What is it?

A liquid pumping aid that raises concrete’s thixotropy, keeping lean or poorly graded mixes cohesive under pump or spray pressure.

Where is it used?

Wet-mix shotcrete, TBM ring-gap grouting, and cast concrete pumped through long lines or marginal aggregate grading.

Why use it?

Removes segregation and blockage risk from low-cement, poorly graded mixes, giving consistent flow, less rebound, and room to trim accelerator dosage.

How is it applied?

Dosed as a liquid admixture at batching or pump-mixing, alongside the project’s normal plasticiser and, for shotcrete, its accelerator.

About Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc TCC 780

MasterRoc TCC 780 belongs to Master Builders Solutions’ MasterRoc range for tunnelling, mining and underground construction, carrying forward the well-known MEYCO family (TCC 780 was previously sold as MEYCO TCC 780). It’s a liquid admixture with one job: make concrete thixotropic. The mix behaves like a structured gel at rest, resisting bleed and segregation, then shears down to a pumpable consistency the moment a pump or nozzle loads it. That solves a problem underground works see constantly — cement content is kept lean, and site aggregate, often manufactured sand or crusher-run, rarely grades as cleanly as the mix design assumes. Both push a mix toward segregation, and TCC 780 rebuilds the cohesion a richer, better-graded mix would have had naturally.

That cohesion pays out two ways. In wet-mix shotcrete, a more cohesive mix sprays cleaner and sticks better, so rebound drops and less accelerator is needed to make it stand on a vertical or overhead face. In straight pumping — TBM back-up lines, ring-gap grouting, or any long-line pour with a marginal mix — TCC 780 keeps the concrete moving as one plug instead of paste squeezing ahead of the aggregate and blocking the line. For contractors on Indian metro, hydropower or highway-tunnel packages, where aggregate quality varies batch to batch, that reliability outweighs a marginal saving on plasticiser.

The technical insight

Place TCC 780 among the admixture families you already know. A superplasticiser like MasterGlenium or Conplast SP430 disperses cement particles to cut water demand and thin concrete — it makes the mix more fluid. A thixotropic pumping aid does close to the opposite job at rest: it restructures the paste so the mix holds together and resists bleeding, then shear-thins under the pump or spray nozzle so it still moves freely under load. TCC 780 sits firmly in this second category, which is why it’s dosed alongside — not instead of — the project’s normal plasticiser and, in shotcrete, its accelerator. Because the effect targets cohesion rather than fluidity, it’s especially effective on mixes where the aggregate grading curve has gaps — a scenario Indian tunnel and mine sites see often given how much manufactured-sand quality varies by source.

Where it is used

  • Wet-mix shotcrete for tunnel linings and underground support
  • TBM annulus/ring-gap grouting
  • Pumping lean, low-cement concrete over long line distances
  • Concrete with poorly graded aggregates, including M-sand
  • Ground-support shotcrete on mine drives and stopes
  • Cast-in-place pumped concrete on metro and hydropower packages
  • Shotcrete mixes needing lower accelerator dosage without losing stand-up

Key advantages

  • Builds cohesion so pumped/sprayed concrete resists segregation at high output
  • Compensates for variable, poorly graded aggregates common on Indian sites
  • Cuts rebound losses in sprayed concrete, reducing material wastage
  • Lets accelerator dosage come down, protecting long-term shotcrete strength
  • Keeps pump lines running smoothly, reducing blockages and downtime
  • Liquid form drops into existing batching systems, no new equipment
  • Purpose-built for tunnelling and mining, not adapted general chemistry
  • Works across cast and sprayed concrete with one admixture

Limitations & considerations

  • A specialist tunnelling/mining admixture, not a general ready-mix workability aid
  • Usually sourced project-to-project in India, not stocked as a shelf SKU — plan lead time
  • Full numeric data (exact dosage, specific gravity, pH) sits on select regional TDS only — confirm before scale-up
  • Overdosing can over-stiffen a mix and hurt pumpability, so trial batching is essential
  • Performance depends on accelerator type, cement and aggregate grading, so it needs mix-by-mix tuning
  • Manages the symptom of poor aggregate grading, not a fix for the aggregate source itself

