What is it?

An ultrafine, well-graded Portland cement (not a proprietary chemical resin) milled to a Blaine fineness above 900 m²/kg, purpose-built for pressure injection into rock and soil rather than for surface or structural grouting.

Where is it used?

Tunnel drives, metro and rail underground works, dam and hydropower foundations, mine drifts, and deep excavation/shaft sites where fissured rock or permeable soil needs to be sealed or consolidated ahead of, or behind, excavation.

Why use it?

Its 12-micron d95 particle size lets it penetrate joints and pore spaces that standard OPC 43/53 grade or even many microfine cements cannot enter, while its faster set (final set in roughly 2 to 2.5 hours) shortens the wait before drilling, blasting or the next excavation round can proceed.

How is it applied?

Mixed with water at a 0.6–1.0 water:cement ratio in a high-shear colloidal mixer, dosed with a Master Builders Solutions HRWR admixture (MasterGlenium or MasterRheobuild), and pumped into the rock or soil mass using standard high-pressure piston cement-injection equipment.

About Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc MP 900

MasterRoc MP 900 sits in a category most Indian contractors rarely think about until a tunnel face starts weeping water or a metro TBM hits a fissured stretch of rock. It isn’t a machine-base grout or a bolt-anchoring compound in the way Conbextra or MasterFlow families are understood on a typical Space Arc project — it’s an ultrafine Portland microcement, milled from pure clinker to a Blaine fineness above 900 m²/kg, with 95% of particles finer than 10 microns. That fineness is the entire point: at 12-micron d95, the grains are small enough to migrate into hairline joints, fissures and pore networks in rock and soil that a normal 43/53 grade OPC particle, several times larger, simply cannot enter. For pre-injection ahead of tunnel boring, contact grouting behind segmental linings, or curtain grouting under a dam foundation, that difference in penetrability is what separates a genuinely water-tight ground mass from a grout curtain full of gaps.

What makes MP 900 practical on Indian underground and infrastructure sites — Delhi and NCR metro corridors, hydropower tunnels in the Himalayan belt, mining drives across central India — is that it still behaves like cement. Site teams already running cement-grouting rigs don’t need exotic chemical-injection plant; a colloidal mixer and a high-pressure piston pump are enough, provided the mix is dosed correctly with a compatible high-range water reducer. The trade-off is that it sets fast — initial set in as little as 60 minutes at 20°C — so batching, pumping and injection sequencing have to be planned tightly, and it has almost no room for on-site improvisation the way a general-purpose repair mortar does. Space Arc supplies MP 900 against specified grouting programmes for metro, tunnelling, mining and dam-rehabilitation contractors across Delhi NCR and pan-India, alongside the compatible MasterGlenium/MasterRheobuild admixture range the manufacturer’s technical data sheet calls for.

The technical insight

The number that matters most on the data sheet is the particle size distribution, not just the headline Blaine figure. A d95 of 12 microns and d50 of 3.5 microns means the bulk of the cement is genuinely sub-microfine — closer to the territory of specialist injection cements than to the 15–20 micron d95 typical of many so-called microfine cements sold in India. Combined with a controlled 0.6–1.0 water:cement ratio and a mandatory HRWR dose (0.6–2% by cement weight), this keeps the suspension stable enough to pump (bleeding capped at 2%, flow cone 32–34 seconds) while still being fine enough to permeate tight rock joints rather than just filling the larger cavities a coarser grout would plug. The fast set (final set 120–150 minutes) is a direct function of that fineness plus the admixture package — more surface area hydrates faster — which is precisely why the manufacturer flags a short 30–40 minute pot life and recommends continuous agitation right up to injection; treat it like an ordinary batch of grout left standing and it will set in the pump.

Where it is used

  • Pre-injection (permeation/consolidation) grouting ahead of tunnel and shaft excavation in fissured or jointed rock
  • Post-injection and contact grouting behind tunnel linings and TBM shield tails to close annular gaps
  • Curtain grouting for groundwater/seepage control in metro, rail and hydropower underground structures
  • Ground consolidation and stabilization ahead of deep excavations, shaft sinking and cut-and-cover works
  • Rock mass consolidation and fissure sealing in dam and hydropower foundation treatment
  • Fracture and joint sealing in mine drifts, drives and access tunnels
  • Water ingress reduction in existing underground structures via retrofit injection
  • Compensation and settlement-control grouting near sensitive structures during nearby tunnelling

Key advantages

  • 12-micron d95 particle size penetrates fissures and pore spaces well beyond the reach of standard OPC 43/53 grade cement
  • Faster initial (60–120 min) and final (120–150 min) set than normal or coarser microfine cements, cutting waiting time before drilling or blasting resumes
  • No hazardous components declared in the base cement system, which helps on confined-space underground sites
  • Uses standard cement grouting equipment — colloidal mixer and piston pump — avoiding investment in specialist chemical-injection plant
  • Generally more economical than acrylic or polyurethane chemical grouts for large-volume rock and soil consolidation work
  • Testable, quality-controllable grout properties (mud balance, flow cone, bleeding) that site QA/QC teams can verify batch to batch
  • Engineered to work with Master Builders Solutions’ own HRWR range (MasterGlenium, MasterRheobuild) for consistent, predictable rheology
  • Cement-based end product that hardens into a durable grouted mass rather than a polymer that can degrade over decades

