Fosroc Nitoflor FC130-IM
Two-pack water-based epoxy floor and wall coating that seals concrete with a hard-wearing, dust-proof, chemical-resistant semi-matt finish for warehouses, food units, garages and light-industrial floors.
What is it?
A two-component, water-dispersed (water-based) epoxy resin floor and wall coating supplied in pre-weighed packs that cure to a hard, semi-matt, dust-proof seal on concrete at roughly 100 microns DFT in two coats.
Where is it used?
Warehouses, garages, light-industrial units, food-processing areas, kitchens and other floors and walls subject to pedestrian and light vehicular traffic; also used to overcoat and seal cementitious flooring screeds.
Why use it?
It seals and dust-proofs concrete, resists oils, liquids and a wide range of chemicals, is low-odour and water-clean-up, and gives an easily cleaned hygienic surface at a lower cost and lower film build than heavy-duty self-levelling systems.
How is it applied?
Mix the two pre-weighed components for at least 3 minutes, then apply two coats by brush, lambswool roller or airless spray (back-rolled) onto a sound, dry, abraded substrate, with the second coat once the first has dried.
About Fosroc Nitoflor FC130-IM
Fosroc Nitoflor FC130-IM is a thin-film, water-based epoxy floor and wall coating engineered to convert dusty, porous concrete into a sealed, durable and hygienic surface. It belongs to Fosroc’s Nitoflor industrial flooring range and is supplied as a two-component, water-dispersed epoxy resin system in pre-weighed packs, so the correct base-to-hardener ratio is fixed at the factory and the contractor simply combines and mixes the two parts on site. The cured film is a hard, semi-matt seal that bonds to concrete and other sound substrates. The “-IM” designation reflects the industrial/maintenance grade marketed for general industrial and back-of-house environments, where the priority is a clean, chemical-tolerant, dust-free floor rather than a thick decorative build. Being water-dispersed, it has low odour and tools clean up with water, which makes it well suited to occupied buildings, food-handling areas and projects where solvent smell and downtime must be minimised. For contractors, consultants and facility owners across Delhi NCR and pan-India, FC130-IM is a practical specification where the brief is to seal and protect existing or new concrete economically without committing to a high-build screed.
The technical insight
The defining characteristic of FC130-IM is that it is a water-dispersed (not solvent-borne) epoxy, which changes how it must be installed. As the resin cures, the dispersed water has to evaporate, so adequate ventilation, air movement and good drying conditions are essential; trapping water by over-applying (‘ponding’) prevents complete cure and leaves the film tacky. The system builds only about 100 microns dry film thickness across two coats, so it is a coating and sealer, not a load-spreading topping. That thin build means surface preparation is critical: the substrate must be fine-textured because any irregularity telegraphs through and wears on high spots. Pot life is genuinely short for a water-based product, around 2 hours at 20 degree C and only about 1 hour at 35 degree C, and the reaction is exothermic in the can, so mixed material should be decanted into flat trays and used within the stated working time. Because mixed water-based epoxy can look usable past its pot life yet no longer cure properly, disciplined batching on site matters more than with many solvent systems. Substrate moisture is the other gating factor: relative humidity must not exceed 80% (per BS 8203 Appendix A), and the product must not be applied below 10 degree C or above 85% ambient RH.
