Sika Igolflex 1K
One-Component Polymer-Bitumen Waterproofing Slurry for Below-Grade Concrete and Masonry
Authorized Project Distributor — Sika India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Sika Igolflex 1K is a one-component, polymer-modified bitumen (PMB) emulsion waterproofing and protective coating for below-grade building elements including basement walls, foundation walls, retaining structures, and buried concrete surfaces. It is supplied as a ready-to-use black viscous paste that requires no mixing of components and no heating or torching — the one-component formulation is simply applied by brush, roller, or spray to the prepared substrate in two or more coats to build a flexible, waterproof, elastic bitumen membrane. The polymer modification of the bitumen gives Sika Igolflex 1K superior flexibility and elongation at break compared to unmodified bitumen products — the cured membrane can accommodate minor movement and hairline cracking in the substrate without splitting or delaminating. The cured Sika Igolflex 1K coating provides excellent resistance to groundwater, soil chemicals, sulfates, and root penetration — all critical requirements for waterproofing of below-ground construction in the diverse soil conditions of the Delhi NCR and Ganga plains regions of Uttar Pradesh. Unlike torch-applied bitumen membranes (which require heating equipment, LPG torches, and hot-work permits), Sika Igolflex 1K is applied cold with standard brushes or rollers, making it accessible to general contractors and small applicator teams without specialist torching skills. It is ideal for waterproofing foundation walls on small to medium residential and commercial projects, retaining walls, buried service structures, and plantation box undersides. Sika Igolflex 1K must be protected from physical damage by a drainage board, protection sheet, or lean concrete layer before backfilling, as the cured bitumen coating is soft and can be damaged by sharp aggregate during backfill compaction. Space Arc Engineering supplies Sika Igolflex 1K for residential and commercial building foundations, retaining wall waterproofing, and below-grade structure protection throughout Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.
Applications
- Basement and foundation wall waterproofing — below-grade concrete and block masonry
- Retaining wall waterproofing — external face protection against groundwater and soil moisture
- Buried service duct and utility vault waterproofing
- Planter box and podium slab undersides — root and water penetration protection
- Bridge abutment and pier waterproofing below ground level
- Pile cap and ground beam waterproofing before backfilling
Key Advantages
- One-component ready-to-use — no mixing, no heating, no torching or LPG equipment required
- Cold-applied by brush or roller — accessible to general contractors without specialist skills
- Polymer-modified — flexible crack-bridging membrane, superior to standard unmodified bitumen
- Resistant to groundwater, sulfates, and root penetration — full below-grade protection
- Fast application over large areas — more productive than sheet membrane on complex wall shapes
- Good adhesion to concrete, masonry, and render without primer on most substrates

Frequently Asked Questions
How should Sika Igolflex 1K be applied and how many coats are required to achieve waterproofing against normal groundwater pressure on a basement wall?
Sika Igolflex 1K is applied to below-grade concrete or masonry walls in the following sequence for normal groundwater pressure applications (hydrostatic head up to 3 to 5 m). Surface preparation: the substrate must be sound, clean, and free of loose material, efflorescence, oil, and grease. Remove all formwork release agent residue from concrete walls by water jetting or mechanical means. Fill all honeycombing, blowholes, and voids with a cement mortar or Sika repair mortar before applying Sika Igolflex 1K — voids create thin spots and holidays in the coating. Pre-wet the concrete surface (concrete is porous and absorbs water from the coating rapidly on dry days, leaving insufficient water for emulsion film formation). Coat 1: apply Sika Igolflex 1K liberally with a stiff brush or short-nap roller at a coverage rate of approximately 1.0 to 1.5 kg per m2. The coating must be applied uniformly without holidays, thin areas, or runs. Pay particular attention to corners (internal wall-floor joints), construction joints, pipe penetrations, and formwork tie holes — these are the high-risk areas for water ingress and need extra Sika Igolflex 1K thickness at these details, often reinforced with a scrim fabric pressed into the first wet coat. Allow Coat 1 to cure until the surface changes from wet (shiny black) to dry (matt black) — typically 4 to 8 hours at 25 degrees C. Coat 2: apply a second coat at the same coverage rate (total minimum 2.0 to 2.5 kg per m2 for two coats) in the opposite direction to the first coat to minimise the risk of holidays at the same locations. For high groundwater pressure applications, apply a third coat for a total of 3.0 to 3.5 kg per m2. Allow full cure (minimum 48 hours at 25 degrees C) before applying protection board and backfilling.
