Fosroc Cebex WP10
Powdered integral water-repellent admixture for semi-dry concrete blocks, bricks, precast units and building mortar — cuts water penetration and efflorescence without sacrificing compressive strength.
What is it?
A chloride-free, white powder admixture based on long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic materials that makes cement-based mortar, blocks, bricks and precast concrete integrally water-repellent.
Where is it used?
Block and paver manufacturing plants, precast yards, and site-batched masonry and rendering mortars — anywhere semi-dry or plastic cementitious mixes need to resist rain penetration and efflorescence.
Why use it?
It reduces capillary water absorption and surface efflorescence while maintaining compressive strength, and its lubricating action helps automatic block/paver machines compact and demould cleaner.
How is it applied?
Added as a dry powder during mixing at 1-3% by weight of cement (optimised by trial), either by hand or through the plant’s automatic dosing system, then mixed to a uniform consistency.
About Fosroc Cebex WP10
Fosroc Cebex WP10 is a ready-to-use powdered water-repellent (hydrophobic) admixture developed for cement-based products that need to shed water rather than soak it up. It is formulated from a blend of long-chain fatty acids and other water-repellent materials, is free of chlorides, and is supplied as a fine white powder. Cebex WP10 is designed primarily for the high-volume manufacture of semi-dry products — solid and hollow concrete blocks, bricks, kerbs, pavers and general precast units — as well as for site and factory building mortars and renders.
In an Indian context, integral water repellents like Cebex WP10 answer a very practical problem: masonry and precast surfaces exposed to monsoon-driven rain, splash and high humidity tend to draw water through their capillary network. That moisture carries dissolved salts to the surface, where it evaporates and leaves the chalky white staining known as efflorescence. It also feeds dampness, algae and the freeze-thaw or salt-crystallisation cycles that weather a façade. By making the matrix itself water-repellent during mixing, Cebex WP10 reduces this water uptake at source instead of relying solely on an applied surface coating that can wear or be missed.
The product is distinct from Fosroc’s grouting “Cebex” range (such as Cebex 100, a plasticising/expanding grout admixture) — despite the shared brand name, WP10 is a water-repellent powder for blocks and mortar, not a grout fluidifier. It is dosed at a modest 1-3% by weight of cement and is added straight into the mix, which makes it well suited to automated block and paver lines where it also lends a useful lubricating effect that improves machine compaction and output. Space Arc Engineering supplies Cebex WP10 to block manufacturers, precast yards and contractors across Delhi NCR and Pan-India as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator.
The technical insight
Cebex WP10 works by hydrophobation rather than pore-blocking. The long-chain fatty-acid component reacts with free lime (calcium hydroxide) liberated during cement hydration to form insoluble metallic soaps (calcium stearate-type compounds) that line the capillary pores of the hardened matrix. These deposits lower the surface energy of the pore walls so that liquid water is repelled and capillary suction is suppressed, while the pores themselves stay largely open — so the material still breathes and water vapour can diffuse out. Because the repellency is generated in place and is chemically bonded into the matrix, it is integral and durable rather than a film sitting on the surface.
The practical engineering consequence is reduced sorptivity and lower water permeability, which in turn limits the transport of soluble salts that cause efflorescence and limits the moisture available for sulphate and freeze-thaw attack. Critically, at the recommended dose this is achieved with no significant loss of compressive strength — a key differentiator from cheaper air-entraining “waterproofers.” That balance is dose-sensitive: Fosroc specifically warns that overdosing (roughly doubling the rate) can entrain a significant amount of air into the mortar and noticeably reduce strength, so the optimum dose must be fixed by trial mixes using the actual cement, aggregates and machine conditions before production. Being chloride-free, it does not introduce a corrosion risk to any embedded steel or wall ties.
