What is it?

A ready-to-use, water-based acrylic emulsion curing compound sprayed or brushed onto freshly cast concrete, where it dries into a seamless, UV-resistant membrane.

Where is it used?

Bridge decks, canal linings, airport pavements, dams, roof slabs, retaining walls, and any overhead or hard-to-reach concrete where repeat water curing isn’t practical on site.

Why use it?

It seals in the capillary water concrete needs to hydrate properly, cuts down shrinkage cracking, and removes the daily labour of water spraying, hessian covering or plastic sheeting for 28 days.

How is it applied?

Sprayed with a knapsack or motorised sprayer, or brushed on, as soon as the surface water sheen disappears — usually within about 30 minutes of finishing — at 200 to 250 grams per square metre.

About MC-Bauchemie Emcoril AC W

Curing is the part of concreting that gets skipped most often on Indian sites, and it’s usually the reason a slab shows shrinkage cracks or a bridge deck starts dusting within a year. The logic is simple: fresh concrete needs its mix water to stay put long enough for cement to hydrate fully, but under Delhi NCR’s summer sun and dry winds that water evaporates from the capillaries within hours of finishing. Traditional wet curing — daily water spraying, wet hessian, plastic sheeting — works, but it needs 28 days of site labour, a reliable water supply, and access to every square metre, which is rarely realistic on a bridge soffit, a cooling tower shell, or a canal lining fifty kilometres from the nearest tanker.

Emcoril AC W is MC-Bauchemie’s answer to that gap: a ready-to-use, acrylic-emulsion-in-water curing compound that’s sprayed or brushed on once, right after the water sheen leaves the surface, and forms a seamless film that locks moisture into the concrete for the critical early-hydration window. It’s ASTM C309 compliant, doesn’t interfere with cement’s normal set, and — unlike older wax-based curing compounds that need scraping or acid-etching off before the next coat — most plasters and standard coating systems can go straight over it without extra prep. Space Arc supplies and applies Emcoril AC W across Delhi NCR infrastructure and building sites where water access, labour, or overhead geometry make conventional curing a liability rather than a formality.

The technical insight

The product works by film formation: the acrylic emulsion coalesces into a continuous, translucent-white membrane as it dries, physically blocking capillary water from evaporating out of the fresh concrete. MC-Bauchemie’s own data puts minimum water retention at 0.40 kg/m² over 72 hours (tested to ASTM C156 and AASHTO T155) — the standard benchmark for judging whether a curing compound actually holds water in, not just looks like it does. The white pigment isn’t cosmetic either: reflectance is rated above 80% under ASTM E97, which keeps the concrete surface cooler and reduces the thermal-gradient cracking that dark, sun-baked slabs are prone to. A useful practical detail is the self-healing behaviour over hairline micro-cracks in the membrane itself, meaning minor foot traffic or light damage during the curing period doesn’t compromise performance the way a torn hessian sheet would.

Where it is used

  • Bridge decks, piers and flyovers exposed to direct sun and wind
  • Canal linings, dam faces and other irrigation structures with limited site water access
  • Airport runways, taxiways, motorways and port pier slabs
  • Roof decks, podium slabs and exposed RCC roofs ahead of plastering or waterproofing
  • Retaining walls and other large vertical or sloped pours
  • Overhead and inaccessible concrete — chimneys, cooling towers, silos
  • Sites where 28 days of continuous water curing isn’t logistically feasible
  • Areas where early plastering is planned soon after casting

Key advantages

  • Single-coat application replaces weeks of repeat water curing, cutting site labour significantly
  • ASTM C309-compliant film protects hydration from the earliest, most critical stage
  • Minimum water retention of 0.40 kg/m² over 72 hours, verified to ASTM C156/AASHTO T155
  • Reflectance above 80% (ASTM E97) keeps cured concrete cooler and reduces thermal cracking risk
  • Self-healing over hairline membrane micro-cracks, with no removal needed before most plasters or coatings
  • UV-resistant formulation suited to exposed structures under intense Indian sun
  • Practical for overhead and hard-to-reach curing — chimneys, soffits, cooling towers — without scaffolding-heavy water curing
  • White translucent finish doubles as a QC aid, since missed patches are visible and can be re-sprayed on the spot

