as heated screeds, plywood, metal, old tiles and countertops that flex or carry moisture.

Why use it?

It stays permanently elastic, resists ageing and chemicals, and cures without shrinkage, so bonds survive substrate movement and thermal cycling that crack rigid cement adhesives.

How is it applied?

Mix Part A and Part B at 92:8 by weight for about three minutes, comb onto the substrate with a notched trowel, then bed and true the tile within the pot life.

About Sika SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T

SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T sits at the specialist end of Sika’s tile-fixing range. Unlike the cement-based (C-class) adhesives that dominate Indian sites, this is a reaction-resin product: a two-component elastomeric polyurethane, supplied as a white resin paste (Part A) and a transparent hardener (Part B) that cure chemically once combined. That chemistry earns it an R2 T classification under EN 12004-2, meaning it is a reaction-resin adhesive with improved performance and no vertical slip during setting. For engineers and applicators, that translates into a bond line that behaves more like a tough, flexible glue than a brittle mortar.

The product exists to solve the failures that cement adhesives cannot. When tiles are laid over surfaces that move, flex or hold residual moisture, a rigid mortar transfers every bit of that stress straight into the tile and grout, and cracks or debonding follow. SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T instead absorbs movement through its permanent elasticity, which is why Sika positions it for heated screeds, timber and metal substrates, worktops, and for natural stone and marble that are sensitive to dampness. It hardens without shrinkage and shows no creep under load, so heavy marble slabs and thin large-format porcelain stay exactly where they were set. For any Delhi NCR or pan-India project where the substrate is the weak link, this is the adhesive specified to de-risk the installation.

The technical insight

The performance comes from the resin system, not from a cement hydration reaction. In a cement adhesive, calcium silicate hydrates set into a hard, effectively inextensible matrix; put that over a substrate that bends or expands and the mismatch in stiffness concentrates stress at the tile edges. SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T uses a polyurethane resin loaded with selected quartz filler that, once Part A and Part B react, forms an elastomeric solid. That cured film has enough elongation to stretch and recover as the base moves, so differential movement is accommodated in the adhesive layer rather than being passed into the ceramic. Because the cure is a chemical crosslinking reaction with no water of convenience to evaporate, the adhesive hardens without shrinkage, which is what lets it hold full contact under large slabs and stops the creep that would let heavy stone sag on a wall. The same crosslinked network gives its wide service window of -20 degrees C to +80 degrees C and its resistance to ageing and chemical attack. The T in the name is the practical payoff on site: the paste is thixotropic, so a heavy tile pressed onto a vertical surface does not slide down before the resin sets.

Where it is used

  • Fixing marble, granite and limestone that are sensitive to moisture and would stain or discolour with cement adhesives
  • Bonding large-format and thin porcelain slabs where full, void-free contact is essential
  • Tiling over heated screeds and underfloor-heating systems that expand and contract in service
  • Installing tiles on deformable or warping bases such as plywood, particleboard and metal
  • Tiling kitchen worktops, countertops and vanity tops that see thermal and mechanical stress
  • Overlaying existing tiles or terrazzo in renovation work without full removal
  • Vertical stone and heavy tile cladding where anti-slip hold during setting is critical
  • Vitreous mosaic and specialty tile installations on demanding substrates

Key advantages

  • Permanently elastic bond line that absorbs substrate movement instead of cracking the tile or grout
  • Hardens without shrinkage, so bonds under heavy marble and large slabs stay in full contact
  • No creep under load, keeping heavy stone panels stable on vertical surfaces
  • Thixotropic paste holds tiles without vertical slip during setting
  • Bonds both absorbent and non-absorbent substrates, including metal, timber and old tiles
  • Resistant to ageing, chemical exposure and a wide -20 to +80 degrees C service range
  • Safe for moisture-sensitive natural stone that cement adhesives would stain
  • Long, workable pot life of around 60 minutes for careful alignment of demanding tiles

