What is it?

A chloride-free, sulphonated naphthalene polymer (SNF) based liquid superplasticiser / high-range water reducer from Fosroc, supplied as a brown solution that disperses instantly in water.

Where is it used?

Ready-mix and site-batched concrete, precast and prestressed elements, pumped concrete, high-strength and durability-critical structures, and floor screeds across building and infrastructure projects in India.

Why use it?

It lets you cut water demand sharply for higher early and ultimate strength, or boost workability to flowing/pumpable concrete — without adding water or extra cement, and without the chloride risk to steel.

How is it applied?

Dosed at 0.5-2.0 kg per 100 kg of cement, added with the gauging water (ideally in the last phase after pre-wetting with ~80% of mix water); optimum dosage fixed by site trials.

About Fosroc Conplast SP430 DIS

Conplast SP430 DIS is Fosroc’s India-market sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) based superplasticiser, engineered for contractors and ready-mix producers who need either very high strength or high, pumpable workability from the same admixture. Chemically it belongs to the naphthalene-polymer family of high-range water reducers, supplied as a brown liquid that disperses instantly when added to water. The “DIS” designation marks the dispersible liquid version sold by Fosroc Chemicals (India) Pvt. Ltd., and the product carries the Indian datasheet reference INDIA/2017/0140/A.

The working principle is electrostatic dispersion. Cement grains in a fresh mix tend to flocculate, trapping mixing water inside clumps where it does nothing for hydration or flow. The SNF polymer adsorbs onto the cement particles and imparts a strong negative charge, so the grains repel each other and break apart. That freed water is then available either to make the mix far more fluid at the same water content, or to be removed from the batch to slash the water-cement ratio. In practice this gives the producer a choice: keep water constant and gain flowing, self-levelling, easily pumped concrete; or hold workability and strip out water to achieve high early and ultimate strength with denser, lower-permeability concrete.

For the Indian site engineer, the most important practical point is that Conplast SP430 DIS is chloride free. That makes it safe in reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned work, and suitable for use alongside sulphate-resisting cements and marine aggregates where chloride ingress would otherwise be a corrosion risk. It is dual-classified under ASTM C494 as Type A (water-reducing) at lower dosages and Type G (water-reducing, high-range and retarding) at higher dosages, and it is manufactured to comply with IS 9103 and BS 5075. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical support on dosage trials and mix design.

The technical insight

The defining behaviour to plan around is dosage-dependent retardation. At the lower end of the 0.5-2.0 kg/100 kg cement band the product behaves as a conventional Type A water reducer; as dosage climbs toward the top of the range it shifts into Type G territory, where set retardation becomes deliberate and useful for long hauls or hot-weather placing. The flip side, confirmed by Fosroc, is that an overdose of roughly double the intended quantity produces very high workability plus noticeable set retardation — though ultimate compressive strength is not impaired, provided curing is sound. Because SNF is a “first-generation” superplasticiser, its slump-retention window is shorter than that of modern PCE (polycarboxylate ether) hyperplasticisers; for long pumping distances or high ambient temperatures in Indian summers, plan placement quickly or combine with a separately dosed retarder such as Conplast RP264. The other engineering lever is air: dosing introduces only slight additional air, which actually helps cohesion and reduces bleed, but gross overdosing can entrain enough air to cost strength. Always set the working dose by trial mixes using the project’s actual cement, fly ash/GGBS and aggregates rather than a catalogue figure.

Where it is used

  • High-strength RCC for columns, cores, transfer slabs and high-rise structural frames where a low water-cement ratio is required without excessive cement
  • Precast and prestressed concrete elements needing high early strength for faster demoulding and bed turnaround
  • Pumped and ready-mix concrete delivered over distance, where flowing, cohesive, non-segregating consistency is needed
  • Durability-critical and marine/coastal works using sulphate-resisting cement or marine aggregates, where chloride-free admixture is mandatory
  • Self-levelling and flowing concrete for congested reinforcement requiring little or no vibration
  • Floor screeds where reduced water content gives placeable workability plus faster drying and lower shrinkage
  • Concrete incorporating fly ash (PFA), GGBS or microsilica for high-performance, low-permeability mixes

Key advantages

  • Chloride free — safe for reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete and compatible with sulphate-resisting cements and marine aggregates
  • High water reduction enabling substantial gains in early and ultimate compressive strength without raising cement content
  • Produces flowing, pumpable, easily compacted concrete that reduces labour and speeds placing
  • Improved cement-particle dispersion gives better cohesion, minimising segregation and bleeding and improving surface finish
  • Lower water-cement ratio yields denser, lower-permeability concrete and improved durability
  • Compatible with all common cements and with PFA, GGBS and microsilica, plus other Fosroc admixtures dosed separately
  • Dual ASTM C494 Type A and Type G performance from a single product, dosage-dependent
  • Instantly dispersible liquid, easy to dispense with the gauging water; non-toxic and non-flammable