Limitations & considerations

  • Very short pot life (30–40 minutes) demands continuous agitation and tight coordination between mixing, transfer and injection — little room for site delays
  • Needs an efficient, ideally colloidal, mixer running at 1500+ rpm; an ordinary drum or paddle mixer will under-shear the grout and risks segregation and bleeding
  • Must always be batched with a compatible Master Builders Solutions HRWR admixture — it is not a stand-alone bag product that performs on its own with plain water
  • Fast set makes it unsuitable wherever a longer open/working time is required; longer-open-time work needs MasterRoc HCA 10 hydration control admixture or the special-order MP 900 SR variant
  • A specialist, project-engineered product rather than a retail shelf item — typically ordered against a specified grouting programme with lead time, not picked up for small ad-hoc jobs
  • Proper penetration into rock relies on high-pressure piston pumping equipment and trained injection crews, which not every general contractor has in-house

Selection & best practice

Treat MP 900 as an engineered system, not a bag of cement. Always run a pretest batch with the specified Master Builders Solutions HRWR (MasterGlenium or MasterRheobuild, 0.6–2% of cement weight) to confirm bleeding and segregation stay within limits before committing to full-scale injection, and hold the water:cement ratio within the stated 0.6–1.0 band rather than drifting toward wetter mixes for convenience. Mix in a colloidal mixer at a minimum 1500 rpm — fill with water first, add cement while running, mix a further two minutes, then add the admixture and mix one more minute before transferring to the agitator — and never leave the batch static; keep it under constant agitation and inject within 30–40 minutes of mixing. Stage injection pressures to suit the ground conditions, sequence holes so fresher grout isn’t fighting already-setting grout in adjacent fissures, and if the programme genuinely needs longer open times, specify MasterRoc HCA 10 or the MP 900 SR variant up front rather than trying to slow down MP 900 on site.

Frequently asked questions

Is MasterRoc MP 900 the same as the non-shrink cementitious grout used under machine bases or column baseplates?
No. Products like Conbextra or MasterFlow non-shrink grouts are pourable, free-flow structural grouts for gap-filling under plates. MP 900 is a much finer injection cement designed to be pumped under pressure into rock joints and soil pores — a different application altogether, even though both are broadly called ‘grouts’.
What water:cement ratio should we use on site?
The manufacturer’s data sheet specifies 0.6–1.0 by weight, always used together with a Master Builders Solutions HRWR admixture. Run a bleeding/segregation pretest at your chosen ratio before full-scale injection.
Can we mix MP 900 with any admixture we already have on site?
It should always be dosed with a Master Builders Solutions high-range water reducer — MasterGlenium or MasterRheobuild, at 0.6–2% of cement weight. The TDS specifically recommends a compatibility pretest before use.
Our injection programme needs a longer open time than 30–40 minutes — is that possible?
Yes, but not with standard MP 900 as batched. The manufacturer recommends adding MasterRoc HCA 10 hydration control admixture, or specifying the special-order MP 900 SR (slow-reacting) variant, if longer working times are required.
What mixing and pumping equipment do we need?
An efficient mixer — ideally colloidal, running at a minimum of 1500 rpm — and a high-pressure piston pump for injection. Standard cement grouting rigs used in tunnelling and ground-improvement work are compatible.
How is MP 900 supplied and priced in India, and what’s the lead time through Space Arc?
It’s supplied in 20 kg bags or 1000 kg jumbo bags against a specified grouting programme rather than sold as a retail item, so pricing and lead time depend on quantity and project schedule — contact Space Arc directly with your grouting specification for a project quote.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc MP 900

Within the Master Builders Solutions MasterRoc range, MP 900 is the finest of the ultrafine cement family, sitting above MasterRoc MP 800 and MP 650/MP 650 SR (coarser microfine cements) when a specification calls for maximum penetration into very tight fissures; where the ground condition instead calls for chemical sealing of active water ingress, the same MasterRoc line offers the MP 350/355 polyurethane resins and MP 300-series acrylic grouts, and MP 900’s own performance depends on pairing it with the manufacturer’s MasterGlenium or MasterRheobuild HRWR admixtures and, where longer open time is needed, MasterRoc HCA 10. It’s worth being direct about where this product does not have a like-for-like alternative in Space Arc’s other major line: Fosroc’s grouting range (Conbextra, Renderoc-based structural grouts) is built for machine-base, anchor and structural gap-filling, not for pressure injection into rock and soil, so there is no genuine Fosroc swap-in here — a specifier looking for an alternative ultrafine injection cement would typically be comparing against other imported microfine/ultrafine cement brands used on Indian tunnelling and hydropower projects, not a Fosroc catalogue item.
