D-Seal FlexiGuard
Surface-mounted aluminium expansion joint profile with a replaceable anti-slip TPE insert — handles 20 mm of movement across a 50 mm joint, and the wear strip swaps out without touching the floor.
What is it?
A surface-fixed expansion joint cover from the D-Seal Floor & Parking range. An anchored aluminium base profile holds an interchangeable thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) insert that sits just 3 mm proud of the finished floor.
Where is it used?
Sports halls, hospital corridors, cold stores, schools, retail and commercial floors — wherever a slab joint in a finished floor needs covering without cutting a recess into the screed.
Why use it?
The TPE insert takes all the traffic wear and pops out for replacement in minutes; the anchored profile never moves. A -30 °C to +120 °C service range covers everything from freezer rooms to sun-exposed decks.
How is it applied?
Mechanically anchored over the joint gap on cured, level substrates on both sides. The anti-slip insert is then pressed into the retaining channel. Floor-to-floor, wall-to-wall and corner versions let one system run the whole joint line.
About D-Seal FlexiGuard
D-Seal FlexiGuard is built around a simple maintenance argument: in a trafficked floor joint, the part that wears out should not be the part that is bolted down. The system pairs a surface-mounted aluminium profile — supplied in 3 m lengths for floor, wall and corner conditions — with an anti-slip TPE insert that arrives on a 25 m roll and clips into the profile after fixing. When years of trolleys, footfall and cleaning machines eventually scuff the insert, it is pulled out and a fresh length pressed in. No breaking out anchors, no re-screeding, no shutting the corridor for a day.
Because the profile mounts on the surface rather than in a recess, FlexiGuard is particularly useful on retrofit and refurbishment jobs where the flooring is already finished and cutting a rebate is impractical. It bridges a 50 mm joint gap, accommodates up to 20 mm of movement, and stands only 3 mm above the finished floor — low enough for beds, trolleys and wheelchairs to cross without a jolt. D-Seal manufactures under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 systems, and Space Arc Engineering supplies and installs the full range across Delhi NCR and pan-India.
The technical insight
Structural joints move continuously — thermal cycling, shrinkage and live-load deflection all show up as slow opening, closing and slight shear across the gap. FlexiGuard splits the two jobs a joint cover must do. The aluminium profile handles the structural duty: it spans the 50 mm gap, transfers wheel and foot loads into the anchored slab edges, and protects the joint arrises from impact spalling. The TPE insert handles the movement duty: thermoplastic elastomer combines rubber-like elasticity with thermoplastic processability, so it flexes and recovers within the retaining channel through up to 20 mm of cyclic movement without tearing or debonding — there is no adhesive bond to fatigue, only a mechanical grip. The material stays elastic at -30 °C, which is why the system is specified into cold stores where conventional gun-applied sealants stiffen and fail, and it remains dimensionally stable to +120 °C. The 3 mm profile height is the third piece of the design: it keeps the joint line walkable and machine-cleanable while still leaving enough insert section to absorb movement.
