Fosroc Nitoflor SLE
A solvent-free, self-levelling epoxy floor coating that delivers a seamless, hygienic, chemical- and abrasion-resistant finish for pharmaceutical, food-processing and heavy-traffic industrial floors.
What is it?
A high-performance, chemically-cured, solvent-free self-levelling epoxy floor coating from Fosroc, supplied as a three-part (base, curing agent, graded aggregate) pre-weighed system that trowels and rolls out to a smooth, jointless, hard-wearing surface on concrete.
Where is it used?
Pharmaceutical and food-processing plants, electrical and power plants, traffic aisles in factories and warehouses, hospitals, laboratories, corridors, and public buildings across India where a clean, chemical-resistant, hard-wearing floor is needed.
Why use it?
It builds a seamless, crevice-free surface with no joints for dirt or bacteria to lodge in, resists sugars and most acids, cleans and sterilises easily, and offers ~60 N/mm2 compressive strength with very low abrasion wear (<0.05 mm to BS 8204) for long, low-maintenance service life.
How is it applied?
After shot-blasting/scarifying the concrete and priming with Nitoflor SLE Primer, the pre-weighed base, hardener and aggregate are mixed in sequence, spread with a steel trowel to thickness, then de-aerated with a spiked roller; light traffic at 48 hours, full cure in 7 days.
About Fosroc Nitoflor SLE
Fosroc Nitoflor SLE is a self-levelling (self-smoothing) epoxy floor coating engineered for industrial and commercial concrete floors that have to stand up to aggressive chemicals, constant cleaning and heavy foot or trolley traffic. The product was formerly marketed as “Jensolin Self Levelling Epoxy Floor Coating” and now sits within the Fosroc Nitoflor industrial-flooring family. Chemically it is a high-performance, chemically-cured, solvent-free epoxy: the binder is an epoxy resin reacted with a polyamine curing agent, pigmented with lightfast, lead-free pigments and loaded with graded mineral aggregate to give body and abrasion resistance. Because it is solvent-free and essentially 100% solids (99 +/- 1% solids content, VOC < 60 g/L), it cures without shrinkage cracking and is low-odour during installation – a real advantage in occupied hospitals, kitchens and food units. The system is supplied as a three-component, pre-weighed pack (Base, Hardener and Filler/aggregate) so that on-site batching errors are eliminated; the components are never split. Once mixed in the correct 2.8 : 1 : 6.2 weight ratio and laid, Nitoflor SLE flows and is trowelled to the required thickness, then spike-rolled to release entrained air, leaving a dense, light-reflecting, jointless film that bonds to the substrate more strongly than the concrete itself can resist (pull-off failure occurs in the concrete, not the coating). For Indian specifiers, the appeal is a single product that combines a decorative, easy-to-clean finish with genuine engineering performance – compressive strength around 60 N/mm2, abrasion wear below 0.05 mm, and broad resistance to organic and inorganic acids – all from a globally recognised Fosroc formulation that is supported locally. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor SLE as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, pairing the material with the correct Nitoflor primers and surface-preparation discipline that the system depends on.
The technical insight
Nitoflor SLE is best understood as a filled, self-smoothing epoxy screed-coating rather than a thin roller paint: the high aggregate loading (6.2 parts filler to 2.8 parts base by weight) is what delivers the ~60 N/mm2 compressive strength (BS 6319) and the very low C&CA abrasion loss of <0.05 mm (BS 8204), while the polyamine cure provides the chemical resistance to sugars and most acids. Two figures drive correct specification. First, the published theoretical coverage of about 2 sq.ft/kg at 3 mm means roughly 5.4 kg of mixed material per square metre at 3 mm – so a full pack (2 x 2.8 kg base + 2 x 1 kg hardener + 12.4 kg filler = 19.6 kg mixed) covers on the order of 3.6 sq.m at 3 mm; thinner builds cover proportionally more. Second, the substrate must develop a surface tensile strength of at least 1.5 N/mm2, be free of curing compounds and sealers, and be applied between 15 C and 40 C – because the bond strength exceeds the cohesive strength of concrete, weak or laitance-covered concrete becomes the failure plane, not the epoxy. Moisture is the other critical control: the slab must be free of rising damp, and where moisture content exceeds 30% Fosroc directs the use of two coats of Nitoflor Floorcrete Primer; new concrete should be at least 30 days old with pH 10 or lower and ~5% moisture. Pot life is only ~30 minutes (no induction time), so material must be mixed in workable batches and laid immediately, then spike-rolled once and again 10-15 minutes later as temperature dictates.