Selection & best practice

Treat TCC 780 as mix-specific, not a fixed recipe. Trial-batch with the actual project aggregates, cement and accelerator brand/dosage, then tune the TCC 780 dosage until the mix holds together without over-stiffening — more isn’t automatically better. On sprayed concrete, watch rebound and accelerator use on the trial panel; a well-dosed mix lets you trim accelerator while rebound drops. Keep the current regional technical data sheet on hand, since revisions are country-specific, and confirm dosage and storage guidance against it rather than a past project’s figures. Build its lead time into procurement planning, and store and handle it per the safety data sheet — away from freezing and extreme heat, and within shelf life.

Industry use cases

Metro & Road Tunnelling

Wet-mix shotcrete lining for tunnel drives where cement content is kept lean and M-sand grading varies batch to batch.

TBM-Driven Tunnels

Ring-gap (annulus) grouting behind the tunnel boring machine, needing reliable long-line pumping without segregation.

Underground Mining

Ground-support shotcrete on mine drives and stopes, where lower rebound and reduced accelerator cut material cost per round.

Pumped concrete for powerhouse caverns and access tunnels sourced from quarries with inconsistent aggregate grading.

Long-Line Concrete Pumping

Infrastructure pours where an unusually long pump-line run and a marginal mix design need added cohesion to avoid blockages.

Frequently asked questions

Is MasterRoc TCC 780 stocked in India, or does it need to be ordered specially?
It’s a specialist MasterRoc tunnelling/mining product, usually sourced project to project rather than off a shelf. Share your project scope and timeline and we’ll confirm lead time through the Master Builders Solutions network.
How is this different from a superplasticizer like Conplast SP430 or MasterGlenium?
A superplasticizer thins concrete and increases flow. TCC 780 does close to the opposite at rest — it thickens the mix’s internal structure to resist segregation — then shear-thins under pump or spray pressure. The two work together, not as substitutes.
Can TCC 780 be used in dry-mix shotcrete?
Manufacturer literature confirms it for wet-mix sprayed concrete, cast concrete pumping and TBM ring-gap grouting. If your project runs a dry-mix process, flag that when you enquire so we can confirm suitability against the current TDS first.
Does using TCC 780 let us cut accelerator quantities in shotcrete?
Manufacturer literature confirms improved cohesion allows reduced accelerator consumption, which also helps since heavy accelerator dosing hurts long-term shotcrete strength. The actual reduction has to be set on a trial panel with your accelerator — it isn’t a fixed percentage.
What dosage should we start a trial mix at?
We don’t quote a blanket dosage figure — it needs to be read off the current regional technical data sheet and checked against your cement, aggregate and accelerator combination. We’ll pull the latest sheet for your order and confirm trial dosage before batching.
Will this help with our local M-sand, which doesn’t always grade well?
That’s exactly the scenario TCC 780 targets — lean cement content or aggregate that isn’t cleanly graded is the manufacturer’s own stated use case, matching the M-sand variability many Indian tunnel and mine sites deal with.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc TCC 780

TCC 780 sits inside Master Builders Solutions’ MasterRoc family for tunnelling and mining, alongside sprayed-concrete accelerators (the MEYCO/MasterRoc SA and TCC series, including TCC 735) and plasticisers such as MasterGlenium and MasterRheobuild — Space Arc can package TCC 780 with these for a full shotcrete or pumped-concrete system rather than supplying it in isolation. We haven’t found a genuine Fosroc equivalent: its Conplast range covers plasticisers, and Conplast SC is a shotcrete accelerator, not a viscosity/cohesion modifier, so it complements rather than replaces TCC 780 in a mix design. If your brief calls for a Fosroc-branded system end to end, tell us early — we’ll scope what Fosroc can and can’t cover for the pumping-aid function rather than force a substitution that isn’t equivalent.
