Fosroc Nitobond CM
A single-component, chloride-free multi-purpose adhesive, bonding agent, primer and cement admixture that eliminates hacking and improves the durability of mortars and renders.
What is it?
Fosroc Nitobond CM is a single-component, ready-to-use polymer emulsion that works as a multi-purpose adhesive, bonding agent, primer and cement-mortar admixture. It is supplied as a liquid that is gauged (mixed) into cement slurry or mortar, or applied neat as a bonding/priming coat.
Where is it used?
Used across building and repair works to bond new cementitious materials (plaster, render, screed, repair mortar) to existing concrete, masonry and other substrates, and to prime surfaces before plastering or rendering. Common on RCC structures, brick/block walls, repair patches and floor toppings.
Why use it?
It eliminates the need for mechanical hacking and keying by providing a chemical/mechanical key for plaster and render, improves bond strength and durability, contains no chloride admixtures, and is economical and easy to apply by brush, roller or spray.
How is it applied?
Applied either neat as a brushed/rolled/sprayed bonding coat onto a prepared, clean substrate (with new material applied while it is still tacky), or gauged into the cement mix as a polymer admixture, or diluted with water as a primer/sealer. Follow the country-specific Fosroc TDS for exact dilution and coverage.
About Fosroc Nitobond CM
Fosroc Nitobond CM is part of the well-established Nitobond range of bonding agents from Fosroc, a global construction-chemicals manufacturer whose products are widely specified across India for concrete repair, waterproofing and structural rehabilitation. Nitobond CM is positioned by Fosroc as a “multi-purpose adhesive, bonding agent, primer and cement admixture” — in other words, a single product that a contractor can use in several different roles on the same site.
Chemically, Nitobond CM is a single-component, water-based polymer emulsion of the polyvinyl-acetate (PVA) / synthetic-resin family. It is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid that is simply gauged (added) as required — there is no separate hardener or second component to measure, which makes it forgiving on busy job sites. It dries to a film, bonds most common construction materials, and critically contains no chloride admixtures, so it does not introduce chlorides that could promote corrosion of embedded reinforcement.
The single most useful property for Indian building work is that Nitobond CM “eliminates hacking and keying by providing a mechanical key for receiving plaster or render coats.” On conventional jobs, smooth RCC surfaces (columns, beams, soffits, shear walls) are chipped by hand to create a key so that plaster will hold — a slow, dusty, labour-intensive step that also weakens the cover concrete. A brushed coat of Nitobond CM replaces that step with a tenacious bonding layer, saving labour, reducing debris and protecting the structure.
For Space Arc Engineering’s customers — contractors, applicators, consultants and procurement teams in Delhi NCR and across India — Nitobond CM is a low-cost, high-utility consumable that solves three recurring problems at once: poor plaster/render adhesion on dense concrete, the durability of thin mortar and screed layers, and the need for a simple surface primer/sealer before finishing.
The technical insight
The performance of a PVA-type bonding agent like Nitobond CM comes from film formation and re-wetting behaviour, and understanding this is what separates a durable bond from a failure. As the water-based emulsion is applied and begins to dry, the polymer particles coalesce into a continuous, tacky film that grips both the old substrate and the fresh cementitious layer placed over it. Two distinct application logics follow from this. As a neat bonding coat, the fresh mortar/plaster MUST be applied while the Nitobond CM film is still tacky (“wet-on-tacky”); if the film is allowed to fully dry and is then plastered over without a fresh coat, the bond is compromised. As a gauging admixture, the polymer is mixed into the cement slurry or mortar itself, where it improves cohesion, reduces the water-cement ratio needed for workability, lowers permeability and increases flexural/tensile capacity of thin sections — which is why polymer-modified renders resist cracking and debonding better than plain cement. Because PVA emulsions can re-emulsify in standing water, neat-applied PVA-family bonding agents are best regarded as suitable for internal and protected applications rather than permanently water-immersed or externally exposed conditions; for those, Fosroc’s SBR (Nitobond SBR) or epoxy (Nitobond EP) bonding agents are the correct upgrade. Always confirm the exact dilution, coverage and exposure limits against the current country-specific Fosroc Technical Data Sheet before specifying, because Fosroc publishes region-specific versions.
