Fosroc Nitoflor SL3000 U
Flow-applied, medium-to-heavy-duty cementitious polyurethane (PU concrete) floor topping for food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical process areas — laid seamless at 3-6 mm.
What is it?
A three-component, flow-applied cementitious polyurethane (PU concrete) floor topping that cures to a dense, seamless, matt-finish slab 3-6 mm thick.
Where is it used?
Food and beverage production, dairy and cold-chain processing, pharmaceutical clean and wash-down areas, breweries, and engineering process floors across India.
Why use it?
It combines the thermal-shock and chemical resistance of polyurethane concrete with a smooth self-smoothing finish, giving a hygienic, taint-free, easy-to-clean floor that resists abrasion and aggressive wash-down.
How is it applied?
Specialist applicators prime the prepared concrete with a scratch coat, then mix base, hardener and coloured filler and pour-and-spread the topping with a notched trowel, de-aerating with a spiked roller.
About Fosroc Nitoflor SL3000 U
Fosroc Nitoflor SL3000 U is a medium-to-heavy-duty, flow-applied cementitious polyurethane floor topping — the self-smoothing member of Fosroc’s Nitoflor SL3000 polyurethane-cement family. Chemically it is a hybrid of polyurethane resins and cementitious binders (commonly called “PU concrete” or “polyurethane cement”), supplied as a three-component system of liquid base, liquid hardener and a pre-weighed coloured aggregate filler. When the three parts are blended on site and poured, the material flows out to a smooth, dense, monolithic surface that is then de-aerated and left to cure to a matt finish. Laid at a working thickness of 3-6 mm, it builds a floor engineered to take the daily punishment of a working process plant: forklift and pallet-truck traffic, dropped tools and impact, steam and hot-water wash-down, and spillage of fats, sugars, mild acids and cleaning chemicals. The “U” designation marks it as the flow-applied (self-levelling) grade; its close sibling Nitoflor SL3000 UT is the trowel-applied grade for heavier mechanical and thermal duty, and an ESD/anti-static variant is available where static dissipation is required. In Indian terms it is the natural specification choice wherever an epoxy floor would soften, blister or de-bond under hot wash-down or thermal cycling — dairies, ice-cream and frozen-food halls, bottling lines, spice and food processing, and pharmaceutical wet areas. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor SL3000 U as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with site assessment, substrate preparation and warranted installation by trained crews.
The technical insight
The performance of Nitoflor SL3000 U comes from its polyurethane-cement matrix, which behaves very differently from a standard epoxy screed. The published mechanical data for the SL3000 family is high for a thin topping — compressive strength of around 56 MPa at 28 days (BS 6319-2), flexural strength near 17.9 MPa (BS 6319-3) and tensile strength around 6.5 MPa (BS 6319-7) — giving a tough, impact-resistant deck (8-11 Joules to ASTM D2794 across the thickness range). The decisive property, though, is thermal behaviour: a thin 3 mm topping handles a service range of roughly -5°C to +60°C, while a fuller 5-6 mm build extends that to about -10°C to +95°C, because the PU-cement has a thermal expansion coefficient close to that of the concrete substrate. This compatibility lets the floor survive hot wash-down and freezer cycling without the de-bonding that defeats rigid epoxies. The trade-off is that thin sections (a 2-3 mm topping over a 1 mm scratch coat) remain sensitive to thermal shock, so detailing — anchorage grooves cut to twice the topping thickness, correct build-up at drains, doorways and day-joints — is critical. The material is water-based and non-tainting, passing IS-8639 non-taint and BS 476-7 Class 2 flame-spread, and is HACCP-certified for food-contact environments. It is fast-setting: usable working life after mixing is only about 15-20 minutes at 30°C, which is why specialist application and disciplined batching matter more than with slower epoxy systems.
