BrandSikaCategoryTile FixingFormA factory-blended, polymer-modified cementitious tile adhesive, graded C1TE to EN 12004-2 and Type-2 ‘T’ to IS 15477…

What is it?

A factory-blended, polymer-modified cementitious tile adhesive, graded C1TE to EN 12004-2 and Type-2 ‘T’ to IS 15477. It reaches the mixing consistency you need with water alone.

Where is it used?

Indoor floors and walls in homes and residential projects — bathrooms, kitchens, balconies, terraces, wet areas, and tile-on-tile work over sound cementitious backgrounds.

Why use it?

It gives a far stronger, more consistent bond than site-batched cement-sand slurry, resists tile slump on walls, and cures on its own without ponding or wet-covering.

How is it applied?

Mix one bag with the stated water, comb onto the substrate with a notched trowel to a 3-5 mm bed, and bed the tile firmly into the wet, tacky adhesive within the open time.

About Sika SikaCeram-125 Easy Fix

SikaCeram-125 Easy Fix is Sika India’s workhorse thin-bed adhesive for everyday residential tiling. It is a dry, pre-formulated blend of Portland cement, graded aggregates, water-retention additives and a redispersible polymer — the polymer is what lifts it above ordinary cement-sand mortar, adding flexibility, wetting-out and grip that a site mix simply cannot match. On the jobsite the crew only adds water, which removes the guesswork of hand-proportioning sand and cement and gives the same reliable mix from the first bag to the last. It is supplied in both grey and white, so it can sit under translucent or light-coloured stone and glass mosaics without shadowing.

For the specifier and contractor, the value is predictability. The product carries a C1TE classification under EN 12004-2:2017 and conforms to IS 15477-2019 as a Type-2 ‘T’ adhesive, meaning it is an improved cementitious adhesive with extended open time and reduced slip that has been independently characterised rather than assumed. Because it is self-curing, it holds its own moisture for hydration, so there is no need to keep the bed damp — a real advantage on vertical faces and in occupied buildings. It is engineered specifically for indoor use over absorbent and partly absorbent backgrounds; it is not the product for external facades, submerged tanks or metal, timber and old external tile substrates, which need a higher-grade or specialised adhesive.

The technical insight

The performance comes from two mechanisms working together. First, the redispersible polymer forms a flexible film around the cement matrix as the adhesive cures, which raises tensile adhesion and lets the bond absorb the small movements and thermal cycling a floor or wall sees — the tested dry bond of roughly 1.33 N/mm2 is well above the 0.5 N/mm2 the standards demand. Second, the water-retention additives hold mixing water inside the bed long enough for the cement to hydrate fully even against thirsty, absorbent substrates that would otherwise pull water out of a plain mortar and starve it of strength. That same water-retention chemistry is why the product is self-curing and why it keeps an open time beyond 20 minutes: the surface stays live and wettable, so tiles knock in cleanly and the crew keeps a workable rhythm. The T-class (no-slip) rating reflects a thixotropic body that stays put on a vertical wall — measured slip is around 0.25 mm against a 0.5 mm limit — so tiles do not sag while the bed sets.

Where it is used

  • Fixing ceramic, vitrified and earthenware tiles on indoor floors and walls
  • Bathroom and wet-area wall and floor tiling in homes and apartments
  • Kitchen splashbacks, counters and floors
  • Balconies and covered terraces in residential settings
  • Tile-on-tile overlays over existing sound indoor tiling
  • Small to medium format tiles over cementitious screed, concrete and plaster
  • Light-coloured and translucent tile or glass mosaic work using the white grade
  • Residential renovation and fit-out projects needing a consistent bagged adhesive

Key advantages

  • Only water is added on site, so the mix is consistent bag to bag with no hand-proportioning
  • Delivers a stronger, more durable bond than conventional cement-sand mortar
  • T-class no-slip body holds tiles on vertical walls without sagging
  • Self-curing chemistry removes the need to keep the bed wet after tiling
  • Open time beyond 20 minutes gives crews a comfortable working window
  • Long pot life of at least 90 minutes reduces wasted, part-set material
  • Dual-certified to EN 12004-2:2017 (C1TE) and IS 15477-2019 (Type-2 ‘T’)
  • Available in grey and white and in 20 kg and 40 kg bags to suit site scale

