Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc MP 800
The ultrafine Portland cement grout engineered to reach rock joints and soil fissures ordinary injection cement can’t touch.
What is it?
An ultrafine (microfine) Portland cement — ground to a Blaine fineness above 800 m²/kg — used as an injectable grout for rock and soil, not as a structural concrete binder.
Where is it used?
Tunnel faces and shafts on metro, hydropower and mining projects, dam foundation curtain grouting, and underground works needing pre- or post-excavation ground treatment.
Why use it?
Its roughly 4-micron median particle size penetrates joints and fissures that conventional OPC or standard microfine cement simply bridge over, cutting water ingress and consolidating fractured ground faster.
How is it applied?
Mixed with water and a Master Builders Solutions HRWR admixture in a colloidal mixer at a 0.6-1.0 water/cement ratio, then pumped into boreholes with a high-pressure piston pump within 30-40 minutes of mixing.
About Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc MP 800
MasterRoc MP 800 is not a general-purpose cement — it is Portland cement clinker ground down to an ultrafine powder, with a Blaine surface area above 800 m²/kg and roughly 95% of particles finer than 14 microns (d95). For comparison, ordinary OPC 53 grade cement typically runs a Blaine fineness of only 300-350 m²/kg, with a coarser grain size to match. That gap matters in grouting: a standard cement suspension physically cannot enter a hairline joint narrower than its own grain size, however hard a pump pushes it. MasterRoc MP 800’s median particle size of about 4 microns lets the grout travel into rock joints, bedding planes and pore networks that conventional cement grout — and even many “microfine” cements sold loosely in the Indian market — simply bridge across and block at the mouth of. It is made and marketed by Master Builders Solutions’ Underground Construction (UGC) division, the same group behind the wider MasterRoc range for tunnelling, mining and rock-support work.
In practice, MasterRoc MP 800 shows up where water control and ground consolidation through fractured or jointed rock is a scheduling risk, not just a technical nicety — Delhi-NCR and other Indian metro tunnel drives through mixed rock strata, Himalayan hydropower headrace tunnels and dam foundation curtain grouting, and mine drives advancing through water-bearing joints. Its fast set (initial set from about 60 minutes, final set from roughly 2 hours at 20°C) is deliberate: on a tunnelling face, every hour spent waiting for grout to set before the next excavation round is lost production. That speed and fineness come with a dependency, though — the product is meant to be batched with a Master Builders Solutions HRWR admixture, not used as a stand-alone cement-water slurry, and it needs a genuine colloidal (high-shear) mixer to disperse properly. As Master Builders Solutions’ authorised distributor for Delhi NCR and pan-India project supply, Space Arc Engineering sources MP 800 against confirmed project requirements rather than as counter stock, and coordinates it with the compatible MasterGlenium/MasterRheobuild admixture and MasterRoc HCA 10 hydration controller in the same order.
The technical insight
The number that actually governs performance here is the particle size distribution, not just the Blaine figure most data sheets lead with. MasterRoc MP 800’s d95 of 14 microns means virtually the whole batch is fine enough to enter joints down to roughly 0.1-0.2 mm — well beyond what a coarser “ultrafine” cement or ordinary OPC can achieve. But ultrafine particles carry a large surface area relative to their volume, so at a workable water/cement ratio (0.6-1.0 by weight) they flocculate and thicken almost immediately unless a high-range water-reducing admixture keeps them deflocculated — which is why MP 800 is never specified without MasterGlenium or MasterRheobuild alongside it. The flow-cone target of 32-34 seconds and the 2% bleeding cap on the data sheet are really a proxy for “is the admixture dosage right for today’s cement lot and site water” — the reason Master Builders Solutions recommends a bleeding/segregation pretest before every batch of production grouting, not just once at project start.
Where it is used
- Pre-injection grouting ahead of tunnel faces and shafts in fractured or water-bearing rock (metro, hydropower, road tunnels)
- Post-injection and contact grouting behind precast segmental linings and shotcrete to close annular voids
- Curtain and consolidation grouting of jointed rock foundations for dams, barrages and reservoirs
- Fissure and joint sealing in fractured rock masses in mines and underground drives
- Ground stabilization ahead of shaft sinking and deep cut-and-cover excavation
- Water ingress control and seepage cut-off in underground metro stations and tunnels
- Permeation/compensation grouting for geotechnical ground improvement in mixed soil-rock strata
Key advantages
- 14-micron d95 particle size penetrates hairline joints and fissures ordinary cement grout cannot enter
- Faster initial and final set than standard micro/ultrafine cements shortens the wait before the next excavation round
- >800 m²/kg Blaine fineness gives a large reactive surface area for a durable, watertight grouted mass
- Runs on standard cement grouting/injection plant — no dedicated resin-injection equipment needed
- No hazardous resin components, unlike PU or epoxy injection systems — simpler site handling and storage
- Formulated to work with MasterGlenium/MasterRheobuild HRWR admixtures for controlled, low-bleed flow
- Open time can be extended with MasterRoc HCA 10 where access or pumping distance demands it
Limitations & considerations
- Still a cementitious grout — cannot match pure chemical (acrylate/PU) resins for penetrating micro-fissures below roughly 0.1 mm
- Very short pot life (30-40 minutes) demands disciplined batching and continuous agitation; unforgiving of delays on a busy tunnel face
- Must always be paired with a compatible HRWR admixture — used alone it risks segregation, bleeding and blocked lines
- Needs a genuine high-shear colloidal mixer at a minimum 1500 rpm; ordinary paddle or drum mixers under-disperse the ultrafine particles
- Data-sheet setting times are referenced at 20°C — expect faster, less predictable set in Indian summer site temperatures without a pretest
Selection & best practice
Before production grouting starts — and again whenever the cement lot, site water or ambient temperature changes — run a small bleeding/segregation pretest with the intended MasterGlenium or MasterRheobuild dosage (0.6-2% of cement weight) and confirm the flow-cone reading sits in the 32-34 second band. Mix only in a genuine colloidal (high-shear) mixer at a minimum 1500 rpm; a standard paddle or drum mixer won’t de-flocculate the ultrafine particles and defeats the point of specifying MP 800 over ordinary cement. Batch only what can be injected within the 30-40 minute pot life, keep the agitator running continuously, and treat the 60-120 minute initial set as a hard planning constraint for the next excavation round — tighten it further for hot Indian site conditions, where actual set runs faster than the 20°C reference figures on the data sheet.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc MP 800
MasterRoc MP 800 sits at the fine, fast-setting end of Master Builders Solutions’ MasterRoc ultrafine injection cement family, which also includes coarser or slower grades such as MP 650 and MP 355 for wider fissures or longer working windows, plus MP 800 SR — a special-order variant of MP 800 itself built for a much longer open time. It is meant to be ordered alongside MasterGlenium or MasterRheobuild HRWR admixtures (mandatory, not optional) and, where pumping distance or access stretches the 30-40 minute pot life, MasterRoc HCA 10 hydration control admixture. There isn’t a genuine Fosroc equivalent to point specifiers to here — Fosroc’s grouting range (the Conbextra family) is built for non-shrink cementitious anchor and baseplate grouting, a different job entirely; teams needing a non-cementitious alternative for hairline-crack penetration typically move to a PU or acrylate resin injection system instead of a cross-brand cement product. As Master Builders Solutions’ authorised Delhi NCR distributor, Space Arc supplies MP 800 against confirmed project scope, bundled with the compatible admixtures.
