Product Overview
Dekguard S is a penetrating, silane-siloxane based hydrophobic impregnation system for the protection of reinforced concrete from carbonation and chloride ion ingress — the two dominant causes of reinforcement corrosion in India. Applied by brush, roller, or spray to the surface of concrete, Dekguard S penetrates into the outer zone of the concrete matrix and reacts with the cementitious phases to form a chemically bonded water-repellent lining within the pore structure of the concrete. This lined pore structure dramatically reduces the rate of water absorption, chloride ingress, and carbon dioxide diffusion into the concrete, slowing or preventing the carbonation and chloride attack mechanisms that lead to reinforcement depassivation and corrosion. Crucially, Dekguard S is breathable — vapour from within the concrete can continue to migrate outward. This makes it very different from film-forming paints and coatings that trap moisture. Dekguard S is suitable for concrete facades, bridges, car park decks, columns, and any exposed concrete surface in India. It is invisible after application and does not change the appearance of the concrete. How long does Dekguard S protection last on concrete?
Dekguard S provides protection for approximately 10 to 15 years under normal exposure conditions before re-treatment may be considered. The actual service life depends on the severity of the environment (coastal marine, industrial, urban), the quality of the substrate concrete, and the application rate achieved. In heavily polluted or marine environments, more frequent inspection and re-treatment may be prudent.
Can Dekguard S be applied to existing concrete that already shows signs of carbonation?
Dekguard S is primarily a preventive treatment for concrete that has not yet carbonated to the depth of the reinforcement. If carbonation has already reached the reinforcement and corrosion is active, a comprehensive concrete repair and protection scheme is required — including removal of carbonated concrete, repair with Renderoc mortars, anti-corrosion treatment of the reinforcement, and then application of Dekguard S as the final protective layer. Dekguard S alone will not stop active corrosion in already carbonated concrete.
Does Dekguard S change the colour or appearance of the concrete?
No. Dekguard S is a penetrating treatment that is invisible after application and curing. The concrete retains its natural texture, colour, and appearance. This makes it ideal for architecturally exposed concrete, heritage structures, and any application where maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the concrete is important alongside protection.
