Dr. Fixit Mouldshield is a specialty waterproof and anti-fungal wall coating from Pidilite Industries formulated to address one of the most common building defect complaints in Indian residential and commercial properties — persistent mould growth, fungal staining, and biological discolouration on interior walls and ceilings in bathrooms, kitchens, basements, corridors, and any other area where chronic dampness or condensation creates conditions for biological growth. Mouldshield combines a waterproof acrylic polymer binder that seals the wall surface against the moisture transmission that sustains mould colonies with biocidal active ingredients that inhibit the germination and growth of mould, fungi, and algae on the coating surface. The dual action addresses both the cause (moisture at the wall surface) and the symptom (fungal and mould organisms) in a single product application. In Indian buildings, mould growth on interior walls is driven by a combination of factors that are particularly prevalent in Delhi NCR and UP: incomplete or failed exterior wall waterproofing allowing rain or ground moisture to saturate the wall and migrate to the interior surface; lack of vapour barriers and adequate ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens leading to persistent surface condensation; and high ambient humidity during the monsoon season (June to September) sustaining mould growth even on walls that are only slightly damp. Once established, mould colonies are very difficult to remove permanently with paint alone because standard paints have no biocidal activity and the mould quickly grows back through the new paint layer within one to two monsoon seasons. Mouldshield prevents this regrowth by incorporating persistent biocides in the coating film.