Limitations & considerations

  • SNF chemistry has a shorter slump-retention window than modern PCE superplasticisers — placement must be reasonably quick, especially in hot weather
  • Must not be used with high alumina cement
  • Overdosing (around double the intended dose) causes very high workability and noticeable set retardation, and can entrain excess air that reduces strength
  • With alkali-reactive aggregate the admixture can add undesirable alkali to the mix — seek Fosroc advice in such cases
  • Optimum dosage cannot be taken from the datasheet alone; site trials with project materials are essential
  • Not an integral waterproofer or corrosion inhibitor — pair with a dedicated product (e.g. Conplast X421IC / Conplast WL) where those functions are needed
  • Liquid admixture; performance parameters such as SG and pH can vary slightly by batch/configuration, so refer to the MTC for the specific supply

Selection & best practice

Always establish the working dosage by trial mixes using the actual project cement, supplementary materials (fly ash/GGBS/microsilica) and aggregates, benchmarked against a control mix with no admixture. Add Conplast SP430 DIS with the gauging water — for best results introduce it in the last phase after pre-wetting the mix with about 80% of the total water — and never pre-mix it with other admixtures before addition; dose each admixture separately. Where the goal is strength, hold workability and remove water to drop the water-cement ratio; where the goal is pumpability, start from a pump-suitable mix design. Use a calibrated dispenser, avoid overdosing, and for site-added high workability mix in the readymix truck drum at high speed for at least two minutes. Maintain good curing (water spray, wet hessian or a Concure curing membrane), particularly if any overdose has occurred. Store drums in shade, protected from extreme temperatures, and use within the 12-month shelf life.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Conplast SP430 DIS chloride free and safe for reinforced and prestressed concrete?
Yes. Conplast SP430 DIS is a chloride-free admixture (Nil chloride to BS 5075 Part 1), making it safe for reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete, and suitable for use with sulphate-resisting cements and marine aggregates where chloride-induced corrosion is a concern.
What is the recommended dosage of Conplast SP430 DIS?
The general rate of addition is 0.5 to 2.0 kg per 100 kg of cement. The exact optimum should always be fixed by site trials using your project’s cement, supplementary materials and aggregates, compared against a control mix with no admixture. Lower dosages act as a Type A water reducer; higher dosages move into Type G (high-range, retarding) behaviour.
Which standards does Conplast SP430 DIS comply with?
It is manufactured to comply with IS 9103, BS 5075 and ASTM C494 as Type A and Type G, depending on the dosage used.
What is the difference between Conplast SP430 DIS and a PCE (polycarboxylate) superplasticiser?
SP430 DIS is a first-generation SNF (sulphonated naphthalene) superplasticiser — excellent water reduction at a competitive price, but with a shorter slump-retention window. Modern PCE hyperplasticisers such as Fosroc’s Auramix / Structuro range give longer workability retention and higher water reduction, and are preferred for very long hauls, self-compacting concrete or extended open time. For many standard high-strength and pumped-concrete jobs in India, SP430 DIS remains a cost-effective workhorse.
Can Conplast SP430 DIS be used with fly ash, GGBS or microsilica?
Yes. It is compatible with all common cements (except high alumina cement) and with cement-replacement materials including PFA (fly ash), GGBS and microsilica, making it well suited to high-performance, low-permeability blended concrete. Each admixture in a mix should be dosed separately, never pre-blended.
What pack sizes and shelf life does it have, and how should it be stored?
Conplast SP430 DIS is supplied in 5, 20 and 200 litre drums. It has a minimum shelf life of 12 months under normal storage; keep it protected from extreme temperatures and preferably in shade. It is non-toxic and non-flammable.

How we position Fosroc Conplast SP430 DIS

Within the Fosroc Conplast admixture family, SP430 DIS sits as the value, high-output SNF superplasticiser — the everyday choice for high-strength or pumpable concrete where polycarboxylate-level slump retention is not essential. Where projects need longer workability retention, very high water reduction or self-compacting concrete, step up to Fosroc’s PCE-based ranges (Auramix and Structuro hyperplasticisers). For deliberate set control on long hauls, pair it with the retarder Conplast RP264; for permeability reduction or integral waterproofing, combine with Conplast X421IC or an integral waterproofer such as Conplast WL. Among competitor products that Indian specifiers commonly evaluate alongside it are Sika’s naphthalene-based Sikament / high-range Plastiment lines and the PCE-based ViscoCrete family; MBS (Master Builders Solutions, formerly BASF) MasterRheobuild SNF and MasterGlenium PCE admixtures; STP / Dr. Fixit Pidiproof and admixture offerings for the smaller-contractor segment. In short, choose SP430 DIS when you want a proven, economical, chloride-free SNF superplasticiser for strength and pumpability, and move to a PCE grade when retention, ultra-high reduction or SCC governs the mix. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, can advise on the right grade and run dosage trials for your specific mix design.
