What is it?

A medium-duty, flow-applied (self-smoothing) cementitious polyurethane floor topping supplied as a three-component pre-weighed system, laid at 2-3mm to a smooth matt finish.

Where is it used?

Food and beverage production, dairy and meat processing, breweries, pharmaceutical clean process areas and general engineering process floors where wet, hygienic, chemically loaded conditions are routine.

Why use it?

It combines the thermal-shock and chemical tolerance of polyurethane-cement (PU concrete) chemistry with a smooth, seamless, easy-to-clean surface, giving a hygienic, low-maintenance floor that outlasts conventional epoxy in wet food-grade environments.

How is it applied?

Onto sound, primed concrete: the three pre-weighed components are force-mixed, poured and spread with a notched trowel, then spike-rolled to release air and self-level to a 2-3mm smooth topping.

About Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 U

Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 U is a flow-applied, medium-duty cementitious polyurethane (commonly called PU-concrete or urethane-modified cement) floor topping. It sits in Fosroc’s Nitoflor industrial flooring range as the smooth, self-smoothing 2-3mm member of the SL2000 U family, alongside textured and broadcast variants such as SL2000 UB and the coarser, heavier-duty SL3000 UT. Unlike a conventional epoxy screed, its binder is a hybrid of polyurethane resin and cement, which gives the cured floor a much wider service-temperature window, far better resistance to thermal shock from steam and hot-water wash-downs, and excellent tolerance to the organic acids, fats, oils and cleaning chemicals found in food and beverage plants. Laid at a nominal 2mm (and up to 3mm), it produces a dense, impervious, coloured, matt surface that is hygienic, seamless and easy to clean. The product is supplied as a pre-weighed three-component pack (base, hardener and graded aggregate/colour) so that on-site batching error is removed, and it is force-mixed and poured rather than hand-laid. For Indian specifiers, Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor SL2000 U as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, pairing the material with the correct Fosroc primer and the installation discipline these systems demand. One honest note carried on the Fosroc data sheet: SL2000 U is not colour-fast and may yellow under UV light and heat, more so in pale and blue shades; this is cosmetic only and does not affect in-service performance.

The technical insight

The defining feature of SL2000 U is its chemistry. Polyurethane-cement systems crosslink a polyol/isocyanate resin around a cementitious filler, so the floor expands and contracts close to the rate of the concrete substrate beneath it. That low differential movement is why these toppings survive repeated thermal cycling – hot CIP wash-downs, steam cleaning and chiller-to-ambient swings – that would craze or debond a rigid epoxy. The trade-off is a tighter application discipline: it is force-mixed with a rotary paddle and used inside its pot life, which shortens as ambient temperature rises (a real consideration on Indian sites, where summer slab temperatures push the working window down and demand smaller batches and more hands). Substrate control is the other make-or-break factor – the topping needs sound, clean concrete at least 28 days old with controlled moisture, and an appropriately profiled and primed surface, because PU-cement is unforgiving of laitance, ponding water or damp slabs. Practically, treat SL2000 U as a designed system, not just a product: substrate preparation, the matched Fosroc primer, mixing regime and pot-life management together determine whether you get the full hygienic, hard-wearing performance the chemistry can deliver.

Where it is used

  • Food and beverage production floors subject to wet processing and frequent wash-down
  • Dairy, cheese and meat/poultry processing areas with fats, lactic and organic acids
  • Breweries, distilleries, bottling and soft-drinks lines
  • Pharmaceutical and nutraceutical process and packing areas needing a hygienic, cleanable floor
  • Commercial and institutional kitchens, central kitchens and cold-store anterooms
  • General engineering and light-to-medium manufacturing process areas
  • Laboratories and clean process rooms requiring a seamless, impervious surface

Key advantages

  • Cementitious-polyurethane chemistry resists thermal shock from steam and hot-water cleaning far better than rigid epoxy
  • Smooth, dense, impervious matt finish that is hygienic and easy to clean
  • High resistance to a wide range of food-industry chemicals, organic acids, fats and oils
  • Good abrasion and impact resistance for medium-duty traffic
  • Seamless, jointless field that eliminates dirt-trapping grout lines
  • Non-tainting – suitable for food-contact environments
  • Pre-weighed three-component packs remove site batching error and give consistent results
  • Flow-applied / self-smoothing, so application is relatively fast with minimal trowel marks after spike-rolling

Limitations & considerations

  • Not colour-fast – may yellow under UV light and heat (cosmetic only, does not affect performance), more noticeable in pale and blue shades
  • Smooth finish is medium-duty; for heavy traffic, aggressive impact or where slip resistance under wet/greasy conditions is critical, a thicker textured screed (e.g. SL3000 UT or a broadcast UB/UF grade) is more appropriate
  • Pot life is short and shortens further at high ambient temperatures, demanding experienced applicators and disciplined batching – a real factor on hot Indian sites
  • Requires sound, clean, dry, correctly aged (28-day) and primed concrete; not for damp slabs, rising damp, weak/friable concrete, asphalt or unmodified sand-cement screeds
  • Should not be applied outside the manufacturer’s temperature limits and is intended for interior process floors
  • Must be installed by trained applicators following the Fosroc method statement to validate performance and warranty