Limitations & considerations

  • Rated for indoor use only — not for external facades or continuously wet exteriors
  • Not to be applied to metal, timber or old external ceramic tiles
  • A C1 adhesive is not suited to large-format or heavy stone tiles, which need a C2 grade
  • Calcium sulphate, gypsum and anhydrite substrates require a separate primer first
  • Cementitious substrates must be cured and dried (2-6 weeks) before tiling
  • Minimum 3 mm bed thickness must be maintained; it is a thin-bed, not a levelling, product

Selection & best practice

Start with a sound, clean, dry background — cementitious screeds and concrete should be cured 2 to 6 weeks, and all dust, laitance, oil and loose material must be removed, with smooth surfaces lightly roughened. Prime gypsum, anhydrite and calcium-sulphate substrates (for example with SikaCeram-935 Floor Leveler Primer diluted 1:1) and keep their moisture below 0.5 percent. Mix at the stated water ratio — about 4.8-5.2 litres per 20 kg grey bag — to a lump-free paste, let it mature for roughly 5 minutes and remix before use. Comb onto the substrate with the flat side then a square-notched trowel to a 3-5 mm bed sized to the tile, and for tiles over 900 cm2 (30 x 30 cm and up) always back-butter for full contact. Bed each tile into wet, tacky adhesive with firm pressure or a rubber mallet and adjust within about 25 minutes; if a skin has formed, scrape that adhesive off and lay fresh material. Clean joints and tile faces before the adhesive dries. Respect the waiting times before loading — 4-6 hours before grouting walls, 24-36 hours before grouting or walking on floors, and around 21 days before water immersion.

Frequently asked questions

Is SikaCeram-125 Easy Fix suitable for outdoor or facade tiling?
No. It is certified and formulated for indoor use over absorbent backgrounds. External facades, sun-and-rain exposure and submerged conditions call for a higher-grade C2 adhesive, and the datasheet specifically warns against metal, timber and old external ceramic tiles.
How much area does one 20 kg bag cover?
It depends on tile size and bed thickness. As a guide for the grey grade, consumption runs about 3.0-3.5 kg/m2 at a 3 mm bed, so a 20 kg bag covers roughly 6 square metres of small tiles; heavier 4-5 mm beds for larger tiles cover proportionately less. Always confirm with a trial area.
Can I use it for large-format or heavy stone tiles?
It is designed for small and medium ceramic and vitrified tiles. For large-format tiles, heavy natural stone or demanding substrates, step up to a C2-class Sika adhesive; and for tiles over 30 x 30 cm, always back-butter for full contact even within its range.
Does it need curing or ponding after fixing?
No. It is self-curing — the water-retention chemistry holds enough moisture for the cement to hydrate, so you do not need to keep the bed damp. Simply respect the waiting times before grouting and loading.
What is the difference between the grey and white grades?
Chemically they perform the same. The white grade is used under translucent, light-coloured or glass mosaic tiles to avoid a grey shadow bleeding through, and it takes slightly more water per bag. Choose grey for standard opaque tiling.
How soon can the tiled area be grouted and used?
Under standard conditions, walls can be grouted after 4-6 hours and floors after 24-36 hours, which is also when they become walkable. Full water immersion should wait around 21 days. Warmer weather shortens these times and cooler weather lengthens them.

How we position Sika SikaCeram-125 Easy Fix

SikaCeram-125 Easy Fix sits at the C1 entry point of Sika’s tile-fixing range — the right, cost-effective choice for standard indoor ceramic and vitrified work. When a project pushes past its envelope, move up within the same Sika family: choose a C2-class SikaCeram adhesive for large-format tiles, heavy natural stone or more demanding substrates, and pair the installation with a Sika tile grout for a matched, single-source wet-area system; on gypsum or calcium-sulphate backgrounds, prime first with SikaCeram-935 Floor Leveler Primer. If a client is standardising on a different brand, the closest equivalents are the Fosroc Nitotile family (the C1-class Nitotile GP/C1 Fix for like-for-like work, stepping up to a C2 Nitotile grade for large or heavy tiles) — useful where a specification is already written around Fosroc. As authorised distributors across Delhi NCR and pan-India, Space Arc Engineering can supply the correct grade for the exact tile, substrate and exposure rather than defaulting to a one-size adhesive.