Where it is used
- Bonding coat between existing hardened concrete and new plaster, render or repair mortar
- Eliminating manual hacking/keying of smooth RCC surfaces (columns, beams, soffits, shear walls) before plastering
- Polymer admixture (gauging liquid) to improve durability and reduce cracking of mortars, renders and thin screeds
- Surface primer/sealer on porous concrete, masonry and plasterboard before applying finishing coats
- General-purpose construction adhesive for bonding most common building materials
- Improving adhesion and cohesion of patch repairs and feather-edge mortar layers
- Dustproofing and sealing of porous cementitious surfaces
Key advantages
- Single-component, ready-to-use liquid — no separate hardener, simply gauged as required
- Eliminates labour-intensive hacking and keying by providing a key for plaster and render
- Contains no chloride admixtures, so it does not promote reinforcement corrosion
- Bonds most common construction materials and improves the durability of mortars and renders
- Versatile and economical — one product serves as adhesive, bonding agent, primer and admixture
- Easily applied by brush, roller or spray, suiting most site conditions and trades
- Water-based and low-odour, making it convenient for interior building work
- Reduces dust, debris and structural disturbance compared with mechanical surface preparation
Limitations & considerations
- As a PVA-family emulsion it is best suited to internal/protected applications; it can re-emulsify under permanent water immersion or continuous external exposure — use Nitobond SBR or Nitobond EP for wet/external/structural duty
- As a neat bonding coat, fresh mortar must be applied while the film is still tacky; over-drying without a fresh coat weakens the bond
- Not a structural adhesive — for load-bearing or high-strength concrete-to-concrete bonding, an epoxy bonding agent (Nitobond EP) is required
- Substrate must be sound, clean and free of laitance, dust, oil and loose material for the bond to develop
- Performance values (dilution, coverage, exposure) vary by region — always verify against the current country-specific Fosroc TDS
- Protect from frost during storage and transit; emulsion can be damaged by freezing
Selection & best practice
Prepare the substrate first: it must be sound, clean and free of dust, laitance, oil, curing compounds and loose particles — wire-brush or lightly abrade dense surfaces and dampen highly absorbent ones as the TDS directs. Decide the role before mixing: for a bonding coat, apply Nitobond CM neat by brush, roller or spray and place the fresh plaster/render/mortar while the film is still tacky (re-coat if it has dried). For a polymer-modified mortar, gauge Nitobond CM into the mix at the rate given on the country-specific TDS. For priming/sealing, dilute with water per the TDS. Work to the manufacturer’s stated coverage rather than over-applying, do not use as a permanently water-immersed or externally exposed bonding layer, and protect freshly bonded work from rapid drying and frost. Always cross-check dilution and coverage against the current Fosroc Technical Data Sheet for your region, and contact Space Arc Engineering for batch-specific data sheets and application guidance.

How we position Fosroc Nitobond CM
Within the Fosroc Nitobond family, Nitobond CM is the economical, internal-duty workhorse: a single-component PVA-type emulsion for everyday bonding, priming and mortar-modification where conditions are dry and protected. Step up to Fosroc Nitobond SBR (an SBR latex) when damp, external or higher-durability mortar-modification is needed, and to Fosroc Nitobond EP (a two-component epoxy) for structural, high-strength concrete-to-concrete bonding — with Nitobond AR (acrylic) as the related option for plaster/render keying and gauging. Against competitors, Nitobond CM sits opposite PVA/acrylic bonding agents such as Dr. Fixit Pidicrete URP and Pidiproof LW+ (Pidilite), Sika Latex / SikaTop and Sika Bb (Sika), MYK Laticrete Latex and STP/MBS branded SBR and bonding agents found in the Indian market. The honest position: for permanently wet, submerged or structural applications, an SBR or epoxy product (Fosroc Nitobond SBR/EP, Sika Latex/epoxy) is the technically correct choice rather than a PVA emulsion. Where Nitobond CM wins is versatility and cost on interior building work — one chloride-free product that bonds, primes, seals and modifies mortar while eliminating hacking. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, can supply Nitobond CM alongside the full Nitobond range and advise on the right grade for each exposure condition. Specifiers should always validate dilution, coverage and exposure limits against the current country-specific Fosroc Technical Data Sheet before finalising.