Where it is used
- Food and beverage production and packing halls
- Dairy, cheese, ice-cream and cold-storage processing floors
- Breweries, distilleries and bottling lines with constant wet/wash-down
- Pharmaceutical wet-process, granulation and clean-down areas
- Meat, poultry and seafood processing with fats and chlorinated wash
- Commercial and institutional kitchens and central catering units
- Engineering and light-industrial process floors needing chemical and impact resistance
Key advantages
- Seamless, jointless surface with no grout lines for bacteria to colonise — hygienic and easy to clean
- Water-based and non-tainting (passes IS-8639); HACCP-certified and food-grade
- Wide service-temperature window — handles steam/hot wash-down and freezer cycling far better than epoxy
- High abrasion and impact resistance for forklift, pallet-truck and dropped-load traffic
- Good resistance to fats, sugars, mild acids/alkalis and routine cleaning chemicals
- Does not support spread of flame (BS 476-7 Class 2)
- Flow-applied self-smoothing finish gives a fast, even, attractive matt surface
- Available in eight standard colours plus ESD and anti-microbial variants for zoning and special needs
Limitations & considerations
- Must be installed by trained specialist applicators — short 15-20 minute working life leaves no margin for slow batching
- Thin sections (2-3 mm) remain sensitive to thermal shock; correct build-up and detailing are essential
- Smooth finish becomes slippery when wet — broadcast aggregate or an anti-slip grade is needed for wet-process zones
- Not colour-fast; lighter and blue shades may yellow under UV/heat over time (cosmetic only, no loss of performance)
- Demanding substrate preparation — concrete must be sound (min. ~M20/25 MPa), laitance removed and a damp-proof membrane present
- Some chemicals can cause surface staining depending on dwell time and housekeeping
- Not for application below 10°C ambient/substrate or when within 3°C of dew point
Selection & best practice
Treat substrate preparation as the job, not the topping. Confirm the concrete is at least M20/25 MPa with a working damp-proof membrane, then remove laitance, sealers and curing membranes by grinding or vacuum-contained shot-blasting (never acid-etch or percussive-scabble) to expose coarse aggregate. Cut anchorage grooves to a minimum depth and width of twice the topping thickness at all edges, day-joints, up-stands, doorways and drains. Apply the Nitoflor SL3000 U scratch/primer coat and let it cure 12-48 hours at 20°C (re-abrade and re-prime if left beyond 48 hours). Work only within the ideal 15-30°C window — never below 10°C or above 34°C — and keep substrate and floor at least 3°C above dew point from priming until 48 hours after laying. Mix full packs with a forced-action rotary paddle mixer, pour and spread immediately with a notched trowel, then spike-roll within 10 minutes — and never spike-roll already-set areas. Protect the new floor with Kraft paper (not polythene) and keep it dry for at least 4 days; allow 7 days for heavy traffic and full chemical resistance.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL3000 U
Within Fosroc’s own range, Nitoflor SL3000 U is the flow-applied (self-smoothing) PU-cement grade; specify the trowel-applied Nitoflor SL3000 UT for heavier mechanical and thermal-shock duty, the SL3000 U ESD where static dissipation is required, or the epoxy-based Nitoflor SL3000 / SL3000 IM where temperature swings are modest and budget is the driver. For priming and substrate repair it pairs naturally with Fosroc’s Nitoprime and Nitomortar/Renderoc range. Against the wider Indian market, the closest competitors are polyurethane-concrete systems such as Sika’s Sikafloor PurCem range and BASF/MBCC Master Builders Solutions’ Ucrete — both well-proven, internationally specified PU-cement floors that consultants often name as alternates. Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP (Shalimar) compete more strongly in epoxy floor toppings and waterproofing than in true PU-concrete, so they are credible alternatives mainly where an epoxy specification is acceptable. Honestly, SL3000 U is not the cheapest floor on a per-square-metre basis and it demands skilled application; its value shows in food, dairy and pharma plants where thermal shock, hygiene and wash-down survival matter, and where a failed epoxy floor would cost far more in downtime than the PU-cement premium. Where those conditions do not apply, a quality epoxy screed may be the more economical specification.
