Auramix 400
High-Performance PCE Superplasticiser for High-Strength and Durable Concrete
Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Auramix 400 is a high-performance polycarboxylate ether (PCE) superplasticiser positioned at the upper end of the Fosroc Auramix range, designed for production of high-strength concrete grades M50 to M70 in structural columns, bridge piers and pylons, prestressed elements, long-span girders, and high-specification durable concrete for infrastructure in aggressive environments. Auramix 400 is formulated with a high molecular weight PCE polymer delivering greater water reduction than the standard Auramix 200 or 300 grades — typically 25 to 30% water reduction versus the control mix at the same workability — enabling water-cement ratios in the range 0.28 to 0.38, which are the water-cement ratios associated with high-strength and very durable concrete. At these very low water-cement ratios, the concrete matrix becomes very dense and discontinuous in its pore structure, giving greatly reduced permeability to water, carbon dioxide, and chlorides and dramatically extending the service life of the structure in aggressive environments. Auramix 400 also provides good workability retention, maintaining adequate slump for 45 to 60 minutes at ambient Indian temperatures — important for ready mix high-strength concrete where the extended transit time from the plant to the high-rise construction site reduces the available placing time. Auramix 400 is compatible with all Portland cements, PPC, PSC, silica fume, fly ash, and GGBS. It is particularly effective in combination with silica fume for ultra-high-strength concrete (M70 and above) where the combined effect of very low water-cement ratio and pozzolanic densification produces exceptional strength and durability. Space Arc Engineering distributes Auramix 400 for high-rise, bridge, and premium infrastructure concrete projects across Delhi NCR and Northern India.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Auramix 350, Auramix 400, and Auramix 450 in the Fosroc range?
The Auramix 350, 400, and 450 are progressively higher-performance grades in the Fosroc PCE superplasticiser range. Auramix 350 is designed for grades M35 to M60, providing good water reduction and workability retention for general high-performance concrete. Auramix 400 is the higher-performance option for grades M50 to M70, with greater water reduction and better performance at very low water-cement ratios. Auramix 450 is the top-of-range product for the most demanding applications, including very high-strength concrete above M70 and SCC with exceptional workability retention. The choice depends on the required concrete grade, the water-cement ratio target, and the workability retention needed for the specific project logistics.
Can Auramix 400 be used with all types of Portland cement including PPC and PSC?
Yes. Auramix 400 is compatible with OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement), PPC (Portland Pozzolana Cement), PSC (Portland Slag Cement), and blended cements. The dosage required to achieve the target water-cement ratio may vary slightly between cement types, as different cement chemistry and particle size distributions interact differently with the PCE polymer. PPC and PSC typically have a lower C3A content than OPC, which tends to reduce admixture demand slightly. Trial mixes with the specific cement grade and brand to be used in production are essential to calibrate the dosage and verify the target slump, water-cement ratio, and setting time.
Why does Auramix 400 produce higher compressive strength than a standard naphthalene superplasticiser at the same dosage?
The higher strength achieved with Auramix 400 (compared to a naphthalene superplasticiser like Conplast SP430 or SP550 at the same dosage) comes from the greater water reduction of the PCE polymer. At the same admixture dosage (in litres per 100 kg cement), Auramix 400 reduces the water demand more effectively than a naphthalene superplasticiser, resulting in a lower water-cement ratio. Since compressive strength is primarily a function of the water-cement ratio (lower w/c = higher strength), the lower w/c achieved by Auramix 400 directly produces higher 28-day strength. To achieve the same water-cement ratio (and therefore similar strength potential), a naphthalene superplasticiser would require a higher dosage or would need the water to be explicitly reduced in the mix design.