Where it is used
- Seamless, hygienic flooring for pharmaceutical manufacturing and clean-area corridors
- Food and beverage processing floors needing resistance to sugars and organic/inorganic acids
- Traffic aisles, packing halls and gangways in factories and warehouses
- Hospital corridors, laboratories and other healthcare areas requiring easy sterilisation
- Electrical and power plant rooms where a hard-wearing, easy-clean finish is specified
- Public housing common areas, public buildings and institutional corridors
Key advantages
- Seamless, crevice-free finish leaves nowhere for dirt or bacteria to harbour – genuinely hygienic
- Solvent-free and low-odour, suitable for occupied or sensitive environments such as hospitals and food units
- High mechanical performance: ~60 N/mm2 compressive strength and abrasion loss below 0.05 mm (BS 8204)
- Bond strength exceeds the cohesive strength of concrete, so failure is in the slab, not the coating
- Excellent resistance to sugars and most acids, easy to clean and sterilise with low maintenance
- Pre-weighed three-part pack removes site batching errors; near-100% solids means no shrinkage
- Light-reflecting, attractive off-white or grey finish, with RAL colours available on special request
Limitations & considerations
- Short pot life of about 30 minutes means material must be mixed in batches and laid immediately
- Demands rigorous substrate preparation (shot-blasting/scarifying, tensile strength >=1.5 N/mm2) – it is unforgiving of weak or contaminated concrete
- Moisture-sensitive during installation: needs a damp-free slab and additional primer coats above 30% moisture; new concrete must cure ~30 days
- Only limited resistance to strong solvents such as acetone, methanol and petrol, and to acetic acid 5%
- Application window of 15-40 C substrate temperature restricts hot or cold-weather work without controls
- Requires a separate Nitoflor SLE / Floorcrete primer and skilled applicators – not a DIY roller paint
- Standard colour range is limited to off-white and grey tones unless custom RAL is ordered
Selection & best practice
Treat surface preparation as the job, not a preliminary: mechanically prepare the concrete by enclosed shot-blasting or scarifying to a clean, dry, open-textured profile, confirm a surface tensile strength of at least 1.5 N/mm2, and remove all curing compounds, sealers, oil and laitance. Always test for moisture and rising damp first – if moisture exceeds 30%, apply two coats of Nitoflor Floorcrete Primer, and let new slabs cure at least 30 days (pH <=10, ~5% moisture). Prime with Nitoflor SLE Primer and allow it to dry overnight before topcoating. Keep the substrate between 15 C and 40 C, mix the pre-weighed packs in full (never split proportions) in the 2.8 : 1 : 6.2 weight ratio using a slow-speed drill and helical spinner to minimise entrained air, and lay within the 30-minute pot life. Spread with a steel trowel to thickness, spike-roll immediately to release air, then spike-roll again 10-15 minutes later. Protect the floor from foot traffic for 48 hours and from heavy traffic/full chemical service for 7 days.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SLE
Within the Fosroc Nitoflor range, Nitoflor SLE is a versatile mid-build, self-levelling epoxy aimed at hygienic, chemical-resistant industrial and commercial floors. Where heavier mechanical or thermal-shock duty is involved, consider the polyurethane and heavy-duty options such as Nitoflor Levelcrete or the Nitoflor SL3000/SL2000 self-levelling family; for thin decorative or maintenance coatings, the roller-applied Nitoflor FC130/FC150 epoxies are more economical; for static-control areas, Nitoflor SL Conductive is the dedicated choice; and Nitoflor SLE Primer and Nitoflor Floorcrete Primer are its companion priming systems. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives in the self-levelling/industrial epoxy space include Sika (Sikafloor self-levelling and PU systems), MBS, STP, and the retail-grade epoxy floor coatings from Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) – though several of those are positioned for lighter-duty or decorative work. Nitoflor SLE’s distinct value is the combination of a genuinely seamless hygienic finish, ~60 N/mm2 strength with very low abrasion, and the backing of a globally proven Fosroc formulation supplied and applied locally by Space Arc Engineering. Final selection should always be matched to the specific chemical exposure, traffic, moisture condition and budget of the project – our technical team can specify the correct Nitoflor build-up on request.
