What is it?

Nitoflor SL2000 is a four-component, flow-applied (self-smoothing) epoxy resin floor topping from Fosroc — graded aggregates bound in a pigmented epoxy binder, laid at a nominal 2 mm thickness to form a dense, seamless, light-reflective surface.

Where is it used?

Clean rooms, laboratories, pharmaceutical and food-grade kitchens, plant rooms and light-to-medium industrial production floors where hygiene, chemical resistance and easy cleaning matter.

Why use it?

It delivers a jointless, impervious, easy-to-clean floor in a wide colour range with good chemical and abrasion resistance, fast return-to-service, and 50 N/mm² compressive strength — minimising downtime and long-term maintenance.

How is it applied?

Specialist applicators prime the sound, dry substrate (Nitoprime 25 on concrete, Nitocote Primer Sealer on steel), then mix the four pre-weighed packs, pour, spread with a serrated trowel to 2 mm and de-aerate with a spiked roller.

About Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000

Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 is a self-smoothing, flow-applied epoxy resin floor topping engineered for industrial and institutional environments that demand a clean, durable and low-maintenance floor. It is built from graded aggregates bound within a pigmented epoxy resin binder, and is supplied as a four-component system — base, hardener, graded aggregate and colour pack — pre-weighed for accurate, full-pack mixing on site. Once mixed, poured and laid to its nominal 2 mm thickness, it cures to a smooth, light-reflective, seamless surface available in a range of standard colours. Because the system is jointless across each pour and impervious to liquids, it eliminates the grout lines, cracks and porous zones where dirt, bacteria and chemicals would otherwise accumulate, making it a natural fit for hygiene-critical and chemically loaded spaces. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor SL2000 across Delhi NCR and Pan-India as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, pairing the material with the correct Fosroc primers and trained installation crews so that specification, surface preparation and laying are handled as one accountable package.

The technical insight

The defining engineering trait of Nitoflor SL2000 is that it is flow-applied rather than trowel-finished as a thick screed: the resin self-levels under its own rheology to a controlled 2 mm film, which is why de-aeration with a spiked roller immediately after pouring is mandatory to release entrained air and avoid pinholing. Mechanically it reaches a compressive strength of 50 N/mm² and a flexural strength of 34 N/mm² at 7 days (tested to ASTM C579 / C580, equivalent to BS 6319), placing it firmly in the light-to-medium-duty band — strong enough for foot traffic, pedestrian-operated equipment and light vehicular movement, but not a substitute for high-build screeds where heavy impact, point loading or steel-wheeled forklift abuse is expected. The substrate moisture envelope is the single most important design constraint: concrete must be at least 28 days old with moisture content below 5% and relative humidity no greater than 75% (BS 8203), because epoxy bond failure and osmotic blistering are driven almost entirely by trapped or rising moisture rather than by the resin itself. Cure and return-to-service are temperature-dependent — at 25°C foot traffic is possible at 24 hours and vehicular at 48 hours, accelerating to 16 and 36 hours respectively at 35°C — and the working window narrows sharply in heat, with pot life dropping from 50 minutes at 25°C to just 25 minutes at 35°C, which dictates how continuous and well-staffed each pour must be.

Where it is used

  • Clean rooms and controlled environments requiring a dust-free, easily decontaminated surface
  • Laboratories and research facilities exposed to occasional chemical spillage
  • Pharmaceutical, food and beverage processing and packaging areas
  • Commercial and institutional kitchens needing hygienic, washable floors
  • Plant rooms, electrical rooms and service corridors
  • Light-to-medium industrial production and assembly floors
  • Warehousing and storage areas with pedestrian and light vehicular traffic
  • Refurbishment of existing concrete floors where a seamless coloured topping is specified

Key advantages

  • Self-smoothing flow application produces a seamless, level surface with minimal trowel marks
  • Dense and impervious — no joints or pores for dirt, moisture or bacteria to penetrate, so it is hygienic and easy to clean
  • Good chemical resistance to a wide range of industrial chemicals at ambient temperature
  • Good abrasion resistance for durable performance under foot and light vehicular traffic
  • Fast return to service — foot traffic in 24 hours and vehicular in 48 hours at 25°C, minimising downtime
  • Available in a range of standard colours to brighten and zone working areas
  • Pre-weighed four-component packs remove site batching error when mixed in full
  • Suitable for both new construction and refurbishment of sound existing concrete floors

