Fosroc Auramix V100
A chloride-free viscosity modifying agent that gives self-compacting and high-fluidity concrete the cohesion to flow without segregating, bleeding or settling.
What is it?
Fosroc Auramix V100 is a ready-to-use liquid viscosity modifying agent (VMA), also called a rheology modifier, used alongside polycarboxylate (PCE) superplasticisers to produce stable self-compacting concrete (SCC).
Where is it used?
Self-compacting and self-levelling concrete on building structures, congested reinforcement, precast and architectural fair-faced elements, and pumped/poured pours where vibration is impractical.
Why use it?
It controls the rheology of highly fluid mixes so they resist bleeding, sweating, segregation and aggregate settlement, giving consistent in-situ quality and a clean surface finish without mechanical compaction.
How is it applied?
Dosed into the mix water or added to the freshly batched concrete at the mixer/RMC plant, typically in combination with a Fosroc PCE admixture, then trialled to dial in the correct rate for the local aggregates.
About Fosroc Auramix V100
Fosroc Auramix V100 belongs to the Auramix family of concrete admixtures and sits in the specialist viscosity-modifying segment of that range. Where a superplasticiser such as Auramix 400 or Auramix 500 is responsible for water reduction and fluidity, a VMA like Auramix V100 does the complementary job: it builds cohesion into the paste so that all that added fluidity does not turn into an unstable, watery mix that separates. In practical terms, it is the “stability” half of a self-compacting concrete recipe, while the PCE superplasticiser is the “flow” half.
The product is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid and is suitable for use with all common binders — ordinary Portland cement, sulphate-resisting cement (SRC) and cement-replacement materials including fly ash (PFA), ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) and microsilica. This breadth matters in India, where blended PPC and PSC cements and high SCM replacement levels are routine on infrastructure and high-rise work. Auramix V100 imparts excellent stability to the hydraulic binder system, opposing the sweating, bleeding, segregation and sedimentation that otherwise plague very fluid concrete.
The headline benefit is concrete with such a high level of fluidity that it can be poured and placed under gravity alone, eliminating the need for poker or external vibration. On horizontal pours, often only a light screed or beam “adjustment” is needed to level the surface, and the result is a high-quality fair-faced finish free of the honeycombing, bug-holes and segregation lines that mechanical compaction can introduce. That makes it a natural fit for congested, heavily reinforced sections and for architectural concrete where appearance is part of the specification.
As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering positions Auramix V100 as a system component rather than a standalone fix — it is specified together with the right Fosroc polycarboxylate superplasticiser and a properly graded mix design, then validated by trial. Always confirm the current region-specific Technical Data Sheet for your project, as exact values are periodically updated by Fosroc.
The technical insight
A viscosity modifying agent works on the rheology of the cement paste, not on the water demand. Auramix V100 increases the plastic viscosity and yield-stress stability of the suspending paste so that coarse aggregate stays held in place and the bleed water is bound, even at the very low yield stress that a PCE superplasticiser deliberately creates for self-levelling flow. This is why VMAs and superplasticisers are used together: the PCE drops the yield stress for flow, and the VMA restores enough viscosity to keep the mix cohesive and segregation-resistant — the two contradictory requirements of modern high-performance SCC. Auramix V100 is also valuable as a robustness aid: it cushions an SCC mix against the everyday variations that wreck stability on site, such as fluctuating fine-aggregate grading, moisture swings in the sand, or minor batching tolerances. By widening this “stability window,” it reduces the risk of a mix that passes in the lab but bleeds or segregates in the truck. Because it is chloride-free (Nil chloride per IS:456), it is safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete, and its near-1.0 specific gravity confirms it is a water-based, non-dense liquid that disperses readily in the mix water.
Where it is used
- Self-compacting concrete (SCC) for in-situ building structures
- Heavily congested or densely reinforced sections where vibration access is poor
- Precast and prestressed elements requiring a clean, dense, unvibrated finish
- Architectural and fair-faced concrete where surface appearance is specified
- Pumped concrete and deep/narrow pours placed under gravity
- High-SCM mixes using PFA, GGBFS or microsilica that need rheology control
- Stabilising mixes made with marginal or variable fine-aggregate grading
Key advantages
- Suppresses bleeding, sweating, segregation and aggregate settlement in highly fluid concrete
- Enables placement and compaction under gravity, removing the need for poker/external vibration
- Improves cohesion and robustness of SCC against sand-grading and moisture variation
- Produces high-quality fair-faced surfaces with minimal finishing effort
- Chloride-free (Nil per IS:456) — safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete
- Compatible with OPC, SRC and blended cements plus PFA, GGBFS and microsilica
- Ready-to-use liquid that disperses easily in the mix water
- Works as a system with Fosroc polycarboxylate superplasticisers (Auramix / Structuro ranges)
- Reduces labour, plant and noise associated with mechanical compaction
Limitations & considerations
- It is a viscosity/stability admixture, not a water reducer — it must be paired with a superplasticiser to achieve SCC flow
- Optimum dosage is mix- and aggregate-specific and should always be established by site trials before production
- Over-dosing can make a mix too viscous/sticky, hurting flow, pumpability and finishing
- Performance depends on a sound SCC mix design and adequate fines/paste content — it cannot rescue a fundamentally poor grading
- Best results need control of sand moisture and consistent batching; it widens but does not eliminate the stability window
- Not a structural-strength product in itself — strength comes from the mix design and the cementitious system
- Always verify against the current region-specific Fosroc TDS, as values and recommendations are periodically revised
Selection & best practice
Treat Auramix V100 as one element of a designed SCC system, never as a drop-in additive. Start by getting the mix design and paste/fines content right, then select the matching Fosroc polycarboxylate superplasticiser (for example from the Auramix or Structuro ranges) for water reduction and flow. Introduce Auramix V100 at a trial dosage and run laboratory and full-scale plant trials, assessing slump-flow, T500, V-funnel and visual stability/segregation before committing to production. Add it to the mix water or to the freshly batched concrete as advised, control fine-aggregate moisture and grading, and recalibrate the dosage if your sand source or ambient conditions change. Confirm the current Indian TDS and consult the Fosroc / Space Arc technical team for project-specific dosage, especially where aggregate size or SCM levels are unusual.

How we position Fosroc Auramix V100
Within the Fosroc range, Auramix V100 is a specialist stability admixture rather than a primary superplasticiser, and it is best understood next to its siblings. It is almost always paired with a polycarboxylate (PCE) superplasticiser such as Fosroc Auramix 400 or Auramix 500 (or the Structuro range), which supply the water reduction and flow while V100 supplies the cohesion. Its closest relative is Fosroc Auramix V200, a higher-performance single-polymer rheology modifier in the same VMA family; for most demanding SCC work the choice between V100 and V200 comes down to the level of robustness required and Fosroc’s technical recommendation for the specific mix. Against the wider market, the comparable competitor products are the viscosity-modifying agents in the Sika range (the Sika Stabilizer / SikaViscoCrete VMA family) and the rheology modifiers offered by MBS (Master Builders Solutions, formerly BASF) under the MasterMatrix line; Dr. Fixit and STP (Pidilite) are strong, credible alternatives in waterproofing and repair chemicals but are less focused on dedicated SCC viscosity modifiers, so for a like-for-like VMA the Sika and MBS lines are the more direct cross-references. Space Arc Engineering recommends Auramix V100 where a contractor or RMC producer wants to keep a single, compatible Fosroc admixture system — superplasticiser plus VMA from the same supplier — for reliable self-compacting concrete, with on-site trial support to set the correct dosage.
