Fosroc Auramix 740SR
Polycarboxylate (PCE) slump-retaining, high-range water-reducing superplasticiser engineered for ready-mix concrete, self-compacting concrete and long-haul or pumped placements.
What is it?
A water-based polycarboxylate-ether (PCE) comb-polymer superplasticiser that combines high-range water reduction (>12%) with extended slump retention of up to 4 hours, without set retardation or 24-hour strength loss.
Where is it used?
Ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants, self-compacting concrete (SCC), high-rise and pumped concrete, long-distance transit deliveries, and high-strength low water-cement-ratio mixes across Delhi NCR and Pan-India projects.
Why use it?
It keeps concrete workable from the batching plant to the pour point, so RMC producers and contractors avoid retempering, rejected loads and cold joints on long hauls or tall pumps, while still hitting early strength.
How is it applied?
Dosed at the batching plant into the latter part of the mixing water at 0.4 to 2.0 litres per 100 kg of cementitious content, established by site trial mixes; never premixed with other admixtures.
About Fosroc Auramix 740SR
Fosroc Auramix 740SR is a next-generation concrete superplasticiser built on a tailored blend of polycarboxylate-ether (PCE) comb-polymers. Unlike older sulphonated naphthalene (SNF) or melamine plasticisers that disperse cement instantly and then lose effect within 30 to 45 minutes, the polymer architecture in Auramix 740SR is formulated to release onto cement particles in a delayed, staged manner. This controlled adsorption is what gives the product its defining characteristic: retention of workability for up to four hours without the heavy set retardation that contractors usually accept as the trade-off for a long open time. For Indian ready-mix operators, where a concrete truck can spend 90 minutes in traffic before it even reaches a high-rise pump, that distinction is the difference between a placed pour and a rejected load. Fosroc has specifically engineered this admixture for the ready-mix industry, and it performs reliably across a wide band of slump and flow classes, from a workable S3 right through to a free-flowing SF3 self-compacting consistence. Space Arc Engineering supplies Auramix 740SR as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, with technical back-up for mix-design trials across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
The technical insight
The performance of Auramix 740SR comes from comb-polymer chemistry. Each polymer has a charged backbone that anchors to the cement grain and long polyethylene-oxide side chains that project outward, dispersing particles by steric (physical) repulsion rather than purely by electrostatic charge, which is how conventional naphthalene plasticisers work. Steric dispersion is far more robust as the mix ages, and Fosroc engineers the molecule to delay backbone adsorption so that fresh dispersing polymer keeps becoming available over the first few hours. The practical result is more than a 12% water reduction versus a reference mix (the EN 934-2 threshold for a high-range water reducer) combined with slump retention without sacrificing set time or 24-hour compressive strength. Crucially, the product holds this performance across high-replacement cementitious systems containing GGBS, PFA (fly ash) and microsilica, which are exactly the blended binders Indian RMC plants use to cut cost, carbon and heat of hydration. At a specific gravity of 1.072 and a near-neutral pH of around 5, it is a low-viscosity amber liquid that meters cleanly through standard plant dispensers. Chloride content is below 0.1% by mass, making it fully suited to reinforced and prestressed concrete where embedded-steel corrosion is a concern.
Where it is used
- Ready-mix concrete (RMC) production requiring guaranteed slump at the point of discharge
- Self-compacting concrete (SCC) for congested reinforcement, architectural and precast elements
- High-rise concrete pumped to significant heights where open time must survive the pump cycle
- Long-distance and long-haul transit-mixer deliveries through urban traffic
- High-strength, low water-cement-ratio structural concrete for columns, cores and transfer slabs
- Concrete with high GGBS, PFA (fly ash) or microsilica replacement levels for durability and lower carbon
- Infrastructure pours (bridges, metro, water-retaining structures) needing consistent rheology batch to batch
Key advantages
- Retains workability for up to 4 hours with no set retardation, eliminating site retempering
- More than 12% water reduction enabling lower water-cement ratios and higher strength
- No reduction in 24-hour compressive strength despite the extended open time
- Excellent performance with high replacement levels of GGBS, PFA and microsilica
- Produces low-viscosity, easy-to-pump SCC and high-workability concrete with improved rheology
- Robust and consistent across different cement sources and cementitious combinations
- Chloride-free (<0.1% by mass) – safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete
- Works across a wide consistence range from S3 slump class to SF3 self-compacting flow
- Water-based and non-flammable, simplifying storage and handling at the plant
Limitations & considerations
- A plant/RMC admixture dosed at the batcher – not a site-added or hand-poured product for small jobs
- Overdosing beyond 2.0 L/100kg can cause segregation and excessive bleeding; trial mixes are essential
- Optimum dosage must be established by trial with the actual site cement and aggregates, not assumed
- Admixtures must never be premixed together before addition to the concrete
- Performance is calibrated to PCE technology – not a like-for-like swap for naphthalene-based plasticisers without redesign
- Must be stored between 2 C and 50 C; if frozen it needs full thawing and thorough agitation before use
- 12-month shelf life means stock should be rotated; older drums verified before batching
- As a high-range slump retainer, it can over-extend set if dosed for retention on small or thin sections
Selection & best practice
Always establish the working dosage through trial mixes using the exact site cement, cementitious replacements and aggregates, starting near the lower end of the 0.4 to 2.0 L/100 kg range and adjusting for the required slump or flow class and the target haul/pump time. Add Auramix 740SR with the latter part of the mixing water through a calibrated plant dispenser – never premix it with other admixtures and never add it to dry cement. For SCC, verify slump-flow, T500 and segregation resistance on trial batches before production. Match the dosage to the actual open time the job needs: a long high-rise pump or a one-hour transit haul justifies a higher rate, while short local pours need less to avoid bleeding. Keep drums sealed between 2 C and 50 C, protect from frost, rotate stock within the 12-month shelf life, and re-homogenise any product that has been thawed. For cementitious systems heavy in GGBS or fly ash, run the trial in the same ambient temperatures expected on site, since blended binders behave differently in winter and summer.

How we position Fosroc Auramix 740SR
Auramix 740SR sits at the slump-retention end of Fosroc’s polycarboxylate Auramix range and is the grade to specify when transit time, pump height or SCC flow matter more than raw early strength. Within the Fosroc system it complements other Auramix superplasticisers (such as Auramix 700, already listed on our site) and pairs naturally with Fosroc’s Conplast admixtures, Cebex range and Renderoc/Conbextra repair and grouting products on a full structural-concrete package. Against the wider market, its closest competitors in the Indian RMC sector are PCE slump-retaining superplasticisers like Sika ViscoCrete and BASF/Master Builders Solutions (MBS) MasterGlenium, both credible high-performers; for general waterproofing-admixture and site-applied needs, brands such as Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP are well known, though those are positioned more toward integral waterproofing and site repair than high-range RMC dispersion. We recommend Auramix 740SR specifically where guaranteed four-hour workability retention without retardation is the deciding factor; for shorter hauls or pure high-early-strength needs, a different Auramix or Conplast grade may be more economical. Space Arc Engineering supplies and supports the full Fosroc line as an authorised distributor and applicator, so the recommendation is always matched to your mix design rather than to a single SKU.
