Expanding Grout and Concrete Admixture for Pre-Stress Applications

Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad

Product Overview

Cebex 200 is a powder expanding admixture from Fosroc that generates small controlled amounts of gas (hydrogen) in fresh cementitious grout or mortar during the plastic phase immediately after mixing. The gas generation causes a slight volumetric expansion of the grout that counteracts and compensates for the bleeding and settlement that would otherwise occur during the first few hours before the grout stiffens and sets. Without an expanding admixture, cement grouts tend to exhibit a settlement (bleed) of 2 to 5% of the grout volume — water separates to the top of the grout and the solid components settle. This settlement leaves voids at the top of the grouted space (at the highest points of the duct or void), which are precisely the most dangerous locations for tendon corrosion or void filling failures. By generating expansion that equals the expected settlement, Cebex 200 ensures the grout remains full to the top of every void throughout the setting process, producing the completely void-free grouting required in critical structural applications. Cebex 200 is used in pre-stressing tendon duct grouting (where Cebex EN is the premium product with specifically calibrated expansion and zero bleed), in anchor bolt and chemical anchor grouting, in bridge bearing pocket grouting, and in any application where the absence of settlement voids in the hardened grout is a design requirement. The dosage of Cebex 200 must be carefully controlled — under-dosing gives insufficient expansion and some settlement; over-dosing causes excessive gas generation that can produce a coarse cellular foam with reduced strength. Space Arc Engineering distributes Cebex 200 for prestressed concrete, bridge, and infrastructure grouting projects across Delhi NCR and Northern India.

Applications

  • Cementitious grout expanding admixture for bearing pocket and void grouting
  • Non-shrink grout production for anchor bolt and chemical anchor grouting
  • Pre-stressing tendon duct grouting as part of the non-bleed grout mix
  • Expanding admixture in machine base plate cementitious grout
  • Void filling grout for underground and below-grade applications
  • Non-shrink mortar production for structural repair and filling applications

Key Advantages

  • Gas-generating expansion compensates for grout settlement and bleeding
  • Ensures void-free grouting at the highest points of ducts and voids
  • Powder form — easy to incorporate into dry-mixed grout systems
  • Produces controlled expansion at the correct dosage without excess foam
  • Prevents settlement voids that would compromise structural performance
  • Part of the Fosroc Cebex admixture family for specialist concrete applications

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the gas generation of Cebex 200 provide non-shrink expansion in grout?

Cebex 200 contains aluminium powder (or a similar metallic compound) that reacts with the alkaline pore solution in fresh cement grout to produce small bubbles of hydrogen gas. This gas generation occurs during the plastic (fluid) phase of the grout before it stiffens and sets. The gas bubbles cause the grout volume to increase by a small but controlled amount — typically 1 to 4% — during this plastic phase. Because the expansion happens while the grout is still fluid, the grout can flow to fill any settlement or bleed that would otherwise occur. By the time the grout stiffens, the expansion has compensated for the expected settlement, leaving the grout in a state of zero net volumetric change or slight net positive expansion. Once set, no further volume change occurs.

What is the difference between Cebex 200 and Cebex EN for tendon duct grouting?

Both Cebex 200 and Cebex EN provide expanding non-shrink properties in grout, but Cebex EN is a premium formulation specifically calibrated for the very demanding requirements of prestressed concrete tendon duct grouting. Cebex EN provides zero bleed at the low water-cement ratio (0.40 to 0.44) used in tendon duct grout, and the expansion is calibrated to exactly compensate for the minimal bleed of such a low water-cement ratio grout. Cebex 200 is a more general-purpose expanding admixture with a broader dosage window for general grouting applications. For critical post-tensioning duct grouting, Cebex EN is the preferred product. For general non-shrink grouting, bearing pockets, anchor grouting, and similar applications, Cebex 200 is a practical and cost-effective option.

How important is accurate dosage control for Cebex 200?

Accurate dosage control is critical for Cebex 200. The admixture produces gas proportionally to the dose — too little and the expansion is insufficient to compensate for settlement (and the grout bleeds and voids form); too much and excessive gas generation creates a coarse foam with a low-density cellular structure, unacceptably low compressive strength, and poor durability. The correct dosage must be established by trial mixes for each specific combination of cement, water-cement ratio, ambient temperature, and grouting application. Temperature also affects gas generation rate — higher temperatures accelerate the reaction, so the dosage may need to be reduced in hot weather. Always perform trial mixes before using Cebex 200 on a critical structural application.