Where it is used
- Sealing and dust-proofing new and existing concrete floors in warehouses and storage facilities
- Light-industrial production and assembly floors with pedestrian and light vehicular/forklift traffic
- Food-processing areas, commercial kitchens and beverage units requiring a hygienic, easily cleaned surface
- Garages, service bays and workshops where oil and liquid resistance is needed
- Wall coating in industrial and food environments to give a wipe-clean, sealed finish
- Overcoating and sealing cementitious flooring screeds (e.g. Fosroc Cemtop range) for improved cleanability and chemical resistance
- Refurbishment of tired concrete floors where a thin, economical, low-odour sealer is preferred over a high-build system
Key advantages
- Water-based and low-odour, allowing use in occupied, food-handling and poorly ventilated areas with water clean-up of tools
- Dust-proofs and seals concrete, eliminating surface dusting and giving an easily cleaned, hygienic finish
- Good resistance to most oils, liquids and a wide range of industrial chemicals
- Supplied in pre-weighed two-component packs, removing on-site ratio errors and simplifying mixing
- Economical and fast to apply by brush, roller or airless spray, minimising labour and cleaning costs
- Can be overcoated onto cementitious screeds and applied to asphalt (when suitably aged) as well as concrete
- Available in standard colours and a clear grade, with an anti-slip option via broadcast grains or quartz sand
- Non-flammable cured film; UK grade carries BS 476 Part 7 Class 1 spread of flame and EN 1504-2 surface-protection classification
Limitations & considerations
- Thin film (~100 microns) is a coating/sealer, not a structural topping; it will not bridge cracks or spread heavy point loads
- Durability is reduced in very heavy-traffic zones (car-park lanes, around work benches, drinks machines); additional coats or a higher-build system such as Nitoflor FC150HP or Nitoflor SL are advised there
- Must not be applied over substrates suffering rising damp or with RH above 80%, nor below 10 degree C or above 85% ambient RH
- Short pot life (about 2 hours at 20 degree C, 1 hour at 35 degree C) demands disciplined batching, especially in Indian summer heat
- Requires good ventilation and drying conditions for the dispersed water to evaporate and the film to cure fully
- Semi-matt finish can scuff more than a gloss; substrate irregularities telegraph through the thin film
- Not inherently non-tainting for foodstuffs – separate tainting tests are recommended where food contact during application is possible
- Batch-to-batch colour variation is possible, so a single batch should be used for the final topcoat in any one area
Selection & best practice
Treat surface preparation and moisture control as the make-or-break steps. Mechanically prepare the concrete by light grit-blasting or diamond grinding to remove laitance and open the surface; where blasting is not feasible, acid-etch, neutralise, rinse and dry fully, then vacuum off all dust. Confirm the slab is sound, fine-textured and reads no more than 80% RH (BS 8203 Appendix A) with no rising damp before any coating. Work only between 10 degree C and 85% ambient RH, mix each pack for at least three minutes, decant into flat trays to preserve pot life, and apply two coats by roller or back-rolled spray – the second once the first has dried (typically 8 to 24 hours). Use material from a single batch for the topcoat, ensure strong ventilation while the water evaporates, and specify extra coats or a higher-build Nitoflor system in heavy-traffic lanes.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor FC130-IM
Within Fosroc’s Nitoflor range, FC130-IM sits at the economical, thin-film, water-based end – the go-to where the brief is to seal, dust-proof and protect concrete cleanly rather than build a thick, load-bearing topping. Where traffic, impact or chemical attack is heavier, it is logically stepped up to higher-build Fosroc systems such as Nitoflor FC150HP (a higher-build coating) or the Nitoflor SL self-levelling epoxy screeds, and it can be paired with Fosroc cementitious toppings (e.g. the Cemtop range) which it overcoats to add cleanability. Substrate preparation may involve Fosroc Acid Etch and, on contaminated or repaired slabs, Renderoc/Nitomortar repair mortars before coating. Against the wider Indian market, credible water-based and solvent-based epoxy floor-coating alternatives include Sika (Sikafloor range), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (Mastertop), STP, and at the waterproofing-and-coatings retail end Dr. Fixit (Pidilite); for a low-odour, water-based, dust-proofing sealer specification, FC130-IM competes most directly with the water-based Sikafloor and Mastertop coating grades. The honest positioning is that FC130-IM is a strong, cost-effective choice for general industrial, warehouse and food-area floors where cleanliness, chemical tolerance and low odour matter – but for aggressive chemical exposure, decorative high-gloss build, or punishing forklift/car-park traffic, a thicker high-build or self-levelling system from Fosroc or an equivalent competitor is the more durable specification.