Limitations & considerations

  • Must not be applied over standing water or before the surface water sheen has disappeared
  • Reactive resin toppings such as epoxy or polyurethane need a site adhesion trial first — compatibility isn’t automatic
  • Acts as a surface curing membrane only; it doesn’t substitute for internal curing measures on very large mass-concrete pours
  • 9-month shelf life from manufacture means drums need proper stock rotation on long-running projects
  • Actual consumption swings with wind speed and spray equipment, so under-application can undercut the rated water-retention performance
  • Costs more per square metre than plain water curing, though the labour savings usually offset this on larger jobs

Selection & best practice

Apply Emcoril AC W as soon as the water sheen leaves the surface — ideally within 30 minutes, sooner in hot, windy weather — and never over standing water or concrete still trapped under wet shuttering. Use a knapsack or motorised sprayer held 0.7 to 1.0 m from the surface with steady pump pressure for a fine, even mist, or brush it on for smaller or awkward areas; the white translucent film makes missed patches easy to spot and re-coat before it sets. If epoxy, polyurethane or another reactive resin system is planned as a later finish, run a small adhesion trial first rather than assuming the membrane can be coated over directly. Store unopened pails and drums away from direct sun, rain, heat and frost, and use within the 9-month shelf life from manufacture.

Industry use cases

Highway & Bridge Infrastructure

Curing exposed bridge decks and pier caps through Delhi-NCR summer heat without daily water-tanker runs to site.

Airports & Ports

Runway, taxiway and port pier slabs where the area involved and the construction schedule rule out conventional wet curing.

Irrigation & Dams

Canal linings and dam faces on remote sites where reliable curing-water supply is the real constraint, not the concrete mix.

Commercial & Residential Roofs

Exposed RCC roof decks and podium slabs that need early plastering or waterproofing to follow soon after casting.

Industrial & Tall Structures

Chimneys, cooling towers and silos, where overhead and inaccessible geometry makes scaffolding-based water curing impractical.

Frequently asked questions

Can Emcoril AC W be applied to concrete still under formwork?
Apply it after the shuttering comes off, not before. Wet the surface thoroughly once the formwork is removed, then spray or brush the compound on — it isn’t intended for use against standing water trapped by the formwork.
Do we need to remove the membrane before plastering or flooring?
No. Standard plaster and coating systems can generally be applied directly over Emcoril AC W without extra surface preparation. Reactive resin systems like epoxy or polyurethane are the exception — trial a small patch first to confirm adhesion.
How is this different from a wax-based curing compound?
Wax-based compounds usually need mechanical abrasion or acid etching before the next finish goes on. This acrylic-emulsion membrane is formulated to stay compatible with most subsequent plasters and coatings without that extra step.
What coverage should we budget for a large deck pour?
The data sheet lists 200–250 g/m², but real-world consumption shifts with wind and the spraying equipment used. Space Arc runs a trial-spray panel on site before finalising drum quantities on larger orders.
Is this suitable for peak Delhi-NCR summer pours where the surface dries within the hour?
Yes, that’s the exact condition it’s built for. The key is timing — get it on as soon as the water sheen disappears, ideally within about 30 minutes, so the film forms before evaporation gets ahead of it.
What pack sizes does Space Arc stock for site delivery?
30 kg pails for smaller pours and touch-up work, and 230 kg drums for larger infrastructure and roof-deck jobs. Tell us the area you’re curing and we’ll work out the right split.

How we position MC-Bauchemie Emcoril AC W

Within the MC-Bauchemie range on Space Arc, Emcoril AC W is best read as the curing step that follows the mix, not a standalone product. Projects using MC-Bauchemie’s Centrament range of admixtures for the concrete mix itself — water reducers and superplasticisers like Centrament 100 or Centrament Flow 100 — get a consistent, single-brand system from batching through to curing when Emcoril AC W is specified for the same pour. For structures that need repair work before or after their service life, MC-Bauchemie repair mortars such as MC-Crete 200/120 or MC-Nafufill N are natural companions, since freshly placed repair mortar needs exactly the same curing discipline as new concrete. Where a project is speced against a different brand or the buyer wants a second quote, Fosroc’s Concure WB is a genuine equivalent — a water-based, white-pigmented curing membrane built for the same job on slabs, pavements and infrastructure pours; the choice between the two usually comes down to existing spec compatibility or brand preference rather than a meaningful performance gap.