Where it is used
- Sports halls, gymnasiums and indoor stadiums where joints cross resilient or timber sports flooring
- Hospital corridors, OT approaches and hygiene-critical areas needing a cleanable, gap-free joint line
- Cold stores and temperature-controlled warehouses operating down to -30 °C
- School, college and institutional corridors carrying heavy daily footfall
- Retail malls, showrooms and airports where trolleys and cleaning machines cross joints all day
- Commercial office refurbishments where joints must be covered over an already-finished floor
- Wall-to-wall and internal corner joint runs, continuing the same system off the floor plane
- Retrofit replacement of failed sealant-filled joints without cutting into the screed
Key advantages
- Insert replaces in minutes without disturbing the anchored profile — the floor stays in service
- Anti-slip TPE walking surface, a genuine safety point in wet-mopped hospital and retail corridors
- Only 3 mm proud of the finished floor, so trolleys, beds and wheelchairs cross without a bump
- Wide -30 °C to +120 °C service range — one specification from freezer rooms to exposed decks
- Surface-mounted fixing suits retrofit work; no rebate cutting or flooring reinstatement
- Floor-to-floor, wall-to-wall and corner versions keep detailing consistent along the full joint run
- Genuine 20 mm movement accommodation across a 50 mm joint gap
- Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certified systems
Limitations & considerations
- Movement capacity tops out at 20 mm — larger structural or seismic joints need wider-range systems such as D-Seal JackGuard or GalaxyJoint
- Being surface-mounted, it stands 3 mm proud; where a dead-flush floor is mandatory, a recess-mounted profile like D-Seal JointMaster is the better pick
- It is a joint cover, not a waterproofing element — joints exposed to water need a sealant or membrane detail in the gap below the profile
- Heavy forklift aisles and high point loads should be checked against the duty rating; hard-wheeled industrial traffic may warrant a heavy-duty plate system instead
- Anchoring needs sound, level concrete on both sides of the joint — spalled or cracked arrises must be repaired before installation
- The TPE insert is deliberately the sacrificial wear part, so very high-traffic areas should budget for periodic insert replacement
Selection & best practice
Start with the joint itself: confirm the gap is close to the 50 mm design width along the run, and repair any spalled edges with a suitable repair mortar before fixing — the profile is only as good as the concrete holding its anchors. Check that the two floor surfaces are level with each other; a step across the joint will telegraph through the profile. Set out the full run first so floor, wall and corner versions meet cleanly, then anchor the aluminium profile per the fixing schedule, keeping it straight and evenly bedded. Press the TPE insert into the retaining channel only after all profiles are fixed and dust-free, cutting it generously from the 25 m roll and avoiding stretch during installation — a stretched insert shrinks back and opens end gaps. In cold stores, install at as close to service temperature as practical, or allow for thermal contraction in insert lengths. Where the joint must also be watertight, detail a compatible sealant or waterstop in the gap before the profile goes down; retrofitting waterproofing under a fixed profile is painful. Space Arc’s applicator team can carry out supply-and-fix with the substrate repair included.

Industry use cases
Healthcare
Hospital corridors and diagnostic wings need joint covers that are gap-free, cleanable and trolley-smooth. FlexiGuard’s 3 mm height and replaceable anti-slip insert keep bed and stretcher routes safe, and worn inserts are swapped overnight without closing the corridor.
Cold chain & warehousing
Gun-applied joint sealants stiffen and crack in sub-zero rooms. FlexiGuard’s TPE insert stays elastic at -30 °C, making it a reliable joint detail for cold stores, blast-freezer approaches and temperature-controlled distribution floors.
Sports & recreation
Indoor stadiums and gymnasiums combine structural joints with impact-sensitive flooring. The surface-mounted profile bridges the joint without recess cutting, and the anti-slip insert keeps the line safe for fast-moving players and events traffic.
Education & institutional
School and college corridors take relentless footfall and rough cleaning. The wear lands on the insert, not the building — facility teams re-insert from a 25 m roll during vacations instead of raising civil-repair work orders.
Retail & commercial
Malls, showrooms and office refurbishments often discover joint problems after flooring is finished. FlexiGuard retrofits over the finished floor, with matching wall and corner versions carrying the same clean line up the wall.

How we position D-Seal FlexiGuard
FlexiGuard is the pick when the joint is around 50 mm, movement is within 20 mm, and you want a serviceable, anti-slip cover installed over a finished floor. Within the D-Seal family, step sideways as the conditions change: JointMaster for a recess-mounted, dead-flush finish rated to 1000 kg point loads; JackGuard when joints run 100–375 mm wide; GalaxyJoint for 50–125 mm joints needing a tapered cover plate; LevelJoint for flush floor transitions; and NovaLink where uneven slab levels or accessibility-compliant detailing drive the spec. Because FlexiGuard covers rather than seals, wet-area and external joints should carry a proper sealing detail in the gap — Space Arc pairs it with polyurethane and polysulphide joint sealants from our Fosroc and Sika sealant ranges, and with waterproofing membranes where the joint sits in a treated deck. Talk to our team with your joint schedule and movement calculations, and we will map each joint condition to the right profile and sealing combination.
