Dr. Fixit Prebond SS Tape
The sanded, single-sided HDPE tape that keeps Dr. Fixit Prebond membrane joints, corners and repairs watertight.
What is it?
A cold-applied, single-sided HDPE tape with a sand-finish, pressure-sensitive adhesive face and a peel-off release liner, made as the detailing and repair accessory for the Dr. Fixit Prebond family of pre-applied HDPE waterproofing membranes.
Where is it used?
Basement rafts, podium slabs, pile caps, pressure-relief pipe collars and retaining walls, wherever a Dr. Fixit Prebond HDPE membrane is laid ahead of a concrete pour.
Why use it?
A membrane roll alone leaves corners, welded seams and accidental punctures as weak points; Prebond SS Tape recreates the membrane’s own sand-faced, mechanically-keyed bond at exactly those details.
How is it applied?
Clean and fully dry the substrate, peel the release liner, and press the sanded face firmly against the area to be cast against, working out air pockets with a small silicone or steel roller before concreting.
About Dr. Fixit Prebond SS Tape
Dr. Fixit Prebond SS Tape is not a general-purpose waterproofing tape — it’s the detailing accessory Pidilite built specifically for its own Prebond family of pre-applied HDPE membranes (Prebond S, Prebond R, Prebond Pro and Prebond-W). The tape mirrors the membrane’s own construction: a bare HDPE film carries a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, and the exposed face gets a sand finish so it bonds mechanically into wet concrete the same way the parent membrane does, rather than relying purely on a glue bond that concrete can eventually work loose from. That single-sided, sand-finish build is what lets it repair a membrane tear or reinforce a welded joint without creating a different kind of interface at that point.
On an Indian basement or podium pour, this matters most at the details a membrane roll can’t cover on its own — internal and external corners, pile caps, pressure-relief pipe collars, and the odd puncture from rebar or site traffic before the pour goes in. Prebond SS Tape is cold-applied — no torch or hot-air gun is needed to stick it down, only to strip a damaged area first — stays crack-free down to -25°C per ASTM D1970, and posts a peel adhesion of 1.0 N/mm to the membrane under ASTM D1876. It comes as a narrow, 100mm-wide roll, so it’s built for detailing and patching rather than sealing broad membrane overlaps; that job belongs to its sibling, Prebond DS Tape.
The technical insight
The detail worth understanding is the sand layer. Ordinary adhesive tapes rely on tack alone — a glue-to-substrate bond that hydrostatic pressure and thermal movement can gradually work loose over the life of a basement. Prebond SS Tape instead presents a sanded HDPE face to the wet concrete, the same mechanism Pidilite builds into the whole Prebond membrane line: cement paste keys into the sand texture as it cures, giving a mechanical interlock rather than a pure adhesive joint. That is also why Pidilite’s own technical data reports peel adhesion in N/mm against the membrane, not against bare concrete — the tape is engineered and tested as part of the Prebond membrane system, not as a stand-alone product.
Where it is used
- Repairing punctures or tears in installed Dr. Fixit HDPE waterproofing membrane sheets
- Detailing internal and external corner joints during Prebond membrane installation
- Reinforcing hot-air-welded seams between adjoining membrane rolls
- Sealing membrane collars around pile caps and pressure-relief pipe penetrations
- Patching membrane overlaps where the factory adhesive edge has been damaged on site
- Terminating membrane edges at construction joints and stop-ends
- Detailing around rebar couplers and other penetrations before concreting
- Emergency site repairs to membrane during raft or podium pours
Key advantages
- Sanded face gives the same mechanical, cement-keyed bond as the parent HDPE membrane, so a repaired area isn’t a weaker point
- Cold-applied — no torch or naked flame at the adhesion step, and a hot-air gun is only needed to strip damaged membrane before patching
- Bonds to PVC, metal and concrete as well as HDPE, useful at pile caps, sleeves and pipe collars, not just membrane-to-membrane
- Stays crack-free down to -25°C per ASTM D1970, well beyond what North Indian winter pours demand
- Peel adhesion of 1.0 N/mm to the membrane (ASTM D1876) gives a genuine mechanical hold, not just surface tack
- Release-liner backing keeps rolls clean and quick to unroll on a busy raft-slab pour
- Compact 100mm-wide roll is easy for site crews to carry and cut to length for detailing work
- 12-month shelf life gives contractors working buffer on phased basement or podium projects
Limitations & considerations
- Will not adhere if moisture or standing water is present on the substrate — a real constraint on basements with active seepage or a monsoon-affected pour
- Not a stand-alone waterproofing course; its published performance is tied to use with a Dr. Fixit Prebond membrane, not as an independent barrier
- Only 100mm wide, so wider tears or large penetrations need multiple overlapping strips and more site labour
- Hot-air gun use is limited to stripping damaged membrane before patching, not the tape’s own adhesion — a distinction site crews can get wrong
- Pidilite’s published data sheet lists only two test properties (cold flexibility and peel adhesion); thickness, tensile strength and elongation figures aren’t disclosed, so full data needs to come through Pidilite technical support
- Single-sided construction means it isn’t the right tape for joining two membrane sheets edge-to-edge — that’s the job of Prebond DS Tape
Selection & best practice
Treat surface preparation as the real skill, not the taping itself. Whatever the substrate — cut-back membrane, a pile cap, or a PVC sleeve — it has to be genuinely dry and free of dust, oil and grease; Pidilite is explicit that residual moisture stops the tape bonding altogether, which rules out patching during active seepage or straight after rain. Where you’re repairing a damaged membrane, mark the area, strip the old sand and adhesive back with a scraper and hot-air gun, then apply the fresh tape with its sanded face against the concrete side and finish with a silicone or steel roller to chase out air pockets. Keep unused rolls off the slab and out of direct sun until they’re needed — heat and moisture exposure before application eat into the tape’s working life faster than its 12-month shelf life suggests.

How we position Dr. Fixit Prebond SS Tape
Prebond SS Tape belongs to Pidilite’s wider Prebond system — the same family as the Prebond S, Prebond R, Prebond Pro and Prebond-W pre-applied HDPE membranes, and its double-sided sibling Prebond DS Tape, which handles sheet-to-sheet overlaps rather than repairs and corner detailing. Space Arc supplies and installs the Prebond range as one warrantied system rather than mixing detailing accessories across brands. On projects that have already standardised on Fosroc’s competing pre-applied HDPE membrane, Proofex Engage, for the same blindside or raft application, the matching detail tape should come from Fosroc too — detailing tapes are engineered and warrantied per membrane system, not interchangeable across brands.
Fosroc Proofex Engage — If a basement is being tanked with Fosroc’s own Proofex Engage pre-applied membrane system rather than Dr. Fixit Prebond, a specifier should detail it with Fosroc’s matching Proofex Engage Detail Strip instead of Prebond SS Tape, since detailing tape performance is warrantied per membrane brand.
