Fosroc Conplast SP362
Chloride-free water-reducing superplasticiser for fluid, durable, low-permeability concrete in reinforced and prestressed work.
What is it?
Conplast SP362 is a chloride-free water-reducing superplasticiser from Fosroc’s Conplast admixture range. It lets a concrete producer either sharply cut mixing water at constant slump for higher strength, or generate flowing concrete at the same water content for easier placing.
Where is it used?
Ready-mix and site-batched structural concrete across India — high-rise RCC frames, raft and pile foundations, water-retaining structures, precast and prestressed elements, and any pour where congested reinforcement or a low water-cement ratio is specified.
Why use it?
It is chloride free, so it is safe in reinforced and prestressed concrete, and the water reduction it delivers produces a denser, lower-permeability matrix that improves durability without adding cement.
How is it applied?
Dosed at the batching plant or mixer as a liquid, gauged against cement content and added with the mixing water (never to dry cement). A site trial mix establishes the optimum dosage for the target slump and strength.
About Fosroc Conplast SP362
Fosroc Conplast SP362 is a liquid superplasticising (high-range water-reducing) admixture in the long-established Conplast family used throughout the Indian construction industry. Its job is straightforward but valuable: it disperses cement particles in fresh concrete so that far less water is needed to achieve a given workability. The concrete chemist uses that freedom in one of two ways. Hold the workability constant and strip out water, and you lower the water-cement ratio — the single biggest lever on concrete strength and durability. Or hold the water content constant and let the same mix flow, turning a stiff, hard-to-place batch into a fluid, self-levelling one that fills congested formwork and reinforcement cages with minimal compaction effort. According to Fosroc, Conplast SP362 is chloride free, which is the property that makes it acceptable in reinforced and, critically, prestressed concrete, where chloride ingress would risk corroding embedded steel and high-tensile strands. The same datasheet positions it for producing low-permeability concrete with improved durability — the reduced water demand yields a denser cement paste that resists the ingress of water and aggressive ions. For Space Arc Engineering’s customers across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, SP362 fits the everyday demand for a dependable, corrosion-safe water reducer in structural concrete: high-rise RCC, foundations, water-retaining works, and precast yards. It belongs to the broader Conplast SP3xx superplasticiser series, several members of which (SP337, SP365, SP366, SP430) are widely distributed in India, and it is most often specified where a producer wants the water-reduction and flow benefits of a superplasticiser without the chloride risk to reinforcement.
The technical insight
A superplasticiser works by adsorbing onto cement grains and giving them a like charge, so they repel each other instead of flocculating. Breaking up those flocs releases the water trapped between cement particles, which is why a small dose can replace a large volume of mixing water. The Conplast SP3xx series is built on sulphonated-polymer (naphthalene-based) chemistry, which disperses electrostatically and delivers a strong but relatively short-lived plasticising effect — meaning placement should follow batching promptly, and dosage should be confirmed by trial because cement type, fineness and ambient temperature all shift the response. The durability gain is the real prize: cutting the water-cement ratio from, say, 0.50 to 0.40 does not just raise compressive strength, it collapses the capillary pore network through which water, chlorides and sulphates migrate. In India’s aggressive exposure conditions — coastal chloride, urban sulphate-bearing soils, and the carbonation pressure of dense cities — that lower permeability is what extends service life. Because SP362 is chloride free, it adds none of its own chloride load to the system, keeping the concrete within the tight chloride limits that IS 456 and prestressing codes impose. The standard caution applies: a superplasticiser reduces water but does not waterproof, and over-dosing can cause segregation, bleeding or retardation rather than more flow.
Where it is used
- Reducing mixing water in structural RCC to lower the water-cement ratio and raise compressive strength without extra cement
- Producing flowing concrete for placement in heavily reinforced sections, columns and shear walls with minimal vibration
- Improving workability of pumped concrete for high-rise and long-distance delivery
- Casting low-permeability, durable concrete for water-retaining structures such as tanks, basements and treatment plants
- Prestressed and post-tensioned elements where a chloride-free admixture is mandatory
- Precast concrete production requiring good surface finish and easy demoulding
- Foundation work — rafts, pile caps and large pours where placeability and density matter
Key advantages
- Chloride free — safe for use in reinforced and prestressed concrete with no added chloride load on embedded steel
- Significant water reduction at constant workability, enabling higher strength without additional cement
- Can instead produce fluid, easily compacted concrete that cuts placing and vibration labour
- Lower water-cement ratio yields denser, lower-permeability concrete and improved durability
- Suitable for both ready-mix and site-batched structural concrete
- Backed by Fosroc’s established Conplast range and Pan-India technical support through Space Arc Engineering
Limitations & considerations
- It is a water reducer, not a waterproofing admixture — durability comes from the reduced w/c ratio, not from sealing the concrete
- Naphthalene-based superplasticisers give a relatively short workability window; concrete should be placed promptly after batching
- Optimum dosage must be established by trial mix; over-dosing can cause segregation, bleeding or set retardation
- Performance varies with cement type, fineness, temperature and mix design, so results from one mix do not transfer directly to another
- For very long slump-retention or self-compacting concrete, a polycarboxylate-ether (PCE) admixture such as Fosroc’s Auramix range may be more appropriate
- Must be added to the mixing water or wet mix, never to dry cement, and should not be left to freeze in storage
Selection & best practice
Always establish the working dosage with a site trial mix using the actual project cement and aggregates rather than relying on a generic figure, because cement fineness and ambient temperature in Indian conditions strongly affect the response. Add Conplast SP362 with the mixing water or to the wet mix — never onto dry cement — and avoid double-dosing on top of any other admixture without checking compatibility with Fosroc technical support. Because the plasticising effect is relatively short-lived, batch and place promptly, and keep the haul-to-placement time short for ready-mix deliveries. Store the drums in shade, keep them sealed, and protect from frost. Treat SP362 as a strength-and-durability tool: lock in the durability benefit by genuinely lowering the water-cement ratio rather than spending the entire water saving on extra slump. Verify the target slump and strength on trial cubes before scaling to production pours.

How we position Fosroc Conplast SP362
Within Fosroc’s own range, Conplast SP362 sits in the naphthalene-based Conplast SP superplasticiser family alongside SP337, SP365, SP366 and SP430 — choose between them on whether the priority is water reduction, workability retention or high early strength. Where a project needs longer slump retention, self-compacting concrete or the latest polycarboxylate-ether (PCE) performance, Fosroc’s Auramix series is the step-up option. Against competitors, SP362 competes with naphthalene-based superplasticisers such as Sika Plastiment/Sikament and the MYK/MBS and STP admixture lines, while PCE high-performance products like Sika ViscoCrete occupy the premium SCC and slump-retention niche. Dr. Fixit and STP are more often associated with waterproofing systems than mainstream structural superplasticisers, so they overlap with SP362 mainly where integral waterproofing admixtures are concerned. Space Arc Engineering’s honest position: Conplast SP362 is a dependable, corrosion-safe, value-oriented water reducer for everyday structural concrete in India; for SCC, very long haul times or extreme high-performance mixes, ask us about the PCE-based Auramix alternatives.
