About Sika SikaCeram-850 Design
SikaCeram-850 Design is Sika’s cartridge-format epoxy grout aimed at projects where the joint has to survive constant washdown, spillage and hygiene cleaning rather than just look tidy on handover. It is a two-part system based on epoxy resin and special additives, packed in a 400 ml double side-by-side cartridge. A static mixer nozzle screws onto the front, so as you pump the gun the two components meet and mix in the correct ratio on their way out. That removes the guesswork of hand-batching epoxy grout and gives a consistent, void-free joint from the first bead to the last. It is designed for joints between 2 mm and 15 mm on both floors and walls.\n\nFor engineers and contractors in India, the appeal is a joint that behaves like the tile around it. The cured grout is dense, glossy and non-porous, so it does not soak up oil, food dye, blood or cleaning chemicals the way sanded cement grout does. The technical insight
Cement grout is porous and alkaline, so water, oils and coloured liquids wick into the joint and it slowly stains, cracks and washes out. SikaCeram-850 Design works differently: once the epoxy resin and hardener react, they cure into a cross-linked, effectively closed-pore solid. There are no open capillaries for contaminants to enter, which is why the joint stays colour-stable and wipes clean, and why it holds up against a broad range of chemicals. The additive-filled formulation also keeps shrinkage low and gives real mechanical strength in the joint, with a measured tensile adhesion strength of 7.6 MPa (JC/T 547-2005) and abrasion loss of only about 0.02 g (GB/T 1768-2006). The cartridge-and-nozzle system is central to getting that performance on site, because the fixed A:B ratio and in-line mixing mean every metre of joint is dosed the same way the lab tested it, instead of depending on how well a mason blended a bucket.

Limitations & considerations

- A cleanability and staining test is advised before grouting absorbent or porous tiles, and a trial when a colour contrast is required
Selection & best practice
Confirm the tile adhesive has fully set and that joints are dry, clean and free of spacers, dust and excess adhesive before you start; the surface must not be damp to the touch and there should be no standing water. Screw on the static mixer nozzle, then pump the gun at least twice and discard that first extrusion until both parts come through as one uniform colour. Extrude firmly into the joint so the grout fully contacts both sides and no air is trapped, then tool it smooth as soon as possible with a metallic ball finishing tool. After 6 to 8 hours, lift any excess off the tile face with a sharp scraper. Work only what you can finish inside the roughly 20-minute pot life, and change the nozzle if the mix begins to set. Clean tools immediately with Sika Colma Cleaner, because cured material comes off only by mechanical means. Allow about 24 hours before pedestrian traffic and around 72 hours before full traffic at 23 degrees C; lower temperatures extend these times.
