What is it?

A concentrated, emulsified chemical mould release agent from Fosroc, supplied as a pale amber liquid that turns milky white once diluted 1:6 with water.

Where is it used?

Precast yards, RMC and cast-in-situ sites where fair-faced, exposed or architectural concrete is cast against timber, plywood, GRP or steel shuttering.

Why use it?

It reacts with cement alkali to leave a thin, non-staining release film, so forms strip cleanly, blowholes and oil marks are reduced, and shuttering lasts longer.

How is it applied?

Dilute one part to six parts clean water, stir well, then apply a single fine, even coat by mist spray, brush or cloth and let it dry fully before concreting.

About Fosroc Reebol Emulsion Xtra

Reebol Emulsion Xtra is Fosroc’s concentrate-form chemical release agent, built for sites that care about the face of the finished concrete rather than just getting the mould off. Instead of sitting on the formwork as a passive oil film, the diluted emulsion reacts with the free alkali in fresh cement to form a thin, water-repellent skin at the mould interface. That reaction is what gives the clean break at demoulding, and it is why the product earns its place on architectural, exposed and fair-faced work where a plain shuttering oil would leave staining, patchiness or blemishes behind. Because it ships as a concentrate, one drum covers a large volume of formwork once diluted, which keeps storage and freight costs down on busy projects.

For contractors and precasters across Delhi NCR and the rest of India, the practical appeal is consistency. A correctly diluted 1:6 mix, applied as a thin, even film and allowed to dry, releases the same way pour after pour, and it is genuinely non-staining, so it can be used safely even with white cement and self-finished surfaces that will never be plastered. It suits work where demoulding times run to 24 hours or more, which covers most precast cladding, panel and beam schedules as well as slower architectural in-situ pours. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, with technical guidance on dilution, coverage and formwork prep so the film performs as intended on your specific mould faces.

The technical insight

The mechanism is chemical, not just physical. Ordinary neat oils and greases work by keeping the concrete and the mould from touching, but they tend to migrate, stain the face and pick up dirt between pours. Reebol Emulsion Xtra instead relies on a controlled reaction: the mineral-oil-in-water emulsion carries active release compounds to the mould surface, and when fresh concrete is placed, the free lime and alkalis in the cement react with those compounds to form an insoluble, water-repellent soap-type skin right at the interface. That skin is what the concrete releases against, so you get a clean, dust-free break and a smooth, fair-faced surface rather than a torn or stained one. Two things follow from this. First, film thickness matters more than quantity, the coat must be as thin as possible, because excess emulsion breaks down into surplus material that causes surface dusting and blemishes. Second, the coat must be bone dry before concreting, since an emulsion still holding water at the interface cannot form the release skin properly and performance drops off, especially in humid conditions where drying takes longer.

Where it is used

  • Precast concrete moulds for cladding, wall panels and architectural units
  • Fair-faced and exposed in-situ concrete facades and soffits
  • Bridge beams, precast girders and other structural precast elements
  • Timber and plywood shuttering, especially where stripping exceeds 24 hours
  • Steel and resin-coated formwork, including Reebol Formcote-treated plywood
  • White-cement and self-finished concrete where staining cannot be tolerated
  • Precast panel and tunnel-lining segment production in batching yards
  • General smooth-shuttered structural formwork requiring clean demoulding

Key advantages

  • Non-staining chemical film that leaves clean, plaster-ready or self-finished faces
  • Produces a genuine fair-faced finish with fewer blowholes and tie marks
  • Works on all common mould types, timber, plywood, GRP and steel
  • Concentrate form dilutes 1:6, cutting storage and transport costs
  • Water-based, so only clean water is needed on site to make up the mix
  • Safe for use with white cement without discolouration
  • High coverage per litre of concentrate keeps unit costs low
  • Aids corrosion inhibition of the formwork and eases cleaning between pours

Limitations & considerations

  • Not generally recommended where demoulding is required within 24 hours
  • Must be applied as a very thin film, excess causes surface dusting of the concrete
  • The coat must be fully dry before concreting or release performance suffers
  • Freshly coated formwork needs protection from rain until the film has dried
  • Diluted solution stays stable for only about 5 days and must be re-stirred before reuse
  • Moulds must be thoroughly clean of old concrete, laitance and oil before each coat