Where it is used
- Semi-dry concrete masonry: solid and hollow blocks, bricks and kerbs made on automatic/vibro-compaction machines
- Concrete pavers, paving blocks and tiles where rain resistance and reduced efflorescence are required
- General precast concrete units that must resist water penetration and surface staining
- Site- and factory-batched building mortars for brick and block masonry
- Rendering and plastering mortars on external walls exposed to rain and humidity
- Coloured concrete products where efflorescence would spoil the finish
Key advantages
- Chloride-free hydrophobic chemistry that repels water without corroding embedded steel or wall ties
- Reduces capillary water penetration and permeability, improving durability against rain, damp and weathering
- Minimises efflorescence by limiting the water that carries soluble salts to the surface
- Maintains compressive strength at the recommended dose — no significant strength penalty
- Lubricating action in dry and semi-dry mixes improves compaction and the efficiency/output of automatic block and paver machines
- Supplied ready to use as a dry powder — easy to add manually or through automatic dosing equipment
- Improves the surface’s resistance to atmospheric attack and general weathering
- 12-month shelf life when stored correctly, simplifying stock management
Limitations & considerations
- It is a water repellent, not a tanking or pressure-resisting waterproofing system — it does not replace membranes or crystalline slurries where hydrostatic pressure is present
- Performance is dose-sensitive: overdosing (about double) can entrain excess air and significantly reduce strength, so trial mixes are essential
- Optimum dosage must be established by testing with the actual materials and machine conditions; the 1-3% range is only a starting point
- As a powder added at the mixer, it cannot be retro-applied to already-cast or in-service units
- Reduces water absorption but does not eliminate it entirely or guarantee a zero-efflorescence result on its own
- Being an integral admixture, it improves the body of the unit rather than sealing joints, cracks or interfaces between units
- Skin and eye irritant in powder form — handlers must wear gloves and goggles and avoid inhalation/ingestion
Selection & best practice
Always establish the optimum dose by trial mix before full production — start within the 1-3% by cement weight range and use the actual cement, sand, pigments and the same machine/vibration settings you will run in production, then check water absorption, strength and finish. Disperse the powder evenly: add Cebex WP10 with the cement and dry materials and mix to a uniform colour and consistency before/with the mixing water so it is fully distributed through the batch. Keep water content as low as the machine/workability allows, since a lower water/cement ratio reinforces the permeability benefit. Never exceed the established dose to “get more waterproofing” — doubling the rate entrains air and cuts strength. Cure the finished blocks, pavers or mortar properly; integral repellency does not remove the need for normal curing to develop strength and a dense matrix. Store in the original sealed container at 2-40 °C, keep it dry, and use within the 12-month shelf life. For below-grade tanking, water-retaining structures or surfaces under hydrostatic head, combine masonry made with WP10 with an appropriate Fosroc membrane or crystalline system rather than relying on the admixture alone.

Industry use cases
Concrete block & paver manufacturing
Block and paver plants add Cebex WP10 to semi-dry mixes to cut rain absorption and efflorescence on the finished units while its lubricating action improves machine compaction and output.
Precast concrete yards
Producers of kerbs, copings and architectural precast use it to lower water penetration and surface staining on units exposed to weather, without compromising the strength needed for handling and service.
Masonry & rendering on site
Contractors batch it into bricklaying and rendering mortars on external walls so that monsoon rain and splash are repelled and white efflorescence staining on fresh masonry is reduced.
Coloured / decorative concrete
Manufacturers of pigmented pavers, tiles and facing blocks use WP10 to protect the colour finish, since reduced efflorescence keeps the surface free of chalky salt deposits.
Affordable and mass housing
Block- and mortar-based housing projects across Indian climates adopt it as a low-cost integral defence against damp and weathering, complementing applied coatings and DPCs.

How we position Fosroc Cebex WP10
Within the Fosroc range, Cebex WP10 sits in the admixtures family as the dedicated integral water-repellent for blocks, bricks, precast and mortar — a different job from the grouting Cebex products (e.g. Cebex 100, the plasticising/expanding grout admixture) despite the shared name, and complementary to Fosroc’s liquid integral waterproofers such as the Conplast WP/X421 family used in plastic concrete. For surfaces under genuine water pressure it pairs with, rather than competes against, Fosroc membrane and crystalline systems (e.g. the Brushbond range). Against the wider Indian market it competes with integral water-repellent powders and liquids from Sika (Sika WT/Plastocrete water-repellent admixtures), MYK (formerly MBS/MYK Laticrete construction-chemical line), Dr. Fixit (Pidilite — e.g. their integral and powder waterproofing compounds widely used in housing) and STP/Bostik. Its clearest sweet spot is high-volume semi-dry block and paver production, where the combination of efflorescence control, retained strength and a genuine lubricating/compaction benefit on automatic machines is its strongest differentiator. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, can advise on specifying Cebex WP10, running the trial mixes needed to fix the dose, and combining it with the right membrane or coating where pressure waterproofing is also required.