Selection & best practice

Specify SL2000 U as a complete system, not a standalone coat. Confirm the slab is at least 28 days old, structurally sound and within Fosroc’s moisture limit (test for rising damp; install a damp-proof membrane if in doubt). Mechanically prepare the surface – shot-blast or grind off laitance to a suitable profile – then prime with the Fosroc-recommended primer and over-coat within the stated window before it goes tacky. Force-mix the full pre-weighed pack (never part-mix), keep batches small in hot weather to stay inside pot life, pour, spread to 2-3mm with a notched trowel and spike-roll promptly to release air. Carry all existing movement/expansion joints through the topping and detail coving and falls to drains where wash-down is frequent. Allow the full cure schedule before traffic and chemical exposure, and protect newly laid areas from water and dust during cure.

Industry use cases

Food & Beverage

Wet processing halls, bottling and packing lines where the floor must shrug off hot wash-downs, food acids and constant moisture while staying hygienic and easy to sanitise.

Dairy & Meat Processing

Milk, cheese, meat and poultry areas exposed to lactic/organic acids, fats and frequent steam cleaning – the PU-cement chemistry resists both the chemicals and the thermal cycling.

Pharmaceutical & Nutraceutical

Process and packing rooms needing a seamless, impervious, non-tainting floor that supports cleanroom-grade housekeeping and repeated disinfection.

Commercial & Institutional Kitchens

Hotel, hospital and central kitchens where grease, spillage and hot water are routine and a jointless, cleanable surface reduces slip and hygiene risk.

General Engineering & Light Manufacturing

Medium-duty process and assembly floors that need durable abrasion and impact resistance with a smooth, dust-free, easily maintained surface.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 U an epoxy floor?
No. It is a cementitious polyurethane (PU-concrete) topping, not an epoxy. The polyurethane-cement binder gives it a wider service-temperature range and much better resistance to thermal shock and food-industry chemicals than a conventional epoxy screed, which is exactly why it is favoured for wet, hot wash-down food and dairy floors. Fosroc’s epoxy SL2000 and the epoxy-polyurethane EPU2000 are different products in the same range.
What thickness is Nitoflor SL2000 U applied at?
It is a flow-applied topping laid at a nominal 2mm, and up to 3mm, to produce a smooth matt finish. For heavier traffic, more aggressive impact or coarser slip-resistant textures, Fosroc’s thicker SL3000 UT screed (typically 3-6mm) or a broadcast UB/UF grade is the better choice.
Which surfaces and conditions suit it – and which don’t?
It needs sound, clean, dry concrete at least 28 days old, correctly profiled and primed. It is not suitable for damp slabs, surfaces with rising damp, weak or friable concrete, asphalt, unmodified sand-cement screeds or substrates likely to move substantially. A moisture check, and a damp-proof membrane where rising damp is possible, is essential before application.
Why does the data sheet say it may yellow?
Like most polyurethane-cement toppings, SL2000 U is not colour-fast and can yellow under UV light and heat, more noticeably in pale and blue shades. This is purely cosmetic and does not reduce the floor’s mechanical or chemical performance. Where appearance is critical, discuss colour selection and lighting with us at the specification stage.
Can Space Arc Engineering supply and install it across India?
Yes. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and pan-India. We supply genuine Nitoflor SL2000 U with the matched Fosroc primer, advise on substrate preparation and detailing, and provide trained application crews so the system is laid to the Fosroc method statement and delivers its full warranted performance.
How should I confirm exact strength and cure figures for my specification?
Mechanical values (compressive, flexural, abrasion), pot life and the full cure schedule shift slightly between regional editions and product revisions, so they should always be taken from the current local Fosroc TDS for your batch and territory. Space Arc Engineering will share the latest India technical data sheet and help you write a compliant flooring specification for your project.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL2000 U

Within the Fosroc Nitoflor range, SL2000 U is the smooth, self-smoothing 2-3mm member of the PU-cement family. Step up to Nitoflor SL3000 UT (a coarser 3-6mm screed) for heavy-duty traffic and aggressive thermal shock, or to broadcast/textured grades such as SL2000 UB / UF where wet slip resistance is the priority; the epoxy-based Nitoflor SL2000 and the epoxy-polyurethane Nitoflor EPU2000 suit drier, less thermally demanding areas. It is normally installed over a Fosroc Nitoprime / Nitocote primer and complemented by Fosroc joint sealants and coving. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives in the polyurethane-cement and resin-flooring space include Sika (Sikafloor PurCem range), Master Builders Solutions (Ucrete), Dr. Fixit / Pidilite resin flooring systems and STP Limited – all viable depending on duty, budget and local support. Space Arc Engineering’s value is matching the right Fosroc system to the actual process conditions and backing it with authorised supply and trained application across Delhi NCR and pan-India, rather than defaulting to a single product.