Limitations & considerations

  • Light-to-medium duty only — not intended for heavy impact, severe point loading or aggressive steel-wheeled forklift traffic; heavier-duty Nitoflor or Ucrete-class systems are required for those
  • Must not be applied over surfaces subject to rising damp, osmosis risk, or relative humidity above 75% (BS 8203)
  • Not suitable for asphalt, weak or friable concrete, unmodified sand/cement screeds, PVC tiles/sheet, or substrates that move substantially such as steel walkways
  • Application temperature must stay between 10°C and 45°C; consult Fosroc for conditions outside this band
  • Short pot life in heat (25 minutes at 35°C) demands continuous, well-resourced placing
  • As with all epoxies, some light shade change may occur over the long term in adverse exposure (not detrimental to performance)
  • Chemical spillages must be cleaned up promptly, as evaporation can concentrate chemicals on the surface
  • Requires installation by trained specialist applicators following the Fosroc Method Statement to validate the guarantee

Selection & best practice

Lay Nitoflor SL2000 only on a sound, clean, dry substrate prepared by grit blasting, scabbling or grinding to remove laitance and contamination; new concrete should be at least 28 days old with moisture below 5% and relative humidity not above 75%. Prime concrete with Nitoprime 25 (steel with Nitocote Primer Sealer) and observe the overcoating window — 8–12 hours at 20°C, 6–8 hours at 30°C, 4–6 hours at 40°C — applying a second primer coat to porous substrates without leaving it tacky. Always mix complete pre-weighed packs (colour into base, then hardener, then aggregate); part-mixing voids the Fosroc guarantee. Pour and spread to the nominal 2 mm with a serrated trowel, then immediately de-aerate with a spiked nylon roller using a back-and-forth, 50%-overlap pass to release trapped air. Plan coverage at 7.5 m² per 15-litre pack at 2 mm and add roughly 10% for wastage and surface irregularity; carry expansion and movement joints through the new topping with a compatible sealant, and respect the pot life — schedule continuous placing so each independent floor bay is completed without cold joints.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 a self-levelling epoxy?
It is a flow-applied (self-smoothing) epoxy floor topping. The mixed resin is poured and spread with a serrated trowel to a nominal 2 mm, then de-aerated with a spiked roller to flow out to a smooth, level, seamless finish. It is not a thick high-build screed — it is a thin, light-to-medium-duty topping.
What thickness and coverage should I plan for?
Nitoflor SL2000 is laid at a nominal 2 mm thickness. One 15-litre pack (including colour pack) covers about 7.5 m² at 2 mm. Allow roughly an extra 10% for wastage and surface irregularities, plus separate primer such as Nitoprime 25 at about 5 m² per litre.
What are its strength figures?
It achieves a compressive strength of 50 N/mm² and a flexural strength of 34 N/mm² at 7 days, tested to ASTM C579 and C580 (equivalent to BS 6319). This suits clean rooms, labs, kitchens and light-to-medium industrial duty rather than heavy-impact or heavy forklift floors.
Does the floor need a primer, and which one?
Yes. Concrete and cementitious substrates must be primed with Nitoprime 25, a solvent-based epoxy primer; steel surfaces are grit-blasted to SA2½ and treated with Nitocote Primer Sealer. The topping should never be laid on an unprimed or tacky-primed surface.
How soon can the floor be used after laying?
At 25°C the floor accepts foot traffic at 24 hours and vehicular traffic at 48 hours, with full chemical resistance after 7 days. Cure is faster in heat — about 16 hours for foot and 36 hours for vehicular traffic at 35°C.
Where is Nitoflor SL2000 not suitable?
Avoid it on surfaces with rising damp, osmosis risk, or relative humidity above 75%; on asphalt, weak or friable concrete, unmodified sand/cement screeds, or PVC tiles; under heavy impact or aggressive steel-wheeled forklift traffic; and outside an application temperature of 10–45°C. For those cases consider heavier-duty Nitoflor or PU systems and consult the Fosroc office.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000

Within the Fosroc Nitoflor range, SL2000 occupies the thin-film, light-to-medium-duty tier: it is the self-smoothing 2 mm epoxy you specify when hygiene, appearance and chemical cleanliness matter more than heavy mechanical abuse. Where loading is heavier or a thicker build is wanted, Space Arc can scope higher-build Nitoflor epoxy screeds and self-levelling systems, while moisture-tolerant or thermal-shock duty points toward water-dispersed variants such as the Nitoflor SL2000 U / UB family or polyurethane screed technologies. For high-impact, thermal-cycling or wet-process floors in food and chemical plants, polyurethane-concrete systems — Fosroc’s PU offering, and competitor benchmarks such as MBS / Master Builders Solutions Ucrete and MasterTop — are the more appropriate class, and for general epoxy and PU flooring the Sika Sikafloor range is a credible alternative often evaluated alongside Nitoflor. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering’s recommendation is to match the system to the substrate, traffic and chemical exposure rather than to the brand alone: Nitoflor SL2000 is the right, cost-effective choice for clean, dry, light-to-medium-duty interiors, and we will steer you to a heavier Fosroc system where the duty demands it.