Limitations & considerations

  • A two-component reaction resin that costs significantly more than cement adhesives, so it is specified where the substrate genuinely demands it, not for routine tiling
  • Both parts must be accurately mixed at 92:8 by weight and used within the pot life, leaving little margin for casual site batching
  • Supplied in 5 kg sets, which suits targeted or specialist areas rather than very large plain-tile floors
  • Freshly applied adhesive must be protected from rain, direct sun and freezing for 12 to 24 hours
  • As a resin system it needs a clean, sound, dust- and grease-free substrate, and surface preparation is unforgiving
  • Not a replacement for a general-purpose cement C1/C2 adhesive on stable, standard cement or concrete bases

Selection & best practice

Start with the substrate: it must be sound, clean, dry and free of dust, laitance, grease and loose material, because a resin adhesive only performs on a properly prepared surface. Empty the whole of Part B into Part A and mix at 92:8 by weight with a slow-speed drill for about three minutes, scraping the sides of the container so the blend is fully uniform with no unmixed streaks. Comb the mixed paste onto the substrate with the correct notched trowel for the tile size, allowing roughly 2.5 kg/m2 with a 3 mm notch for small tiles and about 4.5 kg/m2 with a 6 mm notch for medium and large formats; for heavy stone and large slabs, back-butter the tile as well to guarantee full contact. Bed and adjust each tile within the pot life, which is around 60 minutes for a 100 g mass at 30 degrees C and shortens as temperature rises, so mix only what the team can lay in that window. Once set, protect the fresh work from rain, direct sun and freezing temperatures for 12 to 24 hours while the resin develops strength, and store unopened packs in dry conditions between +10 and +40 degrees C.

Retail and commercial kitchens

Bonding stone and tile to worktops, counters and metal or plywood surfaces that flex and see heavy mechanical use.

Facade and cladding

Vertical fixing of heavy stone panels where thixotropic, no-creep hold keeps slabs stable during setting and in long-term service.

Frequently asked questions

Is SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T a cement adhesive?
No. Despite the C2T description that has circulated, the official Sika data sheet classifies it as an R2 T reaction-resin adhesive to EN 12004-2. It is a two-component polyurethane system supplied as a resin paste plus a hardener, not a cement powder mixed with water.
When should I choose this over a standard cement tile adhesive?
Choose it when the substrate moves or holds moisture, or the tile is sensitive: heated screeds, plywood, metal, old tiles, countertops, and moisture-sensitive marble or large slabs. On stable cement or concrete with ordinary tiles, a good C1 or C2 cement adhesive is more economical.
What is the mixing ratio and pot life?
Part A and Part B are combined at 92:8 by weight and mixed for about three minutes with a slow-speed drill. Pot life is roughly 60 minutes for a 100 g mass at 30 degrees C, and it shortens in hotter conditions, so mix only what can be laid in that time.
How much do I need per square metre?
Consumption is about 2.5 kg/m2 with a 3 mm notched trowel for small tiles and around 4.5 kg/m2 with a 6 mm notch for medium and large formats. Heavy stone and large slabs should also be back-buttered for full contact, which increases usage.
Will it hold heavy stone on a wall without slipping?
Yes. The paste is thixotropic (the T in its class), so heavy tiles and stone panels pressed onto vertical surfaces do not slide down before the resin sets, and the cured adhesive shows no creep under load.
Does Space Arc supply this in Delhi NCR and pan-India?
Yes. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised distributor and applicator supplying SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T across Delhi NCR and pan-India, and can advise on substrate suitability and quantities for your project.

How we position Sika SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T

SikaCeram-428 Super Bond T is the specialist, reaction-resin option in Sika’s tile-fixing line, reserved for difficult substrates and moisture-sensitive stone. Where the base is a sound, standard cement or concrete floor and the tiles are conventional, a cement-based Sika adhesive from the wider SikaCeram range is the more economical specification, and Sika’s tile grouts and joint sealants complete that system. For projects that already lean on our other brands, MC-Bauchemie and Dr. Fixit also offer cement-based and reactive tile-fixing and jointing products worth comparing on cost and availability. A genuine Fosroc equivalent from our range is not listed at this time, so we have not named one rather than force an inexact cross-sell; talk to Space Arc and we will match the adhesive class to your actual substrate rather than upsell the resin where a cement adhesive would do.
