Dr. Fixit NB Coat
Bitumen-Based Waterproofing Coating for Below-Grade Foundations and Retaining Walls
Authorized Project Distributor — Dr. Fixit by Pidilite | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Dr. Fixit NB Coat is a solvent-based, rubberised bitumen waterproofing compound manufactured by Pidilite Industries for the waterproofing of below-grade concrete and masonry building elements including foundations, basement walls, retaining structures, and buried service ducts. It is applied cold by brush or roller to the external face of the concrete or masonry substrate below ground level before backfilling, providing a tough, black, flexible coating that resists groundwater penetration and soil moisture migration into the building structure. The rubber modification of the bitumen binder gives NB Coat a significantly improved flexibility and elongation at break compared to plain oxidised bitumen coatings, enabling the cured coating to accommodate minor substrate movement and hairline cracking without splitting and creating water paths. This rubber-modified flexibility maintains the waterproof integrity of the coating over the temperature range experienced by buried below-grade elements — from the cold January ground temperatures in northern India to the much warmer soil temperatures at shallow depths during summer, where plain bitumen coatings can soften and flow down vertical walls. NB Coat is a widely used, economical, and effective below-grade waterproofing solution for standard residential and commercial building foundations across India. Its cold-applied, brush-on application format makes it accessible to general contractors and mason teams without specialist waterproofing equipment or skills. After application and curing, NB Coat must be protected from physical damage during backfilling by a drainage board, protection sheet, or lean concrete layer, as the relatively soft bitumen coating can be damaged by sharp stone aggregate during backfill compaction. Space Arc Engineering supplies Dr. Fixit NB Coat for residential and commercial building foundation waterproofing, basement wall treatment, and below-grade structure protection throughout Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.
Applications
- Foundation wall and strip footing external face waterproofing — below finished ground level
- Basement retaining wall external face coating before backfilling
- Buried service duct, cable trench, and utility vault waterproofing
- Pile cap and ground beam external waterproofing below ground
- Plinth beam and plinth wall damp-proof course treatment
- Buried culvert and stormwater pipe joint waterproofing
Key Advantages
- Cold-applied by brush or roller — no heating or torching, accessible to general contractors
- Rubber-modified bitumen — flexible coating accommodates minor movement and hairline cracking
- Good adhesion to concrete and masonry without primer on most substrates
- Black colour — easy to verify uniform coverage during application, no holidays
- Economical below-grade waterproofing solution for standard residential and commercial construction
- Effective moisture and groundwater barrier for normal soil conditions

Frequently Asked Questions
How many coats of Dr. Fixit NB Coat are required for a typical residential basement wall and what is the drying time between coats?
For a typical residential basement wall in Delhi NCR that will be backfilled against compacted earth with a groundwater table that rises during the monsoon season, the recommended Dr. Fixit NB Coat specification is a two to three coat application as follows. Surface preparation: the concrete or brick masonry surface must be clean, dry, and free of all formwork release agent residue, oil, grease, dust, and loose material. Fill all honeycombing, blowholes, and surface voids in the concrete with cement mortar before NB Coat application — voids in the concrete cause thin spots and pinholes in the bitumen coating. Allow the concrete to cure for a minimum of 7 days and to reach a surface-dry condition before NB Coat application — wet concrete prevents the solvent-based bitumen from forming a proper bond and may cause the coating to bubble or blister. Coat 1: apply NB Coat by stiff bristle brush or short-nap roller uniformly over the entire wall face at a coverage of approximately 0.5 to 0.7 kg per m2. Apply in long vertical strokes to achieve a uniform wet film without holidays. Pay particular attention to the base of the wall at the wall-footing junction, pipe penetrations, and any wall corners. Allow Coat 1 to dry until it is touch-dry and no longer tacky — typically 2 to 4 hours at 30 degrees C in shade (longer in cool or humid weather). The coat changes from wet and shiny to a dry matt black surface when ready for recoating. Coat 2: apply the second coat at the same coverage rate in the opposite direction (horizontal strokes if first coat was vertical) to ensure full coverage and eliminate any holidays from the first coat. Allow to dry as for Coat 1. Coat 3 (recommended for high groundwater or long service life): apply a third coat at 0.3 to 0.5 kg per m2 for maximum waterproofing reliability. Total consumption approximately 1.3 to 1.7 kg per m2 over three coats.
