MC-Bauchemie Zentrival PL (C1T)
A polymer-modified, EN 12004 C1T tile adhesive built to replace the old sand-cement mortar bed with a thinner, stronger, waterproof fix.
What is it?
A ready-to-use, polymer-modified cementitious tile adhesive from MC-Bauchemie, classified C1T under EN 12004 for cementitious adhesives with reduced-slip, standard-flexible performance.
Where is it used?
Bathroom and kitchen tiling, building facades, floors and walls, and fixing mosaic tiles, natural stone, marble, AAC blocks, insulation boards and gypsum boards over sound cementitious substrates.
Why use it?
Its polymer-modified cement matrix delivers roughly 3.5-4 times the bond strength of a conventional mortar bed while staying waterproof and flexible, so tiles hold fast in wet areas and resist popping off with thermal movement.
How is it applied?
Powder is stirred into clean water to a lump-free paste, rested about five minutes, then spread in a thin bed with a notched trowel; tiles are pressed in within the open time and joints are filled the following day.
About MC-Bauchemie Zentrival PL (C1T)
Zentrival PL (C1T) is MC-Bauchemie’s ready-to-use, polymer-modified cementitious tile adhesive, built by blending high-quality cements with polymer raw materials rather than relying on plain site-mixed sand-cement mortar. It’s classified C1T under EN 12004, the European standard family that separates cementitious (C), dispersion (D) and reaction-resin (R) adhesives — the “1” marks it as a standard-grade cementitious adhesive and the “T” denotes reduced slip, meaning tiles stay put on vertical surfaces instead of sliding down before the bed sets. In practical terms, it’s meant to replace the old thick mortar bed with a thin, trowel-applied layer that bonds tile to substrate directly.
For Delhi NCR project sites, the appeal is less about the chemistry and more about what it does on the ground: ordinary mason labour can mix and apply it correctly once trained on the ratio, it skips the pre-wetting step that slows down traditional tiling, and it holds its bond strength in India’s wet-area conditions (bathrooms, kitchens, water tanks) without the strength loss that some lower-grade polymer mortars show over time. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Zentrival PL (C1T) as an authorised MC-Bauchemie distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, with technical support on mixing, trowel selection and substrate prep built in.
The technical insight
The numbers on the TDS translate directly into site confidence. Initial adhesion of 1.29 N/mm² (EN 1348) sits comfortably above what a C1 cementitious adhesive needs to clear, giving headroom rather than a bare pass. Adhesion after water immersion (1.15 N/mm²) is the figure that actually matters for bathrooms and wet decks — it confirms the bond survives sustained wetting rather than just the pre-conditioned lab sample. Adhesion after heat ageing (0.55 N/mm²) shows what’s left after thermal cycling, relevant for facade and terrace tiling under direct sun. Slip under 0.5mm (EN 1308) is what stops a freshly set vertical tile from creeping down the wall before the bed cures, and an open time of at least 20 minutes at 26°C (EN 1346) gives a realistic, if not generous, working window in Indian ambient temperatures — tighter on a hot afternoon, which is why small-batch mixing matters more here than it would in a cooler climate.
Where it is used
- Ceramic, vitrified and porcelain tile fixing in bathrooms, kitchens and utility areas
- Building facade tiling where wind load and thermal cycling demand a flexible bond
- General floor and wall tiling in residential and commercial interiors
- Laying mosaic tiles, natural stone and marble without pre-wetting or iron-staining risk
- Bonding AAC/gas concrete blocks, EPS/polystyrene insulation boards and gypsum boards
- Levelling and repair coat over sound cementitious surfaces ahead of tiling
- Slurry/priming coat on highly absorbent substrates before tile fixing
- Interior, exterior and underwater tiling, including sumps, tanks and wet decks
Key advantages
- Roughly 3.5-4x the bond strength of a conventional sand-cement mortar bed, per the manufacturer’s own comparison
- Non-saponifying formulation — bond strength isn’t lost over time the way it can be with some lower-grade polymer mortars
- Waterproof and resists fungal growth, so it holds up in bathrooms, kitchens and other constantly wet zones
- Thin-bed application (2.7-3.5 kg/m²) cuts material tonnage and dead load versus a 15-20mm mortar bed
- No pre-wetting of tiles, marble or stone needed — saves a labour step and avoids iron-staining on marble
- Around 20 minutes’ open time gives crews a real window to correct tile position before the bed skins over
- Flexible enough to absorb thermal movement, cutting down on the drummy, hollow-sounding tiles that show up later
- Straightforward enough for ordinary site labour to apply correctly once trained on the mix ratio
Limitations & considerations
- C1T is the standard flexible grade, not a high-deformation S1/S2 adhesive — large-format (600mm+) tiles, heavy natural stone, or high-movement substrates such as screed over insulation usually call for a higher grade in MC-Bauchemie’s range instead.
- Working time is short (around 20 minutes at 26°C) — on Delhi’s peak summer days it tightens further, so batches need to be mixed small and used fast rather than left standing on the board.
- Manufacturer-stated shelf life is only 6 months from date of manufacture, shorter than many tile adhesives — worth buying from a stockist that turns inventory quickly and checking the bag date before use.
- It’s a powder that has to be gauged correctly (23-25% water by weight); eyeballing the water addition is a common site error that later shows up as weak bond or surface crazing.
- No matching decorative grout ships with it — joints need a separate product (Zentrival FM), filled only after the adhesive bed has firmed up.
- Like any cementitious adhesive, it will only perform to its tested figures on a sound, clean, properly primed substrate — it isn’t a fix for poor surface preparation.
Selection & best practice
Add the powder to clean water — not water to powder — and mix to a lump-free paste at a 23-25% water-to-powder ratio; let it stand for about five minutes so the polymers hydrate before use, and mix only what a mason can lay within roughly 20 minutes. Comb it on with the right notch trowel: 6mm gives around 2.7 kg/m² coverage for standard tiles, 8mm gives around 3.5 kg/m² for larger-format work. Don’t spread more than about 1.5 sqm ahead of tiling so the bed doesn’t skin over before tiles go in, keep application between +5°C and +35°C, and hold off jointing until the next day once the bed has firmed.

How we position MC-Bauchemie Zentrival PL (C1T)
Within MC-Bauchemie’s own range, Zentrival PL (C1T) is designed to pair with Zentrival FM for joint grouting, and with Nafufill or Putz-Dichtament as a plaster additive when a rough substrate needs a smoothening coat before tiling — both named on the same technical data sheet. For heavier tiling work or large-format formats, ask about MC-Bauchemie’s higher-deformation adhesive grades rather than over-specifying this C1T product. In the broader Indian market, Fosroc’s portfolio leans toward waterproofing, concrete repair, grouts and protective flooring rather than tile adhesives, so it isn’t the natural comparison here; specifiers weighing alternatives to Zentrival PL more commonly evaluate BAL Endura, Roff, Weber India or Laticrete, and Space Arc can talk through the trade-offs against any of these for a specific site and substrate.
