What is it?

A two-component, thixotropic polyester resin anchor grout from STP Limited, used to chemically bond bolts and reinforcement bars into drilled holes.

Where is it used?

Foundation bolts, machine bases, starter and dowel bars, handrails and balustrades set into concrete, rock, masonry or brickwork.

Why use it?

It grips the full length of the embedded bar with a resin bond rather than mechanical expansion, so it works close to edges and in cracked or thin sections where expansion anchors would split the substrate.

How is it applied?

Drill and clean the hole, mix the resin and hardener, fill the hole, insert the bar with a twisting motion, then leave it undisturbed until cured before loading.

About STP ShaliGrout Anchor

STP ShaliGrout Anchor is the resin-anchoring member of STP Limited’s ShaliGrout family, made for site teams who need to fix a bolt or a bar into hardened concrete and put it to work the same day. It is a two-part polyester resin system: a base resin and a hardener that you combine on site to start the cure. Once mixed and placed, the grout bonds chemically along the whole embedded surface of the fixing, so load transfers into the surrounding concrete evenly instead of being concentrated at one expansion point. That single characteristic is what makes chemical anchoring the default choice for reinforcement dowelling, heavy hold-down bolts and any fixing that sits near a slab edge or in a section too thin to take an expansion sleeve.

The formulation is deliberately thixotropic, meaning it holds its shape once dispensed and resists running back out of the hole. For an applicator that is the difference between a clean overhead or horizontal fix and a wasted cartridge. STP positions ShaliGrout Anchor for bars and bolts in the 12 mm to 30 mm diameter range, embedded into concrete, rock, masonry or brickwork, and states that it produces anchorages of consistent, reproducible pull-out values. As STP’s authorised distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, Space Arc supplies the product with the current STP technical and safety data sheets, and can advise on hole geometry and cure allowance for the substrate you are working into.

The technical insight

A polyester resin anchor works by adhesion and mechanical keying rather than by wedging. When you drill an oversized hole and fill it with the mixed resin, the grout flows into the surface roughness and micro-pores of the concrete and around the thread or ribs of the bar, then cures into a rigid solid that locks the two together. Because the bond is distributed over the entire embedded length, there is no outward bursting force of the kind an expansion anchor generates as it is tightened. That is precisely why resin anchoring is preferred close to edges, in narrow sections and in older or lightly cracked concrete where an expansion anchor would risk spalling the cover. The thixotropic body of ShaliGrout Anchor keeps the resin in place during this cure, so overhead and horizontal fixings develop the same full-contact bond as a straightforward downward hole. The trade-off inherent to the polyester chemistry is temperature sensitivity: cure speed rises in warm conditions and slows in the cold, so gel and full-cure times shift with the ambient and substrate temperature on the day.

Where it is used

  • Foundation and hold-down bolts for machinery, pumps and structural steel base plates
  • Reinforcement starter bars and dowels drilled into existing concrete for extensions and connections
  • Handrail, balustrade, railing and safety-barrier post fixings into slabs and walls
  • Fixings set close to a slab or beam edge where an expansion anchor would risk cracking the cover
  • Anchoring into masonry, brickwork and rock as well as structural concrete
  • Threaded studs and rod anchors in overhead and horizontal positions that need a non-sag grout
  • Rebar dowelling and connection details on repair and strengthening projects
  • Balustrading, barriers, fences and post supports requiring reliable, repeatable pull-out capacity

Key advantages

  • Chemical bond acts along the full embedded length, distributing load rather than concentrating it at an expansion point
  • No outward bursting force, so it can be used near edges and in thin or lightly cracked sections
  • Thixotropic body does not sag or flow out of overhead and horizontal holes
  • Delivers consistent, reproducible anchorage values from fix to fix
  • Bonds into concrete, rock, masonry and brickwork alike
  • Corrosion-resistant, non-expansive cured grout
  • Two-component system mixes on site with simple tools, no specialist rig required
  • Fast cure allows early application of load once the resin has set

Limitations & considerations

  • Cure and gel times are temperature dependent; cold weather slows the set and hot weather shortens working time
  • Suited to bar and bolt diameters in roughly the 12-30 mm range; outside that, confirm suitability or select an alternative
  • Hole must be drilled to the correct diameter and depth and thoroughly cleaned of dust and water, or the bond will underperform
  • Once the resin begins to gel it cannot be repositioned, so the fixing must be set correctly first time
  • Polyester resin has a limited pot life after mixing; only mix what can be placed and set within the working time
  • Not a cementitious base-plate or equipment grout; for load-bearing plates under machinery use a non-shrink or epoxy grout instead

Selection & best practice

Start by drilling the hole to the diameter and depth called for by the fixing, then clean it out completely: blow out drilling dust, brush the bore and blow again, and make sure the hole is free of standing water before you place resin, because dust and moisture are the two most common reasons a resin anchor fails to reach its rated capacity. Mix the base and hardener thoroughly to a uniform colour with no streaks, and mix only the quantity you can place and set within the working time, since polyester resin cannot be revived once it starts to gel. Fill from the back of the hole outward to avoid trapping air, then insert the bar with a slow twisting motion so resin coats the whole embedded surface. Set the fixing to its correct position and alignment immediately and do not disturb it while it cures. Allow the full cure before applying load, and extend that waiting time in cold conditions. Always work to the current STP technical data sheet for the hole geometry, embedment depth and cure allowance appropriate to your bar size and substrate.

Frequently asked questions

Is ShaliGrout Anchor a chemical anchor or an expansion anchor?
It is a chemical anchor. You drill and clean a hole, fill it with the mixed two-part polyester resin, and set the bolt or bar into it. The resin bonds along the whole embedded length instead of wedging outward like an expansion sleeve, which is why it can be used close to edges and in thin sections.
What size bolts and bars can it fix?
STP specifies ShaliGrout Anchor for bolts and bars roughly in the 12 mm to 30 mm diameter range, set into concrete, rock, masonry or brickwork. For sizes outside that range, ask us to confirm suitability or recommend an alternative.
Can I use it for overhead and horizontal fixings?
Yes. The grout is thixotropic, so it holds its shape and resists running out of the hole, which makes it suitable for overhead and horizontal anchoring as well as straightforward downward holes.
How long before I can load the anchor?
The resin cures quickly but the exact gel and full-cure times are temperature dependent, curing faster in warm conditions and slower in the cold. Wait for the full cure stated on the current STP technical data sheet for your conditions before applying load.
Can it replace a cementitious base-plate grout under machinery?
No. ShaliGrout Anchor is for anchoring bolts and bars, not for grouting under load-bearing base plates. For plates under equipment, use a non-shrink cementitious grout such as ShaliGrout 50 or 90, or an epoxy grout such as ShaliGrout EP for high-vibration bases.
Do you supply it across India and provide the data sheets?
Yes. Space Arc is an authorised STP distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and pan-India, and we supply ShaliGrout Anchor with the current STP technical and safety data sheets, along with guidance on hole size, embedment and cure for your job.