Selection & best practice

Make up the mix fresh: dilute one part Reebol Emulsion Xtra to six parts clean water in a clean container and stir until the emulsion is evenly milky. On used moulds, strip off old concrete and laitance and degrease the face first, new metal moulds showing rust should be wire-brushed and burnished clean, and new plywood is best sealed with Reebol Formcote for superior finish and longer re-use. Apply a single, very thin coat by fine mist sprayer for the best result; if using a cloth, soak it and wring it out well so only the thinnest film goes on. Absorbent new timber may need two coats on the first application only. Let the film dry completely before placing concrete, allowing extra time in humid weather, and protect the coated formwork from rain in the interim. Aim for the highest practical coverage and lowest film thickness, recoat before every reuse, and keep demoulding at 24 hours or more for the cleanest fair-faced release.

Industry use cases

Precast concrete manufacturing

Panel, cladding and girder producers use it for repeatable, stain-free demoulding across long casting cycles where stripping exceeds 24 hours.

Architectural and fair-faced concrete

Consultants and finishers specify it for exposed facades, soffits and feature walls that must come off the mould clean, without oil marks or heavy blowholes.

Bridges and infrastructure

Contractors casting precast beams and structural elements rely on the chemical film for smooth, consistent surfaces on repeated pours from steel and timber moulds.

White-cement and specialty finishes

Ideal where discolouration is unacceptable, as the non-staining action lets it be used safely alongside white cement and self-finished concrete.

General building and RMC sites

Site teams shuttering with plywood or steel get easier form cleaning between pours and longer shuttering life across routine structural work.

Frequently asked questions

What is the correct dilution ratio for Reebol Emulsion Xtra?
Dilute one part concentrate to six parts clean water by volume, stirring in a clean container until the mix is evenly milky white. If it is not used the same day, stir again before use, and re-stir thoroughly after about five days.
How much area does it cover?
One litre of concentrate, diluted with six litres of water, covers roughly 80 to 180 m² depending on the substrate, around 80–115 m² on unsealed timber or plywood and 120–180 m² on steel or sealed plywood, per 7 litres of solution.
Can I demould within 24 hours of casting?
It is designed for stripping times of 24 hours or more and is not generally recommended for faster demoulding, though good results are often still achieved with shorter times. For very fast cycles, ask us about a more suitable release agent.
Will it stain the concrete or affect white cement?
No. It is a non-staining chemical release agent that leaves a clean, fair-faced surface and can be used safely with white cement, provided you apply only a thin film and let it dry fully before concreting.
What pack sizes and shelf life should I plan for?
It is supplied in 5, 20 and 200 litre containers and has a 12-month shelf life when stored between 5°C and 40°C. Once diluted, the solution stays usable for at least about five days if re-stirred before use.
Which formwork surfaces does it suit?
It works on all common mould types, timber, plywood, GRP and steel, and is especially effective on resin-coated faces, including plywood sealed with Reebol Formcote. Clean and, where needed, seal the mould before the first application.

How we position Fosroc Reebol Emulsion Xtra

Reebol Emulsion Xtra sits in Fosroc’s Reebol formwork-release family and is the fair-faced, chemical-reaction option for work where the concrete surface is on show. Where a site wants the same clean, stain-free release but prefers a mineral-oil concentrate blended and stocked slightly differently, the closely related Reebol Emulsion Concentrate is the natural alternative from the same range, and Reebol Formcote is the companion sealer that conditions new plywood and metal moulds for superior finish and longer re-use. For faster demoulding cycles or heavy steel-mould production, ask Space Arc about neat-oil options in the Reebol line. Because we distribute across brands, we can also pair the release agent with complementary formwork and repair products, and for precasters chasing a flawless face we can advise on Fosroc’s Renderoc and Nitobond repair systems for any post-strike touch-ups. If you are unsure which release grade fits your demoulding schedule and mould type, our technical team will help you choose.
