BrandUltraTechCategoryConcrete RepairFormA cement-based, polymer-modified plaster applied in a 3-6 mm coat that self-cures without added water.

What is it?

A cement-based, polymer-modified plaster applied in a 3-6 mm coat that self-cures without added water.

Where is it used?

Mivan and precast RCC walls and ceilings, and thin-joint block masonry, ahead of painting.

Why use it?

Skips the week-long water-curing cycle a conventional plaster needs, keeping fast-track schedules on programme.

How is it applied?

Mixed with water on site and trowel-applied in a single 3-6 mm pass over a clean, sound substrate.

About UltraTech Super Stucco

UltraTech Super Stucco is a cement-based, polymer-modified finishing plaster meant for one specific job: turning a bare, shuttered concrete wall into a smooth, paint-ready surface without the week of water curing that a conventional 12-15 mm sand-cement plaster demands. It is applied in a thin coat, 3 to 6 mm, directly over sound RCC or thin-joint block masonry, and because it is self-curing, the site does not need a curing crew sprinkling water on it twice a day for a week.

That single property, no post-application curing, is what makes it relevant on Mivan aluminium-formwork projects, where the concrete comes out of the shutter dense, dimensionally accurate and largely blemish-free. There is no structural repair to do on such surfaces, just a skin coat to even out minor shutter marks, honeycombing pinholes and colour variation before the wall goes to primer. Super Stucco fills that specific gap between raw fair-faced concrete and paint, at a fraction of the material thickness and cement volume of a full plaster coat.

It ships as a factory-proportioned dry powder in 25 kg bags, polymer additives, graded sand and fillers pre-blended, so the only site variable is water dosing and trowel technique.

The technical insight

The self-curing behaviour comes from the polymer modification of the mix, not from any exotic cement chemistry. Conventional cement-sand plaster needs continuous moisture to complete hydration and avoid shrinkage cracking as it dries; Super Stucco’s polymer fraction retains enough internal moisture within the thin 3-6 mm film to let hydration proceed without external water curing, while also improving film flexibility and reducing microcracking as it sets. The same polymer fraction is what gives it working adhesion on dense, low-absorption Mivan concrete, a substrate that ordinary plaster often struggles to key onto without hacking. Because the coat is thin and polymer-bound rather than thick and purely cementitious, water absorption of the finished surface drops relative to conventional plaster, which is one reason specifiers report fewer efflorescence and dampness complaints on Super Stucco-finished elevations.

Where it is used

  • Skim-coat finishing on Mivan/aluminium-formwork RCC walls and ceilings ahead of priming
  • Surface finishing over thin-joint block masonry laid with polymer mortar
  • Pre-paint smoothing of fair-faced precast panels and shear walls
  • Fast-track residential and commercial towers where curing downtime cannot be afforded
  • Touch-up finishing of minor shutter marks, blow-holes and colour patchiness on exposed concrete
  • Interior wall and ceiling finishing in place of a full-thickness cement plaster coat

Key advantages

  • Removes water curing entirely, cutting roughly a week off the finishing schedule per elevation
  • 3-6 mm application thickness uses a fraction of the material a full plaster coat would need
  • Polymer enrichment gives working bond strength on dense, low-porosity Mivan concrete that plain plaster often struggles to key onto
  • Low rebound during trowel application keeps on-site wastage down
  • Leaves a uniform, smooth, paint-ready surface that can shorten or skip a separate wall-putty step
  • Lower water absorption in the cured film than conventional plaster, reducing dampness-related callbacks

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a structural or repair mortar; deep honeycombing, spalling or shutter steps beyond a few millimetres need a proper repair render first
  • Restricted to 3-6 mm thickness; it is a finish coat, not a substitute for full-thickness (12-15 mm) plaster
  • Needs a genuinely sound, laitance-free, oil-free substrate; surface prep still matters even without hacking
  • Mixed material has a limited working window, so batch size has to match the mason’s application rate
  • Costs more per kg than site-mixed cement-sand plaster, so its economics work best as a thin finish coat, not a bulk render replacement

Selection & best practice

Treat it strictly as a finishing plaster, not a leveling compound. Confirm the substrate is within tolerance first: Super Stucco will telegraph, not hide, an out-of-plumb shutter line or a step beyond a few millimetres, so any such defect needs to be dressed out with a repair mortar before the stucco goes on. Mix only what the crew can apply and finish inside the working window, apply in a single pass within the 3-6 mm band rather than building up multiple thin lifts, and hold off on priming until the coat has firmed up and dried through. Rushing the paint schedule is the most common site complaint on Mivan projects chasing handover dates.

Industry use cases

Mivan Residential Towers

Finishing coat straight off aluminium formwork, skipping the curing days that would otherwise stall the wall-to-wall handover cycle.

Fast-Track Commercial and Institutional Builds

Used where the finishing schedule is compressed and a week of manual water curing per floor is not in the programme.

Precast and Tunnel-Formwork Housing

Evens out panel joints, blow-holes and minor colour variation on factory-cast or tunnel-formed concrete before painting.

Retrofitting Smooth Shear Walls

Applied over existing dense concrete shear walls where a conventional plaster would need hacking to key on.

Frequently asked questions

Can Super Stucco be used as a full-thickness plaster replacement?
No. It is designed for a 3-6 mm finish coat over sound concrete or thin-joint block masonry, not as a substitute for a full 12-15 mm structural plaster.
Does the surface really not need water curing?
Yes, that is the core property of the product. The polymer-enriched mix retains enough moisture within the thin film to hydrate without external water curing, which is the main reason it is specified on Mivan sites.
How long before the wall can be painted?
Typically around 24 hours after application, though actual timing depends on ambient temperature, humidity and coat thickness, so a moisture check before priming is good practice.
What surface preparation does the concrete need before applying Super Stucco?
The substrate must be clean, sound and free of laitance, oil, curing-compound residue and dust. It does not need hacking on typical Mivan concrete, but any genuine unevenness beyond a few millimetres should be corrected with a repair mortar first.
Can it be applied directly over block masonry?
Yes, over thin-joint block masonry finished to a reasonably even plane. It is not meant to bridge large mortar-joint irregularities.

How we position UltraTech Super Stucco

Super Stucco sits in a narrow but well-defined slot: it is the finishing skin for concrete that is already dimensionally right, not a fix for concrete that is not. On a conventional block-and-plaster site with uneven walls, a full-thickness sand-cement plaster is still the more economical choice. Where it earns its higher per-kg cost is on Mivan and precast work, where the concrete comes out of the shutter close to true and the project’s real constraint is time: every day not spent water-curing a wall is a day the finishing trades can move faster behind it.
